Nirvana is cool and good, but your combination of 1) moaning about standard record prices 2) bragging about the size of your collection 3) chasing deals on pedestrian indie rock LPs at places like Sears or Best Buy 4) whinging about hipstersss - that does make you a bit funny. For content, I paid 45e for a dad punk LP, but oh well, the guy I bought it from plays in like five really good bands and was skint, so it was for a good cause.

Yeah that's right, we only found out though because one of us met a bloke who works there down the pub, up until then I'd not paid much attention to the signs on the door (let alone 'classic shags'). It's worth a little look, but don't expect anything new or particularly rare, it's just odd little bits and pieces that they've usually picked up from the car boot at the racecourse sat next to the giant dildos.

I just got the new Beck album and it was 27 bucks. I know smaller labels are better about this, the issue is mainly with big labels. The most recent Flaming Lips album was so over priced it was actually cheaper for me to order the UK version and pay to have it shipped to America.

I'm going to a wild stab here but they are pricing it higher do to the fact that there is more demand for vinyl then there used to be back several years ago. Price changes with demand and what people are willing to pay.

I dunno. I'd lean in that direction as well, especially since the machines are getting older (and harder to repair) while at the same time fewer (highly trained) people even know how to handle the production process. Then again, there's a lot of lovely pressings despite the price hike, which kind of tells me that the pressing companies don't give a poo poo about badly maintained machines and sloppy workers because fixing either of these - or simply introducing better QA - costs money. Either way, I wouldn't call it price gouging. As much as we all love music, no one needs records. I just wish more labels would do it like Relapse: The limited edition of the new Red Fang album for $45 was ridiculous, but they also had a regular, no frills edition for $16 (since I'm European, I'm also always bummed out when they just convert $1 to 1€, but that's a give at this point).

Hello thread, I don't know if this will be of any value to any of you, but Vinyl Me Please is going to be giving away three exclusively pressed albums starting May for their subscribers. I don't know what they are, but their tastes are always pretty great, so it'd jump on it if you have $20-40 to spare these next few months.

The problem is they aren't growing the market. If new music was more affordable in this format people would gradually convert. CD is the dying format. Eventually flash memory will completely negate the need for music cds. Honestly if people didn't cling to archaic technology(oh the irony) Then cds would already be gone. More people would move to vinyl if they just had to have physical retail releases of their favorite bands if it didnt cost 10$+ more than CDs. (opinion)

Vinyl is the only sub-set of the music industry that's experiencing growth year over year, so greed and labels' bottom line have a lot to do with it. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that all the soundtracks of my youth are coming back to haunt us. (I actually have this one in my car at all times in case of emergency nostalgia.) What's next, Batman Forever? Sadly the Dumb & Dumber release also doesn't include this gem... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZzBd41NuZw ...or this jewel. It would not matter if they were five bucks and you got a handjob, people are not going to jump all over vinyl. Vinyl is inconvenient compared to my phone/ipod/new toberlone thing from Niel Young. Yeah, its growing. Because vinyl is no longer a completely 100% losing venture like it was a couple of years ago. Record stores were going out of business, no one was seriously cutting records for their releases like they are now. Records were cheaper because NO ONE WAS BUYING THEM!
