Drop the Mana Flower and use the Mana Shackles (or the new Celestial Shackles), I haven't used mana potions in forever. You take plenty of unavoidable damage at end game, it's basically free mana. Unless you're some sort of Terraria savant who never takes damage then I guess you don't need the Spectre set anyway and can wear the mask piece instead.

I think he comes by every other day or every three days. You have to have been logged into the world for the full period for him to come in, since logging out and back in resets the time. He'll also disappear if you log out. (Obviously this only applies to single player; multiplayer it presumably goes by how long the server's been active)

Gotten two key molds since the update, so the drop rate seems to have improved considerably. Not a big fan of the fact that so many of the new crafting stations are only obtainable from chests, though. They seem to be relatively common, but having to gen a new world and scour it for the special chests is still a pain in the rear end. Though it beats farming for the Meat Grinder in the underground Crimson! EDIT: Fun fact - most of the weapons in my chests appear to have lost their modifiers, apparently a known bug in the new version. They keep their prefixes, but the actual effects of those prefixes are gone. If you have something important in your stash with a nice modifier, might want to hold off on loading the game until they release a bugfix patch. Over the past two days I ran a fresh character in a fresh world to see what all the changes were. Playing magic-specialized since that's been my favorite playstyle and I wanted to see just how badly magic got nerfed. Normal mode didn't seem too different. Changelog says the higher end magic staves got nerfed a little bit, and I could tell, but it wasn't too bad. The mana potion debuff is the real bullshit and I ditched the mana flower in favor of mana shackles. It's not so bad using mana shackles actually. If I ran out of mana it just meant I wasn't taking much damage. Hardmode has more differences. The Golden Shower spell is noticeably weaker, but it's still very useful. Some weapons are actually stronger now, like the Rainbow Gun which I especially liked using against Plantera since I just fought it in a big open area and lured it up and down through the rainbow for massive damage. I used the Wasp Gun some in the dungeon and jungle temple and it's actually pretty good now especially combined with one of the Spectre armor sets. Speaking of the Spectre armor set, I was pretty mad when I saw how lovely the hood was. -40% damage is pretty harsh. Tried using it anyway and it's not so bad. The amount it heals is still pretty respectable relative to the damage you deal. I quite like the new Spectre mask, though, and the increased defense compared to the hood is nice. Overall, the magic nerfs aren't as bad as I expected and it's still very viable doing a magic-specialist character in since player, but I hope a future patch improves things. Since I wasn't using any mana potions, I'd like to see better mana bonuses and cost reduction on the magic armor sets, especially the Spectre set. The damage reduction on the Spectre hood is bad enough, increasing mana cost on top of that is just plain mean.

Personally I think I'm fine with the healing Spectre now, even with the damage debuff, because where it was at in 1.2.3 was just mean. Also, aside from a bunch of bugfixes and more QoL stuff (plat stacks to 999) the Frost Moon was made slightly easier to advance, and some enemies do less damage/fire slower. I guess they realized just how ridiculous it was to gate content like that for people who don't play online.

I'm doing a brand new playthrough, trying out some of the new features, and I've gotta say, the game is still a lot of fun. I didn't really notice the mech bosses being any harder, and there are a bunch of new toys to offset the nerfs. The best thing about this patch is the Pulse Bow. That thing is insane with Shroomite headgear. I love being able to annihilate the Golem with a bow and wooden arrows.

I know this is an odd question given that a patch just hit, but has there been any word on when the final update will be? I know Redigit said that the Lunar Boss was going to be coming in what he planned to be the very last Terraria update, and since we haven't got that yet I assume it's still coming.

The spelunker change is definitely lame but I found the gold glow made it easier to distinguish between ores that actually matter. I just ran another playthrough and I didn't find the balance changes too horrendous, I did luck out with a Gatligator, Crimson key mold, and Pulse Bow though.

I just started playing for the first time. Within two days I'm about to beat the regular game, I've got maxed out gear, health, and mana. I guess the only thing to do is make an area to fight Wall of Flesh. The best way to do this is just by going and clearing out all the blocks until you have a flat, contained area where you can just run backwards right? That seems like it's going to take longer than it did to beat the rest of the game, even with dynamite.

