Losing the SCF final in game 7 is rough, but do you know what's worse? That it was against the Coyotes Rutkowski 1.0 won his SC in the old thread. With Tampa Bay. EDIT: Rutkowski had to be #1 in hits in the playoffs, right?

Have you tried running this in EHM, Hockles? This is good stuff but you'd get the added bonus of international competition/goons loving off to europe/the ability to start people in NCAA/CHL/Euro leagues. Actually you can even start people like at age 13 in random junior/high school leagues and the CHL/NCAA teams will recruit them. Players even retire and become coaches and whatnot. Potatoes literally has not had a single point in three years, and gets nearly 10m/7 years. I finally get real ice time this year, and in my hot brained shorted season, come just short of a ppg, throw a little under 3 hits a game and a little under 3 pim a game. And I was fourth in playoff scoring. I get a little under 7m/4 years. WHAT THE HELL

I have looked into EHM, but too much has changed in the structure of the NHL for EHM, even with mods to be able to accommodate it. Plus, doesn't it still cost money to use?

I'm talking EHM 07, which has all the post 06 lockout stuff coded in:       I don't know if it costs money, I've still got my old copy, but it's also a pretty easy game to find via :files: if they're not selling it anymore. You need a custom start date patch and a roster update after that basically. To add goons, the database editor is really easy to use, and you can even randomize their potentials so you don't know who is actually going to stick in the NHL and who is going to end up in Europe or the ECHL (and even if someone doesn't make the NHL they won't fall out of the game as you can see in that last pic). The downsides are that scoring is definitely too high (it's not 80s but it's too high) and simming takes longer (although you can just sim to a certain date and leave your computer on). There's a mod that supposedly evens out scoring but I haven't really tried it. I just think for the purposes of what you're doing it would add a lot of cool things!
