I got two rock brides on my lastest run. Sadly neither Ariadne were all that special; one became my pilot and the other a boarder when I stupidly lost my mantis on Crystal B. Victory on hard.

Has anyone recruited Kazaakplethkilik yet, and does he have good skills?

I'm playing Zoltan B and in the 3rd sector. Just picked up a halberd beam. Should I use that or the pike beam? I added 1 to the weapons system because I also have an ion bomb I've yet to need.

Edit: Just got a heavy Ion too :v:. Not sure which weapons to use

That used to happen to my screenshots back when I used a program called F.lux, which dims the screen during evening hours and supposedly helps you sleep.

I finally got my first win but it felt pretty cheap considering I used the Federation Cruiser with the alternate unlock that I mentioned on the last page. The artillery beam is pretty crazy.

They're pretty much a gigantic reference to The Shrike from Hyperion, so spikes everywhere. Sadly their racial abilities don't match, but I guess letting them control spacetime and cut ships in half with their claws might be a bit too strong :v:

Came so close to my first victory on normal iPad. Zoltan A, three Flak I and a chain laser. Unfortunately there were no repair stations so I had to go into stage 2 and 3 with red health. Managed stage 2 but stage 3 was just too much, though I still managed to get the flagship down to about 5 health. :negative:

Wow, the Federation Cruiser's C layout is a mobile bloodbath. Every game I've played with it so far is a series of clones running to the teleporter so they can die again, while missiles slowly chip away at the ship.

Fun fact about the clone bay: the reincarnation skill loss in hand-to-hand is either equal to or slightly less than the amount of skill gained by teleporting your guy into an auto-drone's oxygenless rooms and bashing on the system continuously until they asphyxiate. So with clone bay, there's no reason not to send your boarding party into certain death.

I just had a game where a Rockman made the hall of fame with eighteen skill masteries, all from maxing out his hand-to-hand, losing a bit of skill on death, and then maxing out again from breaking enemy ship systems until his next demise.

How do I win a game? On easy I've gotten to the boss ship in two runs out of 10 or so, but once I get there its second form is just so full of DPS. I got the Kestrel there today with max reactor upgrades and max weapon upgrades, sold a hull laser 1 to make room for a good weapon and... the stores didn't have any weapons. I couldn't do enough damage with my burst laser and heavy laser. Should have had a 3rd weapon!

Maxed out engines and piloting. Which means he got stuck in my engine room while me real mantises murdered everything.

I had a blast with Reconstructive Teleport, a maxed teleporter, and maxed mind control this morning. MC the pilot, board weapons and bomb the medbay.

Easiest way to win is to teleport people into the boss weapons. Kill all but 1 person (or else AI takes over) and then just murder the ship with your TP crew.

A bad third weapon is better than no third. Did you not come across any stores or did you have too few scrap for some 'ideal' weapons?

I got him, you need an 'advanced clone bay'. He showed up with gold pilot skill for me so I had to dismiss him (already had gold pilot, already had 4 mantis boarders etc.)

I don't use missiles too often because of the limited ammo, but if you can't get a good number of lasers or flak guns you should strongly consider picking up a missile or bomb for the capital ship because 4 shield bubbles + dodge needs a ton of shooting per volley to batter down.

Gotcha.

The update sure shakes things up in the boss fight. Phase 2 was by far the easiest (thank you anti-drone drone) and phase 1 and 3 terrifying as I had to deal with shields being hacked and my mantises being mind controlled. I'm glad Robert "the human" Smith survived to be a hero of the Federation like he always wanted.

Swarm missile and Chain ion are great. Has anyone had a multi-charge weapon and a preigniter and does it charge it fully or just the first shot?

Victory with Mantis B :toot:

Phase 1 of the boss was an enormous stalemate until I realized that just because my teleporter has 4 slots, it doesn't mean I should limit myself to having 4 boarders. Sent over another two boarders and I actually got the upper hand.

Has anybody else noticed some particularly nice balance changes? The Anti-ion augment was mentioned earlier.

I was pleased to see Autopilot get a strong boost (50%/80% evasion instead of 25%/50%). Now it might actually be feasible to abandon piloting more often, especially on the Engi B. Mantis and Crystal B get unneeded boosts from that too, though.

The teleporter price going up ($75 to $90) has caught me by surprise - not a huge difference, but you're a bit more likely to have to sell something to buy it early.

I lost my old saves so I'm starting off from scratch on hard mode. I made it to sector 6 but didn't do so well on a couple of engagements and lost most of my crew. Going through a Mantis sector with 2 crew doesn't end well.

Slugs now see a silhouette of the enemy instead of a dot, making them almost as good as level 2 sensors. Really useful when you're in a nebula and thinking about boarding.

E: I think the biggest balance change is the rebel fleet taking pot shots at you. I now let those last nodes go rather than face the fleet. One time before the expansion and before showing next hops was enabled by default I had this happen to me:

The thought of backtracking through that now...

That was a really frustrating run. Mantis A with maxed out energy, teleporter, mind control and hacking device, along with a Flak II, Burst Laser 3 and Swarm missile launcher and a clone bay. Practically a perfect setup for crippling the boss and out-damaging it on phase 3. But the path to the boss involved me hopping through pretty much every single rebel-controlled spot in sector 8 just to get there in time, and I didn't even survive stage 1.

Holy hell, flak is really, really strong. This was on hard difficulty.

First wave, mothership only got to cloak once.
Second wave, I blew it up mid-drone attack.
Third wave, it only got to shoot the superweapon once.

The rest of my ship is actually pretty weak, but I had an auto-reloader and a weapons preigniter. I had only collected 1746 scrap by the end of the run, a fairly low amount.

edit: may as well post this one too, this was on normal.

this one took about 45 minutes between the three waves, and the only reason I won is because I had a handful of missiles.

Yeah this change really affected how I play the game. Prior to this patch, fighting the rebels was really a no brainer depending on your setup. If you had cloak and a decent engine level, they could barely get a round off before you had the chance to warp away. Now, I try to avoid facing them at all costs.
