I don't care what you say about this post, but if anyone steps on my bunion, I'll kill them!
I understand that the following is like, basically the stupidest possible question with regards to podcasting. The type of thing you're supposed to work out kind of quick. But, like many things in my life, that's a fundamental aspect of existence I'm lacking in so here goes:

First off, here's my podcast. A couple of years ago I switched over from Blogspot to a self-hosted Wordpress combined with Libsyn for file-hosting. There's just one problem: despite approaching 8 years of podcasting (did I just write that?), the .XML file that I point to Feedburner for my RSS still isn't automatically generated. See, Blogspot never had the tools to handle embedded audio files and iTunes formatting and all that, so when I started the show I had to make the goddamned thing semi-manually using a piece of crap program called Tristana Writer that does stupid things like add new items to the bottom of the feed rather than the top and clone everything in the <Image> tags for every new item I add.

Meaning my process TO THIS DAY for posting new episodes is "upload MP3 file to hosting, then manually paste the link, content type, and length into my XML file opened within Tristana Writer, then paste the episode title from the blog along with the link to the blog and a shortened writeup that always ends with the same sentence requesting people check the website." Then I save the .xml...and open it in a text editor so I can move my just-created <Item> from the bottom of the file to near the top, deleting everything within the extraneously added <Image> tags along the way. Then I remove the unnecessarily added carriage returns, save it, and then manually FTP it to my hosting. Then I have to manually ping Feedburner, which is pointed to that XML. THEN my episode's posted.

This is of course, some TOTAL bullshit. Everybody civilized just makes a blog post and they're done. My problem is the migration aspect. I've got 186 items in my feed right now. Since I'm running my own Wordpress install (that I frequently get Resource Use Exceeded errors when making new posts despite/because of my caching plugin is a separate concern), I do use the Blubrry Powerpress plugin already just so I can have a built-in Flash player on the site. However, I used to use the TSG Podcasting plugin until they took forever to add support for the latest Wordpress. Powerpress seems compatible enough with the old TSG formatting to be able to recognize "this is the MP3 object associated with this post" but unless I manually edit the post the Flash player/MP3 object will be parsed twice per post as seen here. This is because TSG required a [Podcast] tag inserted into posts for the player to display. Powerpress does not.

So does my "I forgot everything I learned in college about SQL and never learned anything about Apache" rear end have to manually edit nearly 200 posts to not only remove extraneous tags but also add post summaries in order to get a functional auto-generated XML file? Or is there some way that I can take my existing XML and have Wordpress/Powerpress append to it from this point on when I make new posts?

I'm going to start a new podcast that consists of the best of the week of my show, as of length is 2 hours good? or should I try to just get the best content of the week and don't think of length? Out of the amount of content I produce, which is 10 hours, I don't want to miss any good bits.

So my friends and I have thought that a podcast from a fake, lovely radio station set in some fictional world would be a good idea. So we jumped in and did it. This is the first episode. For 4 hours of work, I'm happy with this, but I'd like to see what you all think. We should be popping out another episode some time this week, we'll see.

Think of us as your Giant Bomb alternative.

We've been putting a lot of love and hard work into our podcast, and at first glance it comes of as "another one of those gaming podcasts".

From what I've gathered from the superfluos amount out there, is that most of them are unlistenable due to poor audio quality, a poor cast of personalities , and generally unentertaining content. We've got a cast of great outgoing and talented people, who are all in their 20s-30s that have a lot to offer, including a lot of off the cuff comedy and professional levels of mixing and graphic nuance. Sure it's about games, but really, we just want to have some fun, and make you enjoy the time you listen in. Give us a try guys, we think we deserve it.

~Bad Opinions~

Hey guys, me and a buddy decided to try podcasting as something fun to do. So we made We Done That Game where we talk about games on an individual level. Every episode will be about a single game instead of talking about the industry or new releases and such. I'd really like it if you'd listen to our first raw episode about Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow and give me some feedback. I'd mostly like to know if there is any interest in this so I don't waste a lot of time on something nobody will listen to. BTW, I'm Wade and my friend, Rob, isn't a goon.

Here's episode one.

Metroid sighting huh? Well, I did just pour this coffee...it will still be there tomorrow.
I've been podcasting for close to 3 years now, and never realized that there was an SA thread on podcasting. Quite a few of them actually.

I'm currently doing three podcasts, one of which is just for work, so it's not really of interest.

The main one I do is in support of our local university movie theater the IU Cinema. It's called A Place For Film - The IU Cinema Podcast We cover all of the events at the Cinema, and a lot of film fests around the country. We also get some pretty good quality guests through the Cinema as well like Whit Stillman, Paul Schrader and John Sayles among others. Being at a university we also have access to a lot of film scholars that really know their poo poo.

iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/place-for-film-iu-cinema-podcast/id397597346?mt=2
Video version: http://www.youtube.com/iucinemapodcast

The other one I just started with the same cohost for the Cinema podcast is called Evolution Of Gaming. Jason and I realized that we both have a bunch of old consoles lying around, so instead of throwing them away, we decided to make a podcast out of it. We sit down with the old consoles and play games on them, recording the gameplay and talking about our memories of the game. Big nostalgia trip.

