Graham's character is simply smashing! Lol! A prostitute cousin of Madame Trashheap.

Coconut Indian posted:Nearly every week the judges will say how much work Rashaad did and how great it is and he never wins. Poppycock. I'm starting to notice that his stuff is usually excellent technically, but he's not conforming to the challenges enough to be one of the top 2 in any given week. This week is a perfect example; to win he needed to add some element of goofyness to the makeup, and it didn't seem like he really even tried to do that.

Hmmmm, so far this Eric Fox show is just Fox giving a quick rundown of their current project and then they started working on it. Cautiously optimistic... Edit: Godamnit not 2 minutes later they're discussing who will attend some client meeting. Here we go again.

I feel like Graham should have won that contest. His character had so many small touches, while Tyler's worm monster had a cool head and arms and that's it.

Magnus Condomus posted:I really dug Foxy and Co. Tons better than the trashheap that was Monster Man. No family drama. No relationship drama. Just professionals trying to do their best. Yeah I tried watching 'Monster Man' a few times but I don't think I ever made it through an entire episode. There's also 'Making Monsters' on the Travel Channel of all places which also sticks to the "We've only got 3 days to complete this crazy FX order!!" script and they've also got the bogus tension between the staff but you can tell that everyone actually likes each other so it's not quite as grating, plus they churn out a whole bunch of halloween props every episode. On 'Carvers' they joked around with each other but didn't have any fake tension. 'Halloween Wars' on the Food Network was a horror-themed cooking show where they made stuff out of cake and chocolate and carved pumpkins and there was a fair bit of rivalry and bitchiness which got old fairly fast. I'm sure there's others that I'm forgetting. Foxy & Co was okay but I don't think that Eric F quite has the charisma to lead a show on his own and his exposition pieces to camera were a little awkward. The parts where they were messing around trying to figure out how to make the effects work were fun but the end results really didn't look that good and I felt that Nicole's short project at the start worked a lot better than the main story. There's an entire genre of shows based around "We've only got 3 days to create this monster effect!" and it's not really standing out of the crowd for me. I'd watch it if it became an ongoing series but I can't see myself raving to my friends about it.

Really didn't like the Foxy show. The deadline thing is even more annoying in this than it was in Face Off. I want to see what these guys can do with a few weeks time, not 24 hours. It comes off really fake, and the make ups are, again, sub-par because they had to rush. I was hoping they'd be working on actual motion pictures, and not cheese youtube videos. It reminds me of Monster Man but with all the people trading places. It just isn't fun to watch rushed poo poo. Maybe try a show following the team working on a movie over six months documenting all of it, then compressing it down into a season after the movie has already come out on the big screen. Some of the Season 1 people went on to do effects for the Hunger Games. Maybe they should have had a team filming that, and releasing a season of it? That's what I want to see. I don't like those flicks, but I would love to see the Face Off guys working on real movies doing real effects. Philthy fucked around with this message at 01:16 on Mar 20, 2014 |

The episodes will turn up on SyFy Now sometime after they air (it varies from a day to a week depending on the series) if you can sign up for that, otherwise you should be able to get a season pass on Amazon Instant Video for less than $2 per episode.

Why does there have to be a deadline? They aren't understanding that the deadline in Face-Off is a necessary evil. There has to be X number of challenges in a given season, so you can't let the contestants work for a month on a single project or we'd get like one season every three years. After a bunch of seasons of Face-Off a lot of people want to see this kind of talent in its natural element. That is, when they are given an industry accepted normal amount of time to complete a professional project with an actual client. Nobody wants to see Face-Off restrictions shoehorned into what is supposed to be an actual business, its not interesting and feels very fake.

I'm not convinced that contestants wouldn't be rushing to complete if they were given two more days to finish. While I'd like to see the same target amount of work, but more polished, I think they would just try to go bigger, and the same number wouldn't finish on time.

I wonder if Rashaad has been holding back because he made these huge effort pieces early on and they didn't get the recognition they deserved, while Connie was doing well with minimal effort pieces and decent paint jobs. Maybe he is trying to play more to what the judge's taste seems to be than what he wants. I hope he goes back to his earlier style, I want more stuff like this:

Yep, there'd be a few people who spent that extra time well and a few who squander it and try to do half the work during last looks as usual. If there's scheduling constrictions on filming they could even have one challenge run shorter (like the one day nude painting challenge from an earlier season) to compensate the extra time in the other challenge.

I thought the moleman looked fine - not great but decent - and didn't deserve to get slagged on as bad as it did. Possibly they just want to make it look like a question who they kick instead of everyone knowing it's Darren for that crappy panoramic vision thing.

Daren does tend to lean fine-artsy. I didn't like Niko's. That guest job would terrify me to have as a manager. Even when she likes something, she looks very disappointed. They missed the story of the digger. He was never a human. That is a mutant mole.
