I actually mentioned Cloak in mine, but I agree. In terms of day-to-day usefulness, invisibility really has few non-nefarious purposes.

Oh we're talking about non nefarious purposes... Cause I'd just rob banks and steal poo poo erryday if I had invisibility. I guess that means I'm a terrible person if noone's watching?

The issue is you can have invisibility from organic sight or from robo-sight so if you're robbing banks they've still got video of you doing it and if you're camera invisible the guards just shoot you dead.

Plus, you know, the floating pile of cash will probably tip them off. And then there's all that hi-tech tagging stuff banks do to their money, which would probably doom you anyway.

In Deus Ex you can hack ATMs with impunity because you're literally the second person in the world with nano-augs and both of you are in law enforcement, so the defences don't exist yet. It makes less sense in the other two games, but in both cases you can assume that whatever version of the hacking augs you've got is cutting edge and still just ahead of the technology available to defend against it. In a month or two Adam and Alex are back to earning their money the hard way.

I want to be able to down a bottle of booze instantly, get totally hammered, then sober up again in under a minute. Also chain smoke an entire pack of fags in a single breathe. And immediately interact with anything within reasonable visual distance, or put it into my pockets or backpack, even when I've got my hands full. Y'know how you can be carrying an important large steel crate home but really fancy a quick smoke and a tipple? Not a problem for me, pal.

I'd probs just take eye augs and maybe an arm aug, make some crazy like pip-boy poo poo for a forearm like a lovely sci-fi movie. Maybe an ear aug and inner mouth aug, to add phone functionality to the wrist-boy. Problem with body augs is that they would make you unlovable to most people. You would be considered an outcast freak of nature.

How do skills work in regards to lore? I'm not sure how well the game explains it but I believe its somthing like installing software in your head, the nanobots free up space in JC's brain and climatises JC's mind in the form of experience for doing various tasks. So when he picks what skills to excell in he doesn't have any unpleasant mental issues develop as a result. If this is indeed the case, then for all we know that hacking software is powered with ram and processing from his own brain. Incidentally, if what I posted is actually canon not just a load of nonsense I made up, a nanotech powered agent could theoreticaly master every skill required of him whithin a very short time span.

Or maybe he hacks with his Infolink. Personally, I just assume Skills are JC's proficiency with using his augs in those areas. He CAN use any gun right out of the gate, but having his body modified by nanoaugmentation means his training doesn't really apply when he has a HUD and sunglasses at night and his body being constantly changed by the nanobots. So upgrading Swimming is just JC coping with having bits of him float, bits of him sink, due to his augs.

In the past, Adam Jensen was able to reply to messages via InfoLink, simply by talking aloud. This is a skill rendered ineffectual to the N series units, but presumably it was less of a problem with him not looking like a jerk muttering to himself in a gravelly voice.

There's no muttering involved, it's done by subvocalising. That's why you can chat with Pritchard or Sarif while nearby enemies remain oblivious.

That's still ignoring the greatest contribution Jensen ever made to the world of augmentation - the nano impale beard.

Veyrall posted:Since, as long as you don't have to pick anything up, the spy drone would act like Invisibility anyway. What does Enhanced Vision do? In IW, it let you see the outlines of people through walls, which was...not terribly useful, since listening could do basically the same thing. Here's the breakdown for the eye augmentations: Vision Enhancement: TECH ONE: Nightvision. TECH TWO: Infravision. TECH THREE: Close range sonar imaging. TECH FOUR: Long range sonar imaging. Energy Rate: 40 Units/Minute Targeting: TECH ONE: Slight increase in accuracy and general target information. // Provides the name of the target, the distance to the target, and a description of its status [e.g. medium health]. TECH TWO: Additional increase in accuracy and more target information. // Provides area specific health information, [e.g. Head 100%, Torso 75% etc.]. TECH THREE: Additional increase in accuracy and specific target information. //Displays the target's weapon. TECH FOUR: Additional increase in accuracy and telescopic vision. // Provides a close-up, picture-in-picture display of the target. Energy Rate: 40 Units/Minute Also, targeting provides a general-purpose accuracy boost with all weapons (per level?)

Yeah, both of the air ports are in Queens, one far to the north and one far to the east of JC. Queens kinda hugs all around brooklyn. Also NYC had an earthquake in the last 3-4 years during the summer. 2012 i think? Set off all the alarms in hundreds of buildings in midtown.

Do you really have to get every single bit of dialogue from every single minor character? It's tedious as gently caress, and since it's in the middle of all the relevant things there's no way to just skip past it. I can understand the value of hearing what all named, plot-relevant characters have to say, but hearing that UNATCO trooper #427 has things under control seems kind of pointless.

Thing is, when you're actually playing the game, the NPC banter is a huge part of setting the, well, setting. Even if you can't be bothered to read the books and look at pictures, they will drag you into the world of Deus Ex - kicking and screaming if that's what it takes. I believe this level of immersion is one of the main reasons why the game is still so good and perfectly playable nowadays, despite the aged graphics and non-intuitive mechanics.
