I am a huge fan of Hatebreed but for some reason that artical rub's me up the wrong way, I can't quite put my finger on why.... Anyone who think's Hatebreed are a toughguy band should probably watch them live, they really are the goofiest guy's and Jasta is always having such a great time he get's this goofy grin on his face it's hilarious comparing the band goofing around on-stage to the tough guy showdown's happening in the pit. I've said it before but Hatebreed make hardcore song's that wouldn't sound out of place on a Rocky soundtrack.

My new jams are streaming on CVLT Nation: https://soundcloud.com/cvltnation/sets/pornography-hex-b-w-golden Not strictly punk/hardcore/emo, but it's got the candy coatings of hardcore and screamo in a noise rock/doom center. And there's blastbeats and fake breakdowns and it's not really metal.

I'm ambivalent on Jerome's Dream and dislike Saetia but then again I'm not going through the perpetual midlife crisis everybody who writes articles about hardcore music apparently is, so those opinions don't really shape my lifestyle very much.

Re: Tough guy hardcore, I think the prevalent themes of overcoming struggles etc can be cool for people trying to get their poo poo together in life but I really don't see the connection to masculinity except in a bodybuilder=muscles=man type of way which doesnt make a lot of sense imo. Seems a bit far-fetched to blame screamo kids for weakening the nations youth or whatever.

The best recommendation I can think of if you dig NoMeansNo is Wire, who have some similar elements (kinda proggy, jazz influence, weird lyrics, capable of writing poppier stuff from time to time).

I've been keeping an eye out in this thread for anybody talking about The Hotelier's album, "Home, Like Noplace Is There", which was released on February 25th. These guys used to be called The Hotel Year and put out an album called "It Never Goes Out" in 2011. In my opinion, "Home" is the better of the two - pretty solid from beginning to end with no obvious weak points. "Among the Wildflowers" and, in particular, "Life in Drag" swerve into more hardcore territory, musically, but the rest of the album is pretty straight up emo/pop-punk that scratches an itch I didn't know I had. Soaring vocals and solid instrumentation all around! One of my favorite releases of 2014 so far. Anybody else listening to this?
