Basically TVT dost protest too much re: Not being creeps. I do remember noticing it last time I watched Fantasia. It sort of is a big deal - only not because 'OMG BOOBS!', but in the sense that any really good artistic decision is a big deal. That whole sequence is wild and aggressive and full of imagination and it really doesn't pull any punches, especially considering it's family viewing. (I have a vivid memory of hiding under the cinema seat when I was a child.) The fact that the harpy is naked and her body isn't smoothed over like a Barbie doll has a kind of shock value, especially since she's just a brief glimpse like a screamer; it gives it a kind of rawness that adds to the horror. But then the whole piece is full of smart, shocking decisions like that. You could probably spend paragraphs talking about every shot. Focusing in on the norks is a bit ... well, TVTropes. Darth TNT posted:According to Google translate, that is Chinese for Red Deer outsiders. Makes sense, virtually all of Japan's Kanji symbols are derived from Chinese idiograms. The word "Kanji" literally means "Chinese Character(s)", as it's a combination of "Kan" (a mondergreen of "Han", as in 'Han Dynasty') and "Ji" (character/writing). As you may expect, some symbols don't mean the same things in each language. "馬鹿" is romanized as "mǎlů" in Chinese, but is romanized as "baka" in Japanese. The former means "Red Deer", while the latter means "idiot". Interestingly, "外人" is translated as "foreigner" in both languages. Can we see more of the hilariously bad conlang that troper vomited up for their fantasy heartbreaker? I love seeing idiots trying to be Tolkien.

Here's more from the rest of the P5's Eiken debate, which for some reason continued even after Fast Eddie said "gently caress that poo poo": Sabbo posted:That said, it's not worth being cut. Being poorly written and containing the most blatant yet there's-no-way-to-mistake-this-for-hentai fanservice I've ever seen (If boobs the size of beachballs isn't blatant, I don't know what is. :P) doesn't make this too obscene for our policies. Ahahahaha. So it's obviously perverted but at the same time not "too obscene" for their Family Fri-oh who are we kidding, for Google to once again pull their ad revenue. But the best part is that this troper thinks it was probably someone abusing the site's flagging system, not someone who legitimately thought the manga was creepy. Dark Confidant posted:Hmm. When The Fast One posted some snapshots of Eiken as his reason for the initial cut, I took the liberty to go through a handful of chapters. shimaspawn posted:I've seen it. I never want to see it again. I've tried to block most of it out of my memory. It may not be true porn, but it's obvious that the main goal of it is someone's arousal. It's just so bad at it... Again, their thought process is: It sexualises children, it's nonstop fanservice and it's universally regarded as terrible from an "artistic" standpoint but hey, there's no such thing as notability so we should keep it! Catbert posted:I wouldn't mind this being cut, but I'm mildly concerned that the "Heavy fanservice = Porn" line would be used as an argument against things like Strike Witches and Agent Aika, which could use some cleanup of the pages but are legit, non-pornographic works that I don't think we need to cut. Oh no, the witch-hunt has begun! Please spare my preferred anime porn! Anime: Strike Witches posted:On first glance, Strike Witches appears as little more than a Fanservice-focused series. Anime: Agent Aika posted:Agent Aika (or AIKa) is both the Ultimate Panty Shot Vehicle and definitive proof that Most Writers Are Male. The discussion continues. I was going to keep quoting these creeps but this post is already long enough as it is so here's the gist: Tropers basically arguing for Eiken to be kept despite it being dogshit terrible, mainly on principle. They hilariously write about how the anime/manga is tasteless, horrible, worthless drivel, devoid of quality, the kid's version of an exploitation film, sexualizes underage teenagers/children, etc. BUT it's not literally hardcore porn so it should stay because they'd have to "bend the rules to get rid of it". Okay, two more quotes whining about how the P5 is going too far and then I'm done: Oroboro posted:I'm not familiar with the work in question in the slightest, but "This is crap" or "Nobody would miss it if it were gone" should never factor into the decision process whatsoever. animeg 3282 posted::O Huge boobs are softcore porn now. That's what I'm talking about, really. There are so many things to talk about, but TV Tropes always focuses on things like that. If it's creepy perv media, they talk about it and then try to assure us it's not as creepy as it sounds and is totally awesome. If it's not creepy perv media, they talk about those things anyway and focus on them disproportionately, like the above Spice & Wolf thing where they made it sound like some sort of porn anime in their attempts to assure us it wasn't. Or the Fantasia thing, where they seem to be operating under the assumption that everyone else only knows about it because of demon nipple. They can't not be creepy about these things, and it reveals a lot more about them than they intend.

Eryc Bwaune's base of operations is Bwaune Mansion; this gothic looking house seems out of place in the center of Mega-city, a three story Victorian mansion surrounded by towering skyscrapers made of glass and steel. Many new-comers assume this home was built centuries ago and the city then grew around it. The truth, however, is that Eryc purchased a large military R+D company, destroyed their main building, and built his mansion smack dab on the property in the center of Mega-City. Below the mansion is the original building's massive underground facilities that Eryc has turned into the Wraith-Cave. Eric Bwaune's suite, along with his private library and dojo, are all on the top floor. Maids have individual bedrooms (and a large, communal bathroom) on the second floor, and the ground floor has the kitchen, dining room, and other public areas. Game day: 1 Time: 6:00 AM Life (or something like it, for the mansion's undead residents) is stirring in the Bwaune Mansion. Breakfast must be cooked, the Master must be awoken, and an announcement made that will forever change life in the mansion (or at least, change it for the next few days). But even the Master doesn't know that the League of Darkness, the cult he abandoned in order to become Mega-City's Darkest Beacon of Hope (TM), is stirring; once more planning to be the Gallager's Hammer that smashes Mega-City to juicy red pulp and have their deadly murderous vengence upon Eryc Bwaune. BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!!! (Note: Six exclamation marks. Sure sign of deranged villainry. That or villainous derangery, I can't keep track.) OOC: Maids should begin in their bedrooms. If your character sleeps, you will be in your nightgowns or other sleeping outfits and should change before doing anything else. No roll needed to change clothes, but since the maids all share one communal bathroom, there may be some competition for who gets to use the shower first.
