Roland Jones posted:I was wondering the same thing, really. She claims to have no connection to the ether, so either other things can let you see psychopomps, or it's like when Ketrak showed himself to Kat. I'd certainly think the latter makes a lot of sense; Jones is interesting enough for them to say hello at least once. She looks like a human but she's been around a lot of tragedies and, for want of a better word, lived through them. Countless generations worth, in fact. maswastaken fucked around with this message at 09:39 on Mar 21, 2014 |

Well I guess that clears it with Jones not being a robot. But more seriously, why does a psychopomp say "it's a pleasure to be in your presence"? Does this mean that wherever Jones goes death is sure to follow? Blasmeister posted:So are they going to play chess now? Dice? Not really sure what the protocol is here. I'll just imagine that Jones will go "Want this boy? Come and take him from me." and that would be enough. He does seem to have already taken a step back in that last panel.

"You are Old One. You have started talking in a very contrived way for some reason, like there was no better way to introduce my name and purpose to the readers, the latter being particularly unnecessary considering my attire and first line in this page. Also, if I only escorted folks who died through their own fault I'd be out of a job, so why don't you go and see if the Germans have any other bombs you can get beneath?"

To me Jones complaint sounds more like there is a special psycopomp for people that were killed by Jones. Which would be pretty awesome.

Jones, it's not the Ankou's fault that you screwed it up. Let the poor guy do his job without interference, he has a busy schedule as it is.

So is Jones going to try and prevent Annie from bringing Mort into the nether? What if Mort's been wanting to go for ages but Jones has intimidated all the psychopomps away from him?

Does this mean that wherever Jones goes death is sure to follow? I'd imagine Jones is something baffling even to psychopoms. After all, their whole deal is basically catalysing the concept of mortality by transferring the souls to the afterlife so somebody like Jones who is truly and utterly immortal would be outside of their frame of reference. I suppose that could be a reason why they'd treat her with curiosity or even reverence. Also, she's probably the only "living" (i.e. self-aware) thing on earth that is older than any of them. Anyway, this page seems another hint towards the idea that Jones is not quite as lacking an emotion as she indicated towards Annie. It indicates that she at least seems to have some sense of right and wrong.

Do they qualify as being born, though? I don't know how "being somehow reincarnated after death in a preadolescent human body" is handled by the civil registry. Most of them don't even have a name.

He's doing his best not to totally fangirl right now. Also, he was not visible to her until he introduced himself.

And then Jones forces Ankou to put Mort's soul back into his body. He goes to the countryside, where he lives until he tragically discovers that he's allergic to bees.

She's not the Federation, guys. She tells the Court what she thinks they should do (even if sometimes they don't listen) so that's not really "non interference". She said she wants humans to figure things out for themselves, and that she prefers to observe things and not exactly take a side. That doesn't mean she follows the Prime Directive.

Yea she interferes with plenty of people's lives. There's Eglamore for one, she's changed his life in a pretty huge way. Same with Edward Jones before him, and Samuel Langdon before him.

To me, Jones is the bridge between the Court and the Forest (besides... the actual bridge). She's equally magical and scientific/observational, at least in my interpretation. I want a Gunnerkrigg cartoon series like there's no freakin' tomorrow, because I want to hear all these characters speak. I wonder if Jones would sound like a female Mr. Freeze.

Thinking about it Coyote's Tooth probably can't hurt Jones because that would conflict with her statement to coyote that she could take Annie and Coyote basically couldn't stop her. v: well I pretty much assume the moment Coyote learns about something that SUPPOSEDLY can't be damaged by anything he's going to do his best to damage that thing so if Coyote COULD damage Jones he would've already done so. reignonyourparade fucked around with this message at 21:30 on Mar 21, 2014 |

I think my favorite part of today's page is that Jones actually looks legitimately annoyed that Ankou is there to collect Mortimer. The only other time in the comic that she's ever really expressed emotion like that is when she was getting her hair ruffled by City Face during the filming of City Face 2!
