Whatever about the decision,I hope Goode is okay. Pienaar's shoulder is in bits,I'll be surprised if he lasts this half.

Burgo posted:Which is ridiculous, you can't upgrade a card based on the injury. I don't mean that the ref looked at Goode on the floor and thought "oh, better make that a red", just that if he'd popped back up, the ref might've thought that it wasn't that dangerous. I thought Paynes eyes went down right at the end, and if you don't jump for a ball like that, you're always in danger of undercutting someone really dangerously. There's gonna be more cards in this.

Yeah it's looking a bit bad tempered, can Pienaar get a cortisone shot at half time? Looks like he needs it. Ashton has scored that exact try countless times, and I hate it more and more every time.

Holy poo poo, that Jackson turnover was great. I hope this game doesn't become all sensible and 'northern hemisphere' after halftime.

If he'd also jumped for the ball, it would have been a normal mid-air collision and nobody would have batted an eye.

peter banana posted:drat that was unlucky for Ulster. It's hard not to be disappointed as an Ulster fan and it was a commendable performance staying within 3 points after being a man down for so long but it'd be nice to win something too. This year was probably Ulsters best chance to do well in Europe, with an unbeaten qualifying round and a squad that's only getting weaker next season with the departures of Afoa, Court and Muller. They fought up until the very end, but it still wasn't enough. C'mon Leinster and BOD I guess?

They tried to do something, you could see they were trying but they were rattled by dropped balls and they let themselves get pushed around at the ruck. Ah well. I'm living in Cork at the moment so gently caress it 'on Munster.

Looking at that, absolutely no problem with the red card. It's reckless, clumsy and dangerous, and has no place in the game. The only issue would be intent, but that's something for the judiciary.

An almost identical incident occurred in a Super Rugby match last year and there was nothing given for it.In fact,it's happened a few times over the last few years and each time there was a different punishment given so the IRB needs to set out a strict rule on it.There's no point leaving it down to the referees' interpretation, because then you get referees like Garces who want to make a name for themselves by making a big call. To be clear,I do think it was stupid and reckless, but there's stupid and reckless play all the time in rugby that often only results in penalties (clearing out lifters at a lineout, diving into rucks without binding like Burger did later on in the Ulster match).I just think there needs to be consistency with the calls.

I can only assume he didn't even take at quick look at where he was running. He's run straight into him, so it's not even like he's misjudged an attempt to get right up there and wrap him once he lands, or pulled out of a jumping take himself. It's a dangerous lack of awareness. The poo poo people do in lineouts, especially taking out the lifters, is generally more malicious.

The diving head first into rucks is the next thing which should be sanctioned out of the game I think. It's ridiculous and someone is going to get very seriously hurt if they allow it to carry on.

It is also clearly negligent and suuuper dangerous. It's not as much a question of punishing this incident as a question of demonstrating why players must actively avoid doing this in the future.

West country derby is currently 12 v 14. Five yellows and a red. It's not even been a particularly dirty game, just a bit of undercutting in the lineout and high tackling.
