Yeah but you were aware of your situation and knew how to fix it, you were just having a little trouble getting there (along with getting somewhat sidetracked by basil). You weren't looking at your monthly expenses and seeing that your wife bought a $50 hanger and $400 worth of juice and asking the thread "Where is all our money going I just don't understand???". I love those kind of threads. The ones where the OP has absolutely no self-awareness or is so far in denial they really don't have any idea what's going on in their own life.

I know Reddit is cheating but this popped up in PYF and uh :stare:

quote:

27 years old : Still living with parents.
Went to 2 "for profit" colleges getting a useless associates and a 3D art bachelors.
Moved out of state for 2nd college, and lived entirely off of loans for 3ish years.
Over those 3-5 years, the gaming / film industry has started seeing corruption in outsourcing majority of their jobs across seas. Rendering me with a useless degree until my skills are at godsend level or I get really lucky while networking. (Don't ask to see my portfolio, I'm going to get enough poo poo from my bad financial decisions to get shat on more on my work)
It's been roughly 2 years since I graduated, spending about 10 months unemployed and looking for work.
I work at a job that's "Somewhat" related to my field making around $34,000/year. I also do part time 3rd shift at a job at a hospital making about $12 an hour.

My Debt
As you can see, a majority of these loans are private.
As you can see, it is literally impossible for me to make even reach a minimum payment.
I'm not in default status, but at one point I have received a threat letter for almost being set in default. My parents once again came and saved the day and made a generous donation to them.

My Bills
About $330 / month on my leased car
About $100 / month on car insurance

I currently have no health insurance, I NEED to get it by march though due to the "affordable" health care act.
About $50 / month on phone
About $150 for gas & random expenses
The rest of what I got is split evenly among Sallie Mae and Wells Fargo, maybe $500 each a month?
I'm obviously not reaching the minimum payments required by them, but I'm literally clearing out my bank account monthly to these companies in good faith to show that I'm at least making an attempt.

I was drinking with a buddy a couple of nights ago and he said his girlfriend spent $30,000 on a photography degree from an Arts & Design University, and it was all theory. I jokingly asked if they even taught her how to put the SD Card in the camera or showed her where to put the lights, and he literally said no.

Now she has $30,000 in student loans and is working at a call centre. So, given the latter, things actually could be worse, as she's making sales commission there and probably a bit above minimum wage.

I posted a while ago about my roommate. He's got about 20k in credit card debt, 30k in student loans, and a 20k car loan. He is only making minimum payments on all of his current obligations.

He recently heard about some state program that will give veterans 10k towards a house.

So now, for the last month or so, he's been looking at houses and got pre approved for a 120k loan and just gets mad when I try to tell him it's a bad idea. Highlights include him saying he doesn't want to wait because interest rates will probably be going up soon and could mean him paying another 15k over the lifetime of the loan (disregarding that he probably pays at least 3k a year in credit card interest) and talking about putting solar panels on the house he doesn't have yet and financing that with yet another loan because our state gives tax incentives for solar panels.

Basically most banks will treat purposely bouncing checks as theft. I honestly don't know how she has gotten away with it. Unless she is a genius at timing her check floats - its nearly impossible to pull off.

Yep. Financial morons everywhere buy trucks and justify it with things like "I'll need something to tow the boat I haven't purchased yet" or "it'll be great when I have to move some big stuff."

I had a former coworker making 50k who used the latter justification for buying a brand new 45k Ford F-250. He uses it to move stuff maybe 2-3 times a year. I told him he could keep his paid off 2001 Accord and spend $19 to rent a truck from Home Depot when needed. His response was "THAT'S A RIPOFF"

Because you are writing an IOU instead of giving real money. It's rather simple. You are effectively taking out an interest free loan for a few days until the check clears.
