It is weird when you think if it. We should have an innate fear of big mammals that consider us low-grade prey, like we do snakes, crocodiles, spiders etc. Would it be somehow linked to how useful we found wolves?

I didn't see this posted in the last few pages, so I thought I'd share it with all of you. On the show Doctor Who, the last actor to formally play the eponymous Doctor, Matt Smith, was replaced by actor Peter Capaldi. Many people were slightly upset over the change, including a little autistic girl, whom Capaldi takes time out of his day to help reassure her.

I always played as red because he had a bigger package.
Don't know why I haven't posted these already. A couple of years ago, I visited a wildlife rescue center down in Florida and got to "help out" some.

This little girl was unreleasable, and it's pretty obvious why. She came up to me and insisted that I pick her up.

Then it was deer time. Lots and lots of deer, but this one was particularly hungry.

And one of the few "do not touches" that I got to see, as if I needed the warning!

For the first time in my life, I'm interested in watching Dr. Who. Peter Capaldi owns.

(Here's hoping the new Doctor swears profusely at everyone)

What a great guy. It wasn't much to him but that tiny bit of kindness probably helped that girl in a lot of ways. We all know that autistic kids usually have a difficult time adapting to change and it's marvelous to see such a big celebrity have that kind of patience.

Hope this counts.

I have never really been in contact with my biological fathers side of the family, and not spoken to him since i was maybe 10 - over 20 years ago.

But last christmas, an aunt managed to get my number and notified me that grandma was very ill and going through cancer treatment. They were pulling family from all over the world for a reunion in an attempt to celebrate grandmas life and so she can see all the grand babies and great great grand babies all together for one day in case the worst happened.

No matter what, I was going. I organised a deal with my aunt to not tell anyone I was coming (most of the family hadn't seen me for 15 years or so).

I arrive Christmas day and walk into the house, another aunt looked at me puzzled and asked if she could help me, thinking I was some random guest or catering help. She feinted on the stairs when she deciphered my face through my beard.

Then the aunt who knew I was coming announced I was here and to come in from the back yard. Grandma straight up walked past me to look at a computer expecting me to be on skype. After realising I was standing right there, she wouldn't let go of my arm for the whole day.

It was awesome seeing the side of my family that I ever really knew, and also made peace with my dad, and was introduced to a 20 yo half brother. poo poo we are exactly the same person.

My 4 year old cousin was awestruck and every night I was there, she wouldn't go to bed unless I read her a story. The day I left she cried and cried as her new best friend was leaving. The little darling melted hearts.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. I was pretty down in the dumps after loosing my job, but got a message saying that grandma has beaten cancer and is strong as an ox.

There's pretty strong evidence that our brains are wired to react to the shape of snakes and spiders before we actually recognize what they are. Kinda like reflexively snatching your hand from a flame but for poisonous things.
