Which speciality CT? I'm a NAT CTR, and I've had similar problems since my first drill last December. I'm currently working on the ability to drill with another unit, but so far my reservist career has consisted entirely of sitting in a classroom on drill weekends and doing NKO or other trainings. So much fun, especially after training, which I genuinely enjoyed.

Being in for such a short time, I can't really give much advice, however: if you receive any sort of email about a IDCR command newcomer orientation, GO TO THAT. I just went to one at the end of last month in San Diego, and not only did I learn a lot about the reserves I hadn't been told yet, I was given contact information for a unit near my location so I could attempt to set up arrangements to drill with them. I am not certain of when they have these events, but I definitely recommend attending one as soon as possible.

CTT! I think there's an orientation next month, plan on going.

LCAC'n into the sunset sounds pretty rad but I know Navy will suck all joy out of it. When doing stuff like that, if you have any chance, get some pictures so you can look at them years later and forget the unpleasant parts

Nah, they just made it mandatory so no matter how much we make fun of it we still have to get it. No one really takes it seriously unless they are hair deep in the kool aid.

Hartford 768 boat.

I lost most of my pics in a HD crash, which sucks. I had a few pretty good vids of dolphins jumping in front of the boat I wish I'd saved.

I can't find anything that says they're anything other than restricted line officers as normal.

EDIT: they did change the designators of everyone in the ID corps, but they are still restricted line.

I was supposed to go to Hartford back in 08 off of limdu, but when dental signed my sheet, they didnt use the tooth stamp and so PSD would not avail me for orders til the next day. In that day, they gave my orders to someone else. That guy's first underway was the collision.

It was put out as factual by the IDC regional commander, but on further googling I'm seeing that it's been "right around the corner" for like 5 years now so

Which is why it's dumb as hell. The reasoning is that we need to start thinking of information space as its own warfare area, that the URL types in charge of things don't give enough weight to non-kinetic options because they aren't "real" fighting. However that really only applies to the IW and maybe IP officers (I'm not really sure what those guys really do) but lol @ those guys filling command at sea billets. So after seeing that "it's really gonna happen" since at least 2011, I'll bet that the Tenth Fleet folks will continue to push it and the URL brass will continue to say no.

I agree with the sentiment that we need to start thinking of the information domain as an important warfare area, but yeah. There is no way in God's green Earth that I would ever trust an IDW officer with a command at sea job.

Alternatively, is there a way to send letters to someone stationed at a base without knowing their specific address? Same friend didn't give me one before leaving, and assuming she's OK (I hope :smith:), is there a generic address to send one to that just gets sorted out?

If you know their command, I highly recommend the OPNAV 5400: The Short-Name Distribution List (SNDL). You just put their name instead of the Commanding Officer's, of course, and it goes directly to their Admin Office.

There was an initiative a year or two back, right when all the IDC designators were being rolled together into the 1800 series and single competitive category to reclassify them as URL vice RL. However, after CNO review of the proposal packages, he agreed to the single competitive category and designator series, but tabled the URL redesignation for later consideration. Since then, I don't think there has been any significant effort to revive the shift.

I pulled strings to get a maneuvering watch spot up in the sail as a phone talker, so I was up there all the time. Qualified lookout, just for laughs, when the Navy thought we needed to double up up there for force protection; I got my qual card signed complete on the way up the ladder and we promptly drove into a mountain we didn't see. :v:

I convinced my RCLPO that he should qualify Maneuvering phone talker (since I was maneuvering OOD), then also convinced him to spend his midwatches memorizing the Rules of the Road so he could bash our terrible lookouts. Always a good time with RC div in the bridge.
