Also just caught up. This show is loving awesome and I'm severely disappointed in myself that I brushed it off when it started. I hope that the team behind this actually get to make a real Gundamn show next, even with such low stakes they make the drama engaging, and the comedy doesn't overshadow it, the comedy and drama compliment each other really well, which only makes both better. Can't wait for next episode.

SatansBestBuddy posted:Also just caught up. A number of the staff members on this show worked on a 'real' Gundam show already. The director worked on Gundam 00 and Gundam AGE and the writer worked on Gundam 00. The likely answer is that they're getting a lot less Sunrise interference because the show is selling toys without actually needing to do or change anything. If they went back to a real Gundam show they'd probably be back to doing what marketing wants.

Am I the only one that thinks it's a little dickish the particle field just cuts out at the end of a round and drops the Gunpla like stones? "Yay, you won! Aww, your Gundam broke in half when it dropped two feet onto the gameboard".

Unless the giant asteroid in some way corresponds to the plavsky crystal then I can't see how this could possibly happen given that the asteroid in the game is just an image made of mass-less particles by a computer to spice up the plastic robot fights. It's more likely that Mashita will release all the models stored in the system out of desperation, prompting everyone to join in and help defeat them. I hope even Czoimmer, Luang and all the other contestants get in on the action too. Giant RX-78-2 and giant Zaku presumably following after or during this point of course.

Pretty great episode! I loved how they showed that while Yuuki still has his combat reflexes, the chairman at the helm is a complete moron when it comes to tactics and ended up hurting his chances more than anything else by controlling Yuuki. Also a Build Knuckle finish that doesn't feel phoned in. "They punched it so hard the evil came off."

Only other time the build knuckle wasn't crammed down our throats was the the Fenice battle which was also epic, it went over the drat top with it here and felt good doing it. If you haven't seen this episode yet (why are you here reading?!) this is going to be a drat treat. Also the DM Exia was pretty drat boss. I've been watching 00 and I didn't really dig the original (the gn drive sticking out of its back is ugly, I'm sorry), but the DM with its sharpened edges and menacing color scheme is getting put on my shopping list. Finally the next episode preview looks like its going to prove my theory about how awesome a second season would have been if it was fleet sized battles with fat squads of suits attacking large defended targets. Sei Squadron, just sayin... Also, how does everyone know how well the kits are selling from this show? Some website? More importantly if this show is moving mountains of plastic... any chance they will be milking this and release other gunpla featured in the show? Who's got the inside track on this? There's actually a reason it's exposed on the Exia like that: The entire design forsakes armor for speed and reflexes. Those purple strips on the legs and hanging between the shoulders and upper arms are unprotected data cables, and I guess the exposed GN drive lets it move faster or something. Something tells me that Mashita's own assessment as a criminal is considerably higher than it really is. He's expecting Reiji, the prince of Arian to recognize him, but for all we know he's just some guy who stole the planet's equivalent of an air conditioner.

Yeah I knew the Exia was built for speed, but the cancerous lump on his back is just ugly to me. It really sticks out there like some sort of reverse pregnancy. The other suits that use the pseudo gn drives that have theirs sticking out likewise are ugly even if they have cool lance guns and shields. The Exia DM kit has some sort of tri-bladed option that goes there instead and that looks much more bad-rear end. I'll grab atleast one, its not a double tap for me like the GM K9 though. Might get the booster also though if I get into recoloring kits.

What I want to know is how they took a model that looks as bad in theory is the DM Exia and made it look so beautiful on screen. I will admit I'm kind of sad that I was wrong last week. I figured we were going to see glowing red part embody system rather than the Trans-Am that we actually saw out of it. Then again they did the Trans-Am well too, so who am I to complain?

This was pretty much confirmed when Reiji met Mashita. Mashita's entire thing is that he's a petty insecure idiot with delusions of grandeur, which is totally in character for a petty thief who suddenly found a way to get rich and feel like he's untouchable for an extended period of time.

If they give us an Mg I'll buy it.
