It didn't mention that it was during the night. It could have been something other than a star. Lightning, perhaps? It also mentioned that it was "strange", as in it didn't happen often. Maybe Logistics/Trade to capitalize on the fear and get merchants to up prices or something? Or *keep* the merchants from doing so? *shrug*

Adair, the Young Lord of Elath, has been assassinated.

What?

There goes our :argh:

He was shot with a crossbow while playing on the grounds of his grandfather's estate.

How did this happen? Where were the guards?

This is not the first time such events have happened within the realm of Ishtar.

(The Earl of Ishtar's first wife and oldest daughter also died under mysterious circumstances.)

(Then his other daughter married young and died giving birth to Adair. With Adair dead, the only family he has left is his second wife and their son Connor, who's fifteen.)

Important decisions ahead! Don't vote for next week's classes!

I see I was wrong about never finding out whether Adair's grandfather was his paternal or maternal grandfather! Someone's definitely to blame: let's blame the Earl of Ishtar.

Well, poo poo. Though, it makes me wonder if we would've been targeted for assassination if we'd have married the kid.

Anyway. The failed foreign intelligence check makes me suspect that there is a (correct) answer we don't have access to, so let's not blame the Earl just now. What does he stand to gain from eliminating his own lineage anyway? If anything, his second wife is suspicious as hell and could have a motive to put her own son on the throne.

Even after the rest of his family dies, he still doesn't get more guards? Blame him.

Yes, always train the thing that just failed so we can never succeed at anything. A brilliant plan.

I hope this teaches us a lesson though: anything at 50 or below sucks and will never help us succeed at anything. Ergo, we completely wasted our time on any skill that we don't max out. Rather than spreading our points around mindlessly like a headless chicken, we should choose a category and max it out before moving on to the next. We don't need lots of mediocre skills, we need a few good skills.

Oh, and Blame the Earl. What could possibly go wrong?

I can think of at least four events after this one where 50 in a skill is sufficient, and I can only think of a few events where 90 or 100 in a skill is needed. I know for certain that I could play exactly as the thread has so far and survive to be crowned, and only one of the skills we've trained and abandoned so far would be totally useless to me in doing so.

I bet blaming the Earl could have some mileage if we had better intel on him. As it is, though....

On the one hand, the earl is suspicious, on the other hand, we failed an intel check and probably don't know the full story, or are ignorant of who else is suspicious.

I'm gonna go with Blame him, and hope he isn't innocent and immediately executed.

So that's the Earl's first wife, oldest daughter, and now Adair all dead under suspicious circumstances. Once is a freak occurrence, twice is a coincidence, but three times? If we let this fly it's as good as changing our outfit to a shirt that says "SUCKER." Hold the Earl accountable.

The way succession works in this kingdom, I'd say the son of the second wife has the most to gain from this.
