the reason you don't get anything done is that your projects have overwhelming scope and doing something simple that works seems so trite and obvious that you won't even try so - open your loving editor - write some boring poo poo - debug and keep going it turns out that learning to build large systems is not a case of learning the right way but doing it bad and wrong and learning from your mistakes so, get out there and make some loving mistakes here are some simple loving challenges for you - pick up a new language & write a flappy bird clone - pick up a book on haskell and do all the exercises (alt: do the same for sicp/htdp) - go and read the practice of programming and stop being a big whiny babby because software engineering gets hard when you're not just writing skins for databases

there is some old loving saying about comics, writing, drawing etc that you have thousands of bad ideas in your system and you have to just get on with writing them and developing them before you get close to being good at a thing i have and continue to make thousands of loving mistakes because if anything, that's the only way i've found to write good software

Is there a point to a pursuit of perfection? Do you find a point you're comfortable with and stay there or do you keep on pressing on? When do you stop? Until you die? Does it matter? Do you even care? I guess all that matters is shiny glitter and the slits of women to blow your wad to.

No, I know what really matters. It's to get to a point high enough to gloat over others without caring to surpass your own mediocrity, turning yourself into a very large hypocrite.
