Depends on what you mean by land war. The US could probably eject Russian troops from Crimea and follow that up by sinking the Black Sea Fleet and bombing Russian military bases in the area. But that's not going to happen because the US is more likely to send troops to invade the Moon than we are to invade Crimea.

But, yeah, the idea of invading Russia proper is sheer lunacy.

Yeah, but Russia isn't Serbia and starting something like that doesn't end with Crimea. The international fallout of the two superpowers engaging in open conflict is just so far beyond a simple military operation. Like seriously, if America sinks the Black Sea Fleet, we might as well start gearing up for WWIII. And the US and the world isn't prepared for that kind of conflict.

Russia isn't a military superpower anymore. While they're more than a match for Ukraine and other countries in Eastern Europe, their conventional forces just don't have the power of the old Red Army. A conventional war against the US would run them out of ammunition and equipment fairly quickly, and their conscript force just isn't ready for action beyond Russia's immediate neighborhood. Their economy also isn't ready for a major war, and IIRC their GDP is about half of Germany's and less than an eighth of the money dick that the US swings.

They do have a fuckload of nukes still hanging around though, so a lack of conventional forces is pretty much a moot point.

Look at the wikipedia article for the theory

It was the most plausible alternate theory within physics that got shut down by the gravity wave discovery. Creationists didn't get any further than the title of the book, and went "aha, we totally owned those stupid liberal scientists." I have no doubt he titled the book to bait creationists, but the theory isn't a "not even wrong" thing.

I don't mean to appear crazy. I'm aware it was a fringe theory. But that site isn't (specifically) creationist bunk.

Probably not much more than a month ago some Freeper posted an article about some discovery related to the Big Bang along with a comment that this was just more liberal "science" bullshit. Shockingly the entire thread was pretty much everyone just attacking the OP and talking about how the Big Bang theory was legit science, totally compatible with the Bible, and how cool it was that we were learning more about it. I wonder what changed... could it be a spillover from their hatred of Cosmos/Tyson?

NASA-Sponsored Study Warns of ‘Impending Collapse’

quote:

The study, which has been accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed Elsevier journal, Ecological Economics, says that the industrialized nations of the world have, in their pursuit of energy resources, created an unsustainable model that’s doomed to implode on itself, creating a power vacuum and chaos.

“The fall of the Roman Empire, and the equally — if not more — advanced Han, Mauryan, and Gupta Empires, as well as so many advanced Mesopotamian Empires, are all testimony to the fact that advanced, sophisticated, complex, and creative civilizations can be both fragile and impermanent,” the study reads.

“While some members of society might raise the alarm that the system is moving towards an impending collapse and therefore advocate structural changes to society in order to avoid it, Elites and their supporters, who opposed making these changes, could point to the long sustainable trajectory ‘so far’ in support of doing nothing,’” it adds.

In short, Ahmed concluded, businesses, governments, corporations and individuals need to realize that they cannot go on “business as usual” and that “policy and structural changes are required immediately.”

Rather than influence populations to gather together in cities they should be encouraged to move out of cities and spread out over the land. Most all natural resources are inefficiently used in cities. Most pollution is in cities. Most crime is in cities. Corrupt politicians use cities to manipulate their populations to garner great deals of cash for themselves. Human beings work more successfully and are much healthier when they live off the land. When cities are outlawed then government can be almost non-existent. It won’t have to waste its’ time solving city infrastructure issues. There won’t be huge block of voters for politicians take advantage of. If they wished to be elected to anything they’ll just have to literally go out and beat the bushes.

Think about this. Most wasted money for government programs go to support masses of people that cannot work or function in a city, yet, that’s where they live. Why not get these folks out in and on the land away from the cities working rural duties. It could be farming, manufacturing, food distribution, all kinds of things.

Concentrated bunches of human beings and the problems associated with them being concentrated are becoming too expensive for the rest of America to have to support. I would guess the latter. Literally all it took was America electing a black man President and some states allowing gays to marry for the "patriots" to dream about a foreign oligarch conquering America, shredding our constitution, and reducing us to absolute Despotism.

Alright. Let me take you through this. It's a map of lovely old racists thinking lovely things:

1. So late last month Obama announced and initiative called "My Brother's Keeper" which was supposed to help young black men get a good education and find good paying jobs.

2. FReepers hate this, of course, but they're also convinced that Obama is a secret Muslim who's working with a vast conspiracy to bring about the Fall of America and the establishment of the Global Caliphate.

3. To FReepers, everything that Obama does is in effort of bringing about the Global Caliphate.

4. Therefore "My Brother's Keeper" isn't about helping young black men, it's about getting Muslims established in positions of power within the government.

5. NASA comes out with a report predicting some doom & gloom.

6. Because NASA is putting out this report during the Obama administration, it must be in some way connected to the plot to establish the Global Caliphate.

7. Therefore Obama is using "My Brother's Keeper" to infiltrate Muslims into NASA.

8. Therefore the report is a Muslim plot.

9. Therefore NASA is a treasonous organization and the report can be safely ignored.

It’s the protesting at military funerals that has been wrongheaded and downright counterproductive. They should’ve confined their protests to homosexuals’ funerals. With AIDS and all the cancers they contract because of their deathstyle, there shouldn’t be any shortage of them.

The peanut butter makes a better sandwich when it’s spread over the entire slice of bread rather than just clumped together on just a few spots.

Goodbye everyone. We are all totally hosed.

Wow. This guy is just full-on Pol Pot. Also, anthropology and sociology: basically peanut butter.

I was selected for my skill.
Here is a link to the interview where the NASA guy said:

quote:

[H]e wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math; he wanted me to expand our international relationships; and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and engineering — science, math and engineering.

He refers to Obama, obviously. Clearly this is the work of a future caliphate!

I think it's extra funny because the quote was initially given to Al Jazeera.

My absolute favorite thing about Christian fascists is that they never, ever, mention the love of money among the sins that are "destroying the nation". Greed and love of earthly possessions was the number one sin Jesus preached against and it's just so painfully obvious they have never even loving read the New Testament even though it's a very short, easy read.

No no no no. You get to keep your speedboat as long as you're humble about it, just like a camel on its knees passing through a gate into Jerusalem.

I've heard it used but in the spirit of "people shouldn't be concerned with money and want what the rich has earned" to support low upper class taxes.

Well, this does describe Sparta. Maybe they think they're Spartan. You don't know.

The penultimate example.

By the LEFTIST definition of “diversity”, you’re seeing the culmination of it.

“Diversity” means

fewer white people, less Western Culture.

The basketball court is the penultimate example of “diversity”.

More Lefty Chait speech...

Hey, Jonathan - I just don't bother to watch basketball. In that way, I don't have any racist, stereotypical thoughts.

And unlike President MomJeans, I don't get unnatural desires to sniff sweaty jockstraps...
