Also, the chinese are innately inferior in every way and belligerent toward glorious Nippon. The author has some serious issues.

I watched the first ep and thought it seemed kinda bland and stereotypically Light Novelly in terms of harem building, imouto weirdness, totally overpowered main character who's hiding his power level and will probably never encounter actual difficulty during the story and so forth. Then I read this whole weird Nationalistic angle plus my roommate told me that the sister was described in the LN as "as a lovely, beautiful girl who captivates whoever sets their eyes on her. Her arms and legs are slim, slender without looking unhealthy." So yeah, typical otaku power fantasy show coupled with typical unrealistically (literally, SLIM WITHOUT LOOKING UNHEALTHY) beautiful little sister who is wildly in love with the main character.

If I wasn't aware this was based off a generic LN I would have assumed this show would be a setup for a magical high school anime that turns really dark when the sister gets all yandere on the main character and starts straight up murdering the rest of the harem so he only has eyes for her. Of course, that would pull in a totally different and arguably worse fanbase so I'm not sure if that would be an improvement.

The Cart Driver blog suggested that it's best to pretend that the main character is actually Sakamoto. I sort of agree, taking that angle actually makes it tolerable.

So is there some kind of story behind Majin Bone? I find it difficult to believe that it was produced in 2014.

It has the guy that did One Punch Man doing the character designs, and according to some rumors - he's going to be doing key animation for the show as well, and the director did work on Kamen Rider.

It's also probably unironically, the best shounen show this season.

Which one? ONE or Murata?

Murata. He did the original character designs, not the anime adapted character designs, and the chances of him doing KA are pretty slim.

It's Kaiji, but all of the drama and life threatening grimness is replaced with fanservice and fantasy.

There's a panty flash of the 11 year old little sister who is a little too attached to her older brother and the episode ends with a buxom anime girl with only a sheet to hide her shame asking to come into the room that the two main characters are sleeping in.

So a little ecchi, but calling it ecchi at this point would make Kill La Kill look like porn.

Just watch an episode and then judge it based on its actual merits and not what some dork on MAL tagged it as.

It is OK to like "ecchi" anims.

(It's not ok to like anims that sexualise children though)

Don't forget that the 2 second preview shows him squeezing her gigantic boobs, and that there doesn't seem to be a single male character apart from the protagonist. This is gonna get skeevy as hell.

Ironically, the MC's VA is the same as Kirito from SAO.

Anyway, most LNs not explicitly targeted towards women are going to end up like this in one way or another. I guess like everyone else I'll keep watching as long as it stays as Brother & Sister Go To The Cheating Olympics and the skeeviness levels remain tolerable.

It's gonna get pretty drat skeevy. I was tempted to write up a trip report of the first volume for anyone who was curious, but got lazy. Haven't seen the episode yet, but I have mixed feelings on the original story overall, since the game elements are interesting in that game logic kind of manner, and the fact that the main character is a self-aware lovely person has potential for growth. The fact that the two of them basically become unable to function when they're separated since they're both terrified of society can be interesting to look into if the story goes that route. But of course, there are quite a few troubling aspects as will be seen in the next few episodes which might put it into terrible territory, such as the siblings' relationship, the main character causing someone to fall in love with love with him against her will (she becomes a tsundere and it's played for laughs, but I'm sure everyone can read the unfortunate implications), and the fanservicey parts. I'm still undecided if the pros can match the cons, but yeah lots of troubling aspects here.

Soul Eater Not

Coffin Princess
Only seen part one but this is really interesting with the steampunk magic with the camera scope sniper rifles and such.

No Game No Life Looks exactly like the kind of show where the first episode is good enough to keep people watching longer then they should. It was reasonably enjoyable by itself but it will probably go downhill fast. I'll probably let it be unless people are really liking it later on.

I'm weirdly reluctant to watch this just because I have Atelier Ayesha in my game backlog and probably won't get to it anytime soon. It's not like there's ever been a good video game adaption anyways.

Black Bullet Is indeed absurdly generic and dumb. Staying far away.

I was originally slightly interested in Soul Eater Not despite having watched, like, two episodes ever of Soul Eater but the early reports sound bleh, so probably not.

This season really blows. Hopefully Coffin Princess doesn't disappoint.

Edit: Ok, Coffin Princess at least is pretty good. I'm up to three shows this season that seem watchable.

No Game, No Life is only going on for 12 episodes, right? I don't think there's enough time for any notable character development. I'm definitely watching it all the way through. I was going to complain about the gratuitous panty shots on the 11 year old, but then they went out of their way to show you old-guy-rear end-clenching and I decided to stop caring. Series is definitely :japan: as hell.

Chaika the Coffin Princess is definitely the best techno-wizard show this season. Partially due to the magic users actually being called wizards for once. Brynhildr and The Irregular are going to have to step up their games if they don't want to be out-wizarded. Even still, I have a feeling Chaika could get a bit boring after a few episodes, so hopefully it stays decent.

Scrapped Princess stayed relatively interesting throughout, but not without a few lapses. Chaika had a stronger start, so hopefully it'll stay consistently better.