Evolution of Gaming YouTube Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMjpE-41RhTTHQ5I0wMwcp5IJxOpi9dKn

I'm doing a lot of video work with my podcasts right now, so if anyone is thinking about going that way and wants some tips, I'm happy to help.

In the show the four of us talk about whatever is on our minds for an hour one week during round table discussion, then the following week is our "group solitaire" where we each get roughly ten minutes to do whatever. It's a little disjointed at times but we always have fun.

When in doubt, err on the side of Awesome!

This week UnderDiscussion is podcasting every day from The Best Four Days in Gaming! We kicked off everything Monday with our Tips and Advice for the con.

Today we posted the annual GenCon Car-Cast. Fan favorite, fan demanded, always fun. This year we embark extra early on the magical quest to the Best Four Days of Gaming. This year the Car-cast includes an interview with Dave Hornak about Scotty’s Brewhouse and the special prep that goes into planning for an event like GenCon! We talk about his history of gaming, the special menus that Scotty’s always prepares for GenCon, and the new Dogslicer ale!

This episode is a little noisy and a really clippy, but in our defense we did record it in a moving car with equipment we haven’t used in eight months. The rest of the will sound a lot better than this, and our regular episodes blow these away in terms of audio quality.

At the end of last year I started this podcast:

http://podcast.ndsgame.co.kr/detl_i...asts&idx=321174
http://www.spinxpress.com/Breshvic

It began with some friends of mine, based on a fake comic book superhero group called The Revengerists, who are all bad at their jobs. All of this is based on a wiki we are still writing.
http://revengeristsconsortium.wikia.com/wiki/The_Revengerists_Consortium_of_Stuff_Wiki

The format varies per episode, but typically we talk about weird news items in character, do some sort of radio-play/story reading or skit, discuss Revengerists Wiki articles, and other small segments. It's mostly improv with some scripted things thrown in there.

The first couple of episodes kind of drag because we didn't have a handle on the format, but it gets better after that. My favorite episodes so far are Fightstar!, Good At Their Jobs, Save Them Mall, and The Mighty Xorxorx.

There's three of us who always show up, but we have varying amounts of guests on the show with a couple of recurring characters. As a bonus, if you want to join our wiki and contribute, you can.

Hosts:

Dr Tasty

Southside Santa
http://revengeristsconsortium.wikia.com/wiki/Southside_Santa

The sound quality also varies depending on the episode, but most of us are spread throughout the country and not all of us have decent equipment and are using skype. Breshvic does a good job making it listen-able, but sometimes we have to work with what we've got.

In the next few days I'm going to submit an episode of UnderDiscussion for the 2014 Ennies and I'm trying to decide which episode to send in. I wanted to get everybody's opinions on the possible choices.

IP and D&D
Where Kevin and I talk about what we'd do if we were in charge of the D&D brand.
This is one of our most popular episodes this year but it's more about marketing D&D than it is about playing the game.

Gen Con: Hans Cummings Interview & Day 1 or Gen Con: Interview with Jason Hardy and Tracy Barnett
Gen Con episodes for Thursday and Friday
I think we did a great job with our Gen Con episodes this year but we're using the mobile equipment so frankly the audio sucks compared to a regular episode.

Adding Horror to the Game
We talk about adding horror to your game.
I think it's a great discussion, it's really RPG centric, and it's not that long, but I'm not sure it's as good as one of the others.

Is anyone getting weird errors or slow updates in regards to the iTunes podcast app? Several listeners of RPPR Actual Play have reported stuff like:

"Is anyone else having issues with the iTunes Podcasts app and RPPR Actual Plays. The app isn't updating automatically anymore for RPPR Actual Plays. When I go and manually add the newest podcast from the store and it has the right date on it, but it goes to the bottom of the list. It's weird though, it just started doing this with one of the Nights Black Agents episodes and does it intermittently since. It just did again with the Bayou Beatdown Base Raiders episode. Anyone else having this problem
Or know of a fix. No other podcasts are doing it, and the main RPPR podcast isn't doing it.

Oh yeah one more thing, the episodes have the right date on them in the Podcasts store, but once they are downloaded they have a date of December 31st, 2000 on them.

I think it's pretty early in the podcast's life to get the pulse on it, but your production values are very good and the stories will get better as time goes on. I almost feel like I'm listening to an NPR broadcast with the narration, sounds and then cut to the quoted person telling the story in their words, but it's about weed and sex and funny poo poo that happens to people. It's an interesting concept and I'd say keep rolling with it for a while and see where it leads.

(RSS) is another show about people discussing weird news stories, but I think we're much funnier than all the others. We're on Episode 40 now and haven't missed a week since we started back in May and I think it really just gets better and better.

