I have an almost exact setup - mine is vertical but Escort 9500i/dashcam and Golf vs Sportwagen. The best way is to run it across the windshield, then down the outside of the a pillar. The only bit that might give you trouble is the top of the windshield. I've got some prying tools which I pushed the cord with and it's in good now.

Thanks. Where did you tap into power? I was thinking it might be possible to pull from the map lights, since they're switched up there I figure there has got to be a hot leg up there. I wouldn't have to run down the a-pillars at all that way.

I like the combination of one device to avoid getting caught and the other to continuously record evidence.

How effective are radar detectors anyway? I remember my older brother having one way way back and reading about laser guns negating them in car mags back then (...and ads about detectors that detected lasers), but haven't really thought about them otherwise.

Quite a coincidence, Alfetta coupe trunk spring run! It bothers me two people did this to a rare car on the same weekend, on a non-Alfa board. Even there, it would not happen.

I must admit it was not a pure coincidence. A have had the new spring laying around for six months and I got the inspiration to finally change it after I saw your post. An easy three minute job, should have done it sooner.

I also rebuilt the carbs, turned the front swaybar links so that they are in the correct position, installed a period Blaupunkt with an aux-in cable and bled the clutch. I also noticed that one of the rear wheel bearing I changed last summer already has play and that the driver's front corner is 11 mm higher that the other side. So next on the to-do list is a new rear wheel bearing, rotation of the front torsion bar by 7 grooves and maybe ball joints for the front caster bars.

I do mostly highway where the troopers and officers run radar and it's awesome. If you are in the city or any place they are using the laser gun, invest in a laser jammer.

Rain, snow, and power cuts put Car House behind schedule this weekend, but it did get some wrap and the framing for most of the storage loft. Those vertical 2x4s are just for temporary supports, of course -- we've already replaced the first one with a PT 4x4 bolted down to the pad. We're going to continue the floor all the way to the back wall, and likely across the back and over the door at the front, too.

The plan is storage across most of it, and a little den in the far corner for my son to make a hideout. He wants a rope ladder and trapdoor for access, and hidden compartments in the walls. Underneath will be workbenches down the side, and potentially making a sort of T shape with an arm extending out to that support beam which'll be right about where my friend is standing in that picture. I think I'll also put my air compressor up in the loft and run a switch down to somewhere reachable. Tool storage is probably going to be along the back wall about where the stack of siding is.

I changed my approach to the 1985 RX-7 make-go project. Instead of bang my head on sorting out what hydraulic hoses and brake balance parts I need to install the GSL rear end on my GS and fighting stuck bolts to do it, I am going to hook everything up and drop it down on the peg-leg axle and break the engine in that way mostly because I just want to drive it.

Bolted the exhaust manifold to the wee 12a and found the engine mount nuts I forgot to put on when I put the engine in.

I also discovered that I need a battery to get past the fuel door. '80s electrical fuel door access, oh no! I think that'll get replaced by a keyed manual door even if it's a little uglier.

I initially avoided the issues many other people have had with Jeep's recall on the late-model Grand Cherokees. No more; went to shift into 4Lo this morning and it's exhibiting exactly the symptoms Chrysler claims are not caused by the recall (but that they have a STAR case open for, are frequently goodwilling repairs for, and have indirectly said are caused by the recall).

I tried to change the fuel filter on my cobalt. I watched a video, and it's apparently a 15 minute job, but not for me! It's got these quick release clips on two of the lines, and a line disconnect on the other. I couldn't budge the first of the two lines with the quick release clips, and after getting extremely pissed, I decided to try again another day. I think there's just a bunch of dirt in them. I changed a front hub the other day no problem, but this god drat filter stumps me. Son of a bitch.

Partially installed Ground Control coilovers on my 1996 e36 M3. This is the first car I've bought out of college and I'm hell bent on doing as much work as possible on my own. I've never touched or really even looked at a suspension setup but I looked up some videos and guides and decided to take a stab at it.

Ended up shearing the driver side front sway bar end link bolt that connects to the strut housing as it was pretty drat stuck. Ended up leaving the sway bar disconnected on one side and calling it a weekend as I have to do all the work at my parents 4 hours away. Going back this weekend with new adjustable front sway bar end links to fix up the front and then finish installing the rear springs/strut.

They're quick-connect... but not quick-disconnect. Much like those bastard spring hose clamps, they are meant to make assembling the car take less time the first time, in exchange for being a loving pain in the rear end forevermore.

Ripped off the lower front air...thingy (diffuser, dam, deflector?) in front of my left wheel. It was hanging on by a plastic rivet while the rest is supposed to sit flush with the front bumper piece. It's annoying to fit back in place and it never stays there for long anyways, plus the right one got scraped off on a dip or speed bump or something somewhere years ago. Figured I might as well make it symmetrical once and for all.

Installed the shifter in my RX-7 and spent 10 minutes snicking it through the gears and making brap brap rotary noises... up on jack stands.

Tried to do the front brake pads but the lower caliper bolts are buried behind strut mount and I didn't have a wrench or socket that will fit. I have a new wrench set now so getting the old pads out and seeing if the brake pistons will budge is my plan for tonight. The little vents on the dust covers for the brakes are cool, I didn't realize they had them on this car.

I love how little body rust this car has, but the brake and rear axle fasteners are all pretty stuck.

(and can't post for 11 years!)

Made an appointment for those awesome GM recalls.

Local Chevy dealer said they expect to have parts on April 8th. Service advisor said they can knock out both the ignition switch and power steering motor in about 2 hours :stare: - and they'll be giving me a loaner too. :stonklol:

That's a really nice switch from my last dealer service department experience (Toyota dealer) - where they wouldn't commit to how long repairs would take, and laughed when we asked about a loaner (most of it was warranty work). The only other dealer service department I've had experience with was CarMax; they gave me a loaner, but couldn't tell me if it'd be an hour or a week for warranty work (took about 36 hours).

edit: well that's a new avatar isn't it

Rather than go to the expense of swapping motors, this dude I've been buying parts from has offered to arrange a car exchange.

It wasn't too hard. Started with this adapter from the G1W dashcam.

And this wiring kit that came with my new Valentine 1.

And I picked this up at Autozone for $6.

I split this dude open for it's board. As it converts 12vdc to 5vdc, which is what the G1W wants.

I cut the wires that interfaced with the cigarette adapter and extended them by soldering longer wire to them. Then I shrinktubed them. I love shrink tubing.

I wanted to keep the board protected, but didn't want the awkward shaped cigarette adapter shoved somewhere up the dash. So I cut the penis off it.

Then I put the board back inside the adapter body with the new leads hanging out the penis hole and hot glued the gently caress out of it.

Then I started splicing the leads together and to the fuse adapter picked up at Autozone. Again I soldered and shrink tubed everything. I like to double up my shrink tubing when I can. Seems to give more protection.

After doing the same to the ground leads, I had this.

I found a switched fuse in the Sportwagen fusebox and I found the fusebox mounting screws were a good source of ground. Hooked everything up to test, then hid the wires up the a-pillar and tucked into the headliner. They drop out at the rearview. Excess wire is shoved into the dash behind the fuse box. There isn't much of it. All my funky wiring is behind there too. Only the long leads come out the fusebox. You can't even see them.
