Sephiroth_IRA posted:The ACA or the exchanges? "Since it took full effect". I'm not sure what that means since I wouldn't have considered "full effect" until the mandate deadline arrived, but I'll assume they include Medicaid expansion and the exchanges. The range cited in the article refers to a drop in uninsured since September 2013, which is well after the 26-y.o. exemption went in.

Bob Kerrey is a child murderer. Gingrich and his mistresses. Clinton is a well respected elder statesman. Naked bribery all over the place (do you really think Sheldon Anderson is worried about kids being exposed to gambling instead of competition, or Thomas forgot that 750k?). Clinton is the exception because unlike the others he wasn't a member of the Moral Crusaders for Morality (or whatever the hell the various "family values" groups have called themselves throughout the decades) for his entire political career. What he did was lovely, yes, if you're Hillary Clinton, but the Republican witch hunt that resulted was completely uncalled for on every level. Sephiroth_IRA posted:The ACA or the exchanges? I figured that number would be higher due to people <= 26 being able to get on their parents plan. If that's the same study I saw things about yesterday, it's a combination of new employer-based enrollment, the exchanges, and Medicaid enrollments. It's actually a really interesting figure, because their numbers on the exchanges and Medicaid are well below what's been reported elsewhere, and the biggest part of their number is from people who were previously uninsured who were offered employer-based coverage and took it.

I know Joe posted a link yesterday about Holder losing his patience with the 'honorable gentleman from Texas', Louie Gohmert. The video that circulated about the exchange apparently did not contain Holder's final remark. Holder Plays Asparagus Card Against GOP Antagonist quote:After a testy exchange Tuesday with Rep. Louis Gohmert, a Texas Republican who had clearly gotten on his last nerve, Holder delivered a dose of ridicule.

He probably heard it from whoever beats him in the head with a hammer every day, thought it was a funny turn of phrase, and decided to blurt it at the attorney general. Problem is that his hammer-wielding gimp master was fielding a bit of gastronomic criticism from the wife regarding his failure at properly cooking the otherwise delightful vegetable in question. She'd yelled down into the basement about how the asparagus was a lovely, lemony-peppery mush and the gimp, taking offense, insisted she not cast aspersions on his asparagus. Gohmert, as he had not yet received the first of his nightly concussions, was lucid enough to overhear. It was literally aspersions being cast upon a man's asparagus, but Gohmert took it as a euphemism (that bastard burns my grits/grinds my gears/throws shade) because he's a loving idiot. Alternatively he believes he is literally a plate of asparagus and refers to himself in the self-possessive second vegetable. When he said "my asparagus" he meant himself.

Boy, "The Civil War Was About States Rights, Not Slavery" is getting long in the tooth. How can we being new life to Southern righteousness, denigrate "big government", and bring religion into it? http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/jim-demint-asserts-federal-government-played-no-role-freeing-slaves Jim Demint posted:Well the reason that the slaves were eventually freed was the Constitution, it was like the conscience of the American people. Unfortunately there were some court decisions like Dred Scott and others that defined some people as property, but the Constitution kept calling us back to ‘all men are created equal and we have inalienable rights’ in the minds of God. But a lot of the move to free the slaves came from the people, it did not come from the federal government. It came from a growing movement among the people, particularly people of faith, that this was wrong. People like Wilberforce who persisted for years because of his faith and because of his love for people. So no liberal is going to win a debate that big government freed the slaves. In fact, it was Abraham Lincoln, the very first Republican, who took this on as a cause and a lot of it was based on a love in his heart that comes from God.