This Week In The Apocalypse (RSS) is a bi-weekly show that normally consists of a panel of four to seven people debating how humanity would far in various apocalyptic scenarios. Currently on Episode 19, the first two episodes were before we really found our footing and are a bit of a clusterfuck, but the third episode and most of the subsequent ones are a lot of fun. We even deviate a little and just go for episodes debating which fictional character would win in a fight. It's got more of a focus, I guess, than SW and is nearing the end of its run.

If any of you guys ever listen, leave a comment at the website or PM me with some criticism or just to say what you hated/liked about it.

So I posted this way back in 2011, which is crazy. I figure I can repost, though. In the interim, Stuff Weekly has continued, TWITA reached its end (there were no more Apocali), we had a really awful failed show called Terrible Awful Show (self-fulfilling prophecy), and added a video podcast. We try to keep all our shows around an hour and they normally hover around that time period so they're not too much of a time drain.

Stuff Weekly
(Itunes)
(RSS)
Stuff Weekly is still the same show it was when I added it to the Gooncasts wiki, except then we were fast approaching Episode 50 - now we're fast approaching Episode 200. That's pretty insane. Myself and three co-hosts talk about horrifying, hilarious, heartwarming, and other H-adjectives news stories from around the world (but more often than not, from Florida)!

All the players must choose games they've never played before! Will you play the shittiest game in history? I have. A lot. Occasionally we have special guests (our most popular one was Josh and Jaxxy from the Jaxamoto Youtube channel) and some of our themes are kinda crazy. I highly recommend the Nick Arcade Challenge Weeks, where we put our skills to the test against bite-sized challenges the other hosts came up with. It's a lot of fun if you like video games and funny people who are, mostly, bad at them.

I do a monthly music podcast about Surf music. I play all kinds of new and old surf music with a bit on banter in between music sets. The show is The Surfphony of Derstruction 2000.

Genre: Surf
Schedule: Once a month on a full moon
Links

Facebook | Blog | Soundcloud | Mixcloud

As the show host, I am Derk Brigante, an over-the-top goofball who has watched too much pro wrestling, basically. The best way to sum up the show is Fast 'n' Loud Surf music! Currently, the Surfphony of Derstruction is going through quite a story arc where Derk gets possessed, brings about the end of the world and ends up in the nuclear apocalypse, traveling through the wasteland in search of a time machine. Catch the latest episode right here.

I've played a bit with alternate universes within the Surfphony of Derstruction as showcased in the episode "WOO Dunnit?" featuring Derk's film noir alternative, Derk Tracy.

The upcoming episode is a part of the current storyline in a way as Derk is lost in time and space and so "Hollywood" is taking over the Surfphony and a different Derk Brigante from another alternative universe is taking the reins.

I always push myself to try new things and really push my limits, like the background soundscapes and storyline of WOO Dunnit to the multi-episode story arc starting the show is currently going through. In the latest episode, I tried to create a car chase in the 2nd act. For the upcoming episode, Souled Out, I'll be releasing a promo video in conjuction with the episode!

I also made a pinball podcast on the side, Bumper City, Down at The Arcade. It's a one-off podcast for my pinball blog, Bright Lights Bumper City.

To sum it up, it's an audio imagining of a day down at the arcade. I created soundscapes that evoke the sounds of hanging out at and arcade for a whole day, starting when the arcade is really busy until closing time. Along with the pinball soundscapes, I mixed in some music as well that would fit right in to an arcade. Lots of new wave, synthpop and space disko ear candy. The podcast can be found here. Down at The Arcade also ties in to The Surfphony of Derstruction as the arcade in the podcast, that being Bumper City, is the very same one that Derk hunts down in the Surfphony 2000 AD.

I'd love some feedback for my show, now two weeks in. While I am by no means on the level of The Moth or This American Life, it's in the storytelling genre and a whole hell of a lot of work goes into it.

How does the emphasis on audio production feel? Too much? Are the stories the right length? Are they compelling?

A solid effort with a Radiolab-sans-Krulwich feel. Some of the audio cues are louder than they should be and a couple times drown out the speaker. Sometimes they seem to be there just for the sake of being there or can sound really fake (especially the crowd noises).

Also, consider letting the subject of the interview bring the emotion to the story and let them tell how they're feeling rather than making it the narrator's responsibility.

Length is o-k, maybe a little long to hear from just the one person recounting experiences that aren't terribly notable or uncommon. Consider adding in a second person (or more) to talk about that story to give further context and insight. I'd rather hear from one of the woman's parents about their thoughts on her self-imposed sterilization and would be less inclined to think of the virginity story as anything but a really lame Penthouse letter if I could hear from someone else that was there.

I dunno how much interest there is for a podcast like this, but I've recently started doing a Boards of Canada themed podcast, creatively titled "The BoCcast."

If anyone shares my love for Boards of Canada, check it out. I do in-depth analysis of their music, and there is SO MUCH depth, such density of meaning. I just recently finished my track-by-track runthrough of Tomorrow's Harvest. So far I've only got 3 episodes up, but I've been really happy with them, and they've been fairly well-received. The next episode will probably be some more general analysis of a recurring theme in their music (possibly religion or the number 70) while I get some research done on The Campfire Headphase.
