Yeah copped this before I'd even listened to all the samples. Between me and a mate we got both volumes on wax. So, so good. Dubstep is at it's best when it's lines are heavily blurred with reggae in my opinion.

Probably preaching to the choir, but anyone here use DnR Vinyl? Excellent stock of UKG and all that good stuff. https://www.dnrvinyl.co.uk

DnR Vinyl was the only place I could find my sweet white label Kromestar remix of Mavado - Dying. Great selection.

DnR has been about for ages and is pretty legit. Still think sometimes there prices can be too high, though that is compared to Discogs and some other second hand places. But they do have their own range of exclusive represses though that I think are above board. Maybe? It is garage so probably best not to look too closely at it.

An easy and cheap way to get a lot of those Ice Cream/RIP cuts on the cheap though. The first volume especially is loaded with classics you're never gonna get on an original pressing for less than like £25-30+.

They're catalog is filled with some seriously solid releases. As well as a few brostep reggae bangers for your friends who aren't deep heads. Checkout The Rootstepa, Dancehall rock, as well as Radikal Guru's latest album Subconscious on moonshine. Probably my favorite reggae influenced dubstep label next to lion charge. Who if you haven't heard they're latest release is banging.

edit:

on another note, the cult 002.5 release finally got into most peoples hands today as well as mine. Actress' remix is pretty slick as well as silverlinks, haven't really listened to the play fights vip yet but from the 30 seconds i got into it, its got some grime influences. The blocks & escher remix is pretty much exactly like the radio leak but with an extra minute of cool stuff on it.

Yeah I did wonder how legit some of the stuff was when I found 'Stone Cold' for a much more reasonable price than anywhere else. To be honest i'm pretty new to vinyl collecting so i'm not really up on what's a repress etc, etc. I was just loving glad to get that tune!

Just as a wee thing that might be of interest to folk, it was mentioned in the Jungle thread about Ibiza Records old Hardcore Garage series from the year 2000. A nice little set of three singles that, along with the likes of 138 Trek and the early Ghost releases, would point towards what the future of UK Garage was.

Anyway they used to be on Youtube, then they weren't, but now they are again... or will be when I can actually find my copies. I know I've got at least two out of the three, maybe even all three but so far all I've found is the first release with the blue label. It's been hammered pretty heavily over the last 15 years so apologies for the sound. If you're wanting a nice crystal clear, pristine rip you'll need to go find a good copy and do it yourself.

Dunno if anyone cares but I'll probably start doing some dubstep updates here and there with the fresh releases. I follow the reggae influenced scene pretty hard but I also follow most of the big labels.

J.Robinson is coming out with a fresh label called WhoDemSound with some pretty solid reggae influenced dubstep releases. Here is the preview.
https://soundcloud.com/jrobinson/whodem001-whodemsound-a-lazy

Innamind just announced on their Facebook a release from LAS whose been putting out some highly praised tracks lately. It's claimed to be a 2x12 inch release on 180gram vinyl which I assume will sell out very quickly in all stores.

DJ Madd also released a 7" on ZAMZAM that is very dub. I'd consider checking it out if you like those vibes.
http://www.redeyerecords.co.uk/vinyl/51916-ZAMZAM18-dj-madd-7

Also hotline did a repress of Commodo's gently caress mountain which is a really solid release and has an awesome promo video.

This is what I'm talking about :

Paper Diamond & LOUDPVCK - Wylin
BARE - HVM
Diplo & GTA - Boy Oh Boy (THUGLI Remix)

Cheers!

Thelem's release on Artikal is pretty hot. It's titled haunted harmonics and is getting a lot of praise around the web.

If you didn't already know. Hyperdub 10 year compilation coming out with all the fresh tunes being put on vinyl.

Check out the previews on redeye. A1 & B1 are big.

Some fresh lion charge that's hand stamped vinyl, sold out in pre order across the web.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FeuAdOcd0E

Also I've been looking at this label called 45seven who've been putting out some reggae influenced 7" release. A couple are dub oriented and some are drum and bass but they're pretty slick.
Flatliners & Mr Foul - Jah Victory
Danjah Wise

Next Tempa release(089) is supposed to be Nomine, hoping its somewhat like nomine's war.

