I can respect that--while staying a minimum safe distance away and making it a point never to make eye contact. edit: oh, wait, it was another one who made the divine illness connection. Welp. This guy still gets special nutty points for the raging grandpa-shaking-his-cane routine about "this president was going to CHANGE THINGS. And Things were just fine how they were! Natural Order!" Why don't kids take their sweethearts to the malt shop or the drive in anymore? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/3134057/posts quote:Remember when young people used to date? Whatever happened to that? A bunch of predictable responses, kids these days... quote:The article brings back memories of a better time in life than what we are seeing today. What happens now is two people meet in a bar someplace, have a few drinks, climb into bed and never see one another again. Not what I consider a long term relationship that started out with a simple “date”. We are NOT animals (although there are a lot who act like it) that senses a female “in heat”, chases her until he mates with her and then leaves to seek another. quote:The feminist movement is what happened. quote:Young people need immediate gratification. Nothing “takes time”. I meet a lot of young couples (I’m a Realtor) that have met through Match.com etc. There they can meet the “perfect mate” and then “hook up”. Then we get this gem: quote:Nobody is interested in fostering relationships and there is a dismissive and avoidant mindset amongst most young women. You have to constantly prove your intrinsic value constantly, and are treated as if you are easioy replacable. The level of distrust for the sake of distrust is... the “suspicion” is overwhelming. ...which sounds like their ideal of Capitalist employment.

What a bunch of degenerates! The only real way is to have two families get together and decide which of their offspring will be wedded. How can you ensure the social status of your family if you let your children have free reign over who they pair off with?! Things sure did go down hill...

It's funny to me because it all relates to their outdated idea of the world. They didn't have online dating, they also likely didn't use the insane amount of time some people put into work and/or school, and there's a lot of telecommuting. The only people I meet are when I step out of my apartment, and sometimes that can be for a day or two if I don't have to run errands.

I know it's godless Scandinavia and all, but we haven't had dating here for at least thirty years. The more reserved people do something of the kind, but the rest of us get into drunken gently caress times and then try to craft a relationship afterwards. It's just a sign of the times, but leave it to these nazi mummies to forget which century they're in.

I'm not even sure what he's complaining about. Does he think couples don't still do things together? Or is it the formal courtship rituals he misses, like he lived in some real life version of this.

Its a little treat how (based on going 2/2 thus far) that for every episode of Cosmos, there will be Freepers pissed that a feral is on TV telling them about things they can't understand. A double play of racial hate and science mixed into one neat little package.

VideoTapir posted:Why don't kids take their sweethearts to the malt shop or the drive in anymore? If you take even a cursory look at everyday historical writing from a generation ago to the graffiti of ancient Greece thousands of years ago you see a common trend of people having casual sex. It's one of the things that binds our species in common. You also see continually see people lamenting the lapse of morals in recent times that indicate that their generation is going to be the last one before the fall of civilization. So I suppose Freep is just taking part in a long, long human tradition.
