Steelseries Rival is a massive mouse and really good (I think a lot of pro players use it now -- only came out toward the end of last year).

I don't see why they couldn't just add another ticker 'obscene spray' to the report menu and be done with it. Make it so you buy sprays just like nametags and can only attach one image per spray. You gently caress that up then you lose your spray privileges.

I'm not gay, but $20 is $20.
Mouse talk:
The minimum DPI for any sens setting required to prevent pixel skipping is pretty low. Anything DPI above that number doesn't improve "accuracy". The formula for 4:3 resolutions (I don't know what the formula is for 16:9 or 16:10, but you can probably find them with google) is: [(Vertical pixels at in-game resolution) x 2.667] / [(inches per 360) / 2] = (Necessary DPI to avoid pixel skipping)

So for example, I run at 1280x1024 and about a 20 inch/360. Using the formula, I know that so long as my mouse is running at at least 273.1 DPI, I'm not missing out on anything in terms of accuracy.

Mice failure rates (jitter, tracking errors) also increase at higher DPI settings (which makes sense, they're taking more measurements) but you probably won't notice any issues on most sensors unless you're using the highest couple of increments.

TL;DR: So long as you're using the kind of inch/360 setting that likes to get promoted in this thread (15+), it doesn't really matter. Use whatever feels good on the desktop and adjust your in-game sens to compensate. If you use a bullshit low inch/360, crank the DPI up and look out for tracking errors.

They'd basically have to disable sprays in competitive, or lock down sprays ala gun stickers to a few approved designs. Otherwise we end up back in "lol I have a spray that looks like a terrorist holding an awp" which admittedly would be a lot of fun in goonmans.

Getting in on this mouse chat, I recently realized that my mouse sensor has quite a bit of built in acceleration. I'd like to get a mouse that is accel free but I really like the shape of my mouse, especially the contoured right side finger rest. I've been flipping through newegg but haven't seen anything that has grabbed me. Any ideas?

That's what I thought as well but I noticed that placing the mouse on a track with a hard stop and going out quickly and back in slowly I don't make it to the same point where as I return to the original position if I go in and out at the same speed.I think that this means there is accel in the sensor? I have raw input on in csgo and accel off in the mouse config utility.

The internet says it uses the exact same sensor as the Logitech MX518, a relatively well respected mouse. Also a far better known mouse, so you can find loads more info about it if you cared. MX518 is notorious for having in-built smoothing, so you should find it quite easy to draw straight lines on MS Paint or whatever.

Also, raw input would not somehow circumvent negative acceleration if a sensor had it.

e: I'm incorrect, it uses the ADNS-3060 not the ADNS-3080 as in the MX518. They are pretty similar though.

See if you can get your hands on a Storm Spawn to mess with a bit and find out if it feels good. I'm pretty sure it's shorter length-wise than your Naos, but it's got the ring finger rest. It's also generally considered to be the best A3090 sensor implementation, which is itself generally considered to be the best sensor on the market.

Mionix is getting a bunch of attention recently on the mouse nerd forum I read specifically because they're so much more comfortable than all the other stuff on the market. So you're going to have a hard time finding something with the same feel, especially with a really good sensor in there, unfortunately.

I ordered the non-Spawn version of the CM Storm (Xornet) since I claw grip. Read the Xornet uses the A3050 as opposed to the A3090 in the Spawn. Guessing the only difference between those two is DPI levels?

3090 is a more premium sensor, so the tracking quality is better.

Makes sense. I got the Xornet mainly because it has a 1000 DPI setting, which I've been using for years, so I figured I can go back to that if I find playing at 500 or 2000 feels too wonky for me.

Presumably if you get out of silver the experience improves, but hey guess what? It's officially no longer worth it to get out of silver. I'll stick to Demolition and maybe Casual, which manage to consistently generate interesting matches despite/thanks to their complete lack of ranks.

Casual is terrible. Sure competitive has its share of smurfs and hackers but it's still the only official gamemode where you get the real CS experience. I've had plenty of lovely games but getting to silver elite master is really pretty easy and so far getting to gold IV hasn't been too difficult either.

And I'm really not a good player, in fact I'm poo poo. I think you probably just had some bad luck with matchmaking. It all evens out.

Hi I am completely new to this game but it was on sale and looked cool so I bought it.
I will try out the idea of maybe a 10-inch 360 to ease into the idea of low sensitivity, but my mousepad is real small. How much space in terms of a mousepad do you guys think is important for this game? I have a logitech G400 which has this like adjsutable DPI thing, so I keep it at 800 DPI, which the sensitivity tool implies I should pair with an ingame sensitivity of 2. I guess if it's not sensitive enough I can just turn it up, but I wanted some input.
Also, are demolition/arms race fun? I kind of want to try the game and get a feel for the weapons without needing to commit to a 45 minute match. It's mostly the length of competitive mode that I think is a potential issue.

You really don't need *that* much space. Most of the time you're moving your cursor only a few pixels because you should already have it near where an enemy could be. Deathmatch is going to allow that dynamic to play out fully but whatever. Just start playing and figure it out as you go.

Read the OP it's got lots of great info for new players, play some Valve deathmatch and the other modes to get a very basic feel for the game. Try out the in-game matchmaking once you feel comfortable, don't worry about doing well or ruining the games because after a few you'll be placed with people around your skill level.

e: starting off with a high inches/360 will help you a lot against the other players you'll face.

-One of those mousepads thats roughly a square foot should be plenty. Like this
-Arms race is fun for just dicking around and not caring. As a beginner it'll also be a great way to get accustomed to how all the different guns handle, how 1v1 firefights typically go down, and best of all it's really fast paced so you don't have to sit and wait for 3 minutes for being killed for reasons you don't understand.
-Once you've got that down demo is a good mode for adding teammate positioning and broader tactics to your situational awareness.

If you want to really experience CS for what it's known for then I wouldn't spend more than a few days on either of these modes. Arms race just long enough to realize the guns don't handle like most other games and demolition just long enough to realize that there are consequences to dying / to pick your fights. After that I'd jump right into matchmaking and have fun.