It's easier to grab some stacks of dirt and stone and just build a long platform. You'll probably need to knock through a few hell houses but it's overall easier.

Unless you really want to build a platform for him, I like to just fight him regularly. Hell is already pretty open, so it just feels frantic racing away from him (unlike other bosses where they just sit inside you and god help you if you don't have a arena).

Build a runway at a decent height and pick through the obsidian and hellstone towers. The Wall will spawn on whichever side of the map has the least distance to the edge from where you dropped the doll so build accordingly. I'd recommend making a Phoenix Blaster before you start if you haven't already.

If you have lava waders which I think you can make pre-hardmode you don't even need to pave over the lava. And "contained" is not what you want, you don't want the Wall putting its vulnerable spots on the far side of a ceiling or anything. Honestly, I just used an obsidian skull and water walker potion so the lava wouldn't hurt me and then just made sure I could run/jump over any obstacle (picked through a couple of ruined houses). I think I was mostly using the demon scythe spell and the space gun with the meteor armor, I was able to defeat it before it got halfway across a medium world map.Flameingblack posted:What's hard mode exactly? Do you make a new character in the same world and fight harder bosses? Same world, same character. After you beat the wall of flesh, a strip of crimson/corruption and a strip of a new biome called hallow spread out diagonally upward from the underworld in a "V" shape and slowly start spreading. New, more difficult enemies start to spawn and more difficult versions of the previous bosses also appear, as do new ores that are used to make stronger armor and weapons. Before you enter hardmode, build your village several tiles above the ground floating so that crimson/corruption can't spread there. If it does, it can cause your NPC housing to become unsuitable. I was basically ready for end game before fighting the first boss because I didnt look at any guides Hard mode is the same world, same character, but all the enemies are replaced by much harder enemies and a bunch of new much harder bosses appear; for a while, even regular enemies will have you outclassed with pre-hardmode equipment. Also, a bunch more Corruption/Crimson appears, Hallow is added, and both spread much faster and through many more materials. Much more powerful equipment becomes available as you progress, and more dangerous events such as Solar Eclipses become unlocked as well. Wall of Flesh isn't too difficult, and you don't need to literally level the underworld. It's enough to just clear/build yourself a path so that you can keep moving for a decent distance, because if you get caught between the Wall of Flesh and an ash mountain or obsidian tower, you're going to take a lot of damage. Wall of Flesh will be more difficult for you than the other bosses, since it seems like you have a habit of over-preparing for bosses, and WoF is made to be fought with the best pre-hardmode armor there is so you can't get better armor that trivializes him in the same way that you did with the other bosses.

Flameingblack posted:I had the full Metorite armor before battling any bosses (Including the gun) ... Ahh, that explains it. Meteorite and Molten armor are two different things. I think you only need a gold / platinum pickaxe for Meteorite, but for Hellstone mining in the underworld you need a nightmare pickaxe. If you choose to do this, be a little careful or bring obsidian skin potions, each hellstone drops half a block of lava when broken. In Hard Mode, wraiths also spawn at night, and can travel through walls killing all your NPCs. If you build your village a few squares above ground, they won't be able to reach the houses, though if the house is slightly off screen, the wraith can spawn on the roof and float down to kill everyone inside. I've beaten the Wall of Flesh with a 300 hp character, Necro armor, Molten Fury bow, unholy arrows, and some potion buffs. Got down to 200 hp at lowest during the fight, and that was mainly because I didn't clear enough hell towers above the fighting platform and I didn't have a clear shot at the wall of flesh surprisingly often. That made the fight take a lot longer than it should have. I've also tried fighting the WoF without a platform and using obsidian skin / gravity potions. It's not terrible, and faster than building a bridge, but there are lots of ledges and buildings you can easily get caught on / get your shots blocked by, wasting time and letting the WoF get free hits in on you.

Just guessing here, but what I'm seeing in that picture is an indication of multiple pets, mounts (either unicorn on a stick style or reindeer syle), and probably two new vanity sets, probably more. I speculate there may be another bee/hornet/wasp theme boss added to allow you to get the wasp-y armour, but more likely it'll just drop from UGJ bugs. Maybe worth a few hours of mucking around to see the new stuff.
