I always felt bad about that one. Terry Funk played Johnny's mentor in the storyline and behind the scenes took a real shining to him and really wanted to see him succeed. They did that hardcore match where they'd go balls out insane on it in hopes that Johnny might break the glass ceiling. Said match put him on the shelf.

That was probably a real bad idea in WCW. You could have hardcore matches where you were literally killing yourselves and the announcers would just make fun of you.