For a few years, I was a HUGE fan of oldskool rave & jungle and pretty interested in music filling the nebulous space between UK funky, post-dubstep, 'future garage,' Night Slugs, etc, but couldn't get into classic UK garage at all. I even liked some of the early 90s Nu Groove, Strictly Rhythm, and Nervous tracks, but wasn't really feeling the garage tracks posted in this thread. This is the mix that got me into UKG.

https://soundcloud.com/jackswift/jack
https://soundcloud.com/jackswift/jack-swift-presents-the-2

Yes, that's 638 tracks over the course of 10 hours. It's not all UK tunes, of course - you can't trace the development of the genre/scene/nuum/whatever without bringing up Todd Edwards, MAW and the like, which this mix does especially during the first couple of hours. But it also doesn't veer too far from the 'classic' upbeat garage sound, which is nice if you've already had your fill of dubstep and funky mixes but don't know much about bassline, speed garage, and 2-step or how those variants developed out of the mid-90s garage sound. I'd also recommend this to old heads who already know their poo poo because it's unrelentingly fun.

Just popping in to post about a release I've been listening to a lot lately, which is Submotion Orchestra's 1968 EP. I had naturally overlooked it as it came out on Circus, but it is really, really enjoyable stuff. Think my favourite track is Hard To Stay, dangerously cheesy as it may be. Not really delved too much into this side of things, at least not lately anyway, so I suppose this post is kind of a wake up call to myself. Definitely check it out though if you're like me and tend to judge a book by its cover...

Yeah it's a cool mix that does what not many other mixes do and shows the roots from NY/NJ Garage and House thing. Especially the likes of those early Nice N Ripe, Smokin' Beats, Sweat releases or whatever wear those influences on their sleeve, but there is still just that wee odd twist that keeps them apart from their cousins over the Atlantic. Something that often gets forgotton about.

Actually that documentary out a while back did a good job at digging at those roots, about the whole Sunday scene thing (though that was a bit later). Not quite as deep reaching as that New Beat doc which started off talking about bizarro 1950s Belgium dancehall culture or whatever it was.

Anyway really digging the new release by Chaos In The CBD which is on Hot Haus Records. If you liked their stuff on ClekClekBoom you'll like this. Heavy hitting, jacking, bass-ic bomb of a track, with a Legowelt remix for the sophisticated folk.

Honestly after going through the whole album "sinogrime" is a misnomer. Shanghai Freeway is outstanding but had me expecting more 2004 Wiley type sounds. Still dig it overall as I'm also a fan of that kinda hazy holistic sound but I'd appreciate more low-end. Not familiar with the scene but from what I see I dig the aesthetic, if this is considered vaporwave I'll have to dig deeper.

Cross posting this from the Ferraro and friends thread

Stravinsky posted:

I really don't think going into Asiatisch with a grime mindset is really the right thing to do. Despite what the press release (it was really bad at articulating what it was trying to say) may have lead you to believe, Asiatisch is more about the idea of taking Chinese culture and the filtering, fetishising, and boiling down to a core things that are seen as uniquely eastern (secret mysticism and gongs and dragons) then putting it through a western mindset that we get from our media experience (which is really where most western ideas of China comes from.) Wiley and Kode9 and the rest of the dudes who did sinogrime were making music that they got from tv/movies like Rush Hour and stereotypes in cartoons. I really do not get the sense that they were going out of their way to make a false representation of China, because its just poo poo they knew that had a unique sound that they wanted to play with for a bit.

Asiatisch is a homage to sinogrime in the same way that a lot of vaporwave is a homage to corporate and elevator music. Its looking at how culture is corrupted into industry, watered down to odd components and made safe for consumption. Its looking at how things like saturday morning cartoons (pay attention to the background music especially) teach us all we know about eastern culture even if its false. And then puking it all back up to turn industry back into some sort of culture. Take the vocal samples used in a couple of the tracks. They are spoken in a very clear (disregarding manipulation via effects), cold and clinical manner used by someone teaching a language or a tv anchor would use. Its something you would hear when your flipping around on tv and you stumble up a chinese news station.

Its really interesting to me that Fatima's stuff has a following in the UK bass scene. People who I usually do not associate with the kind of experimental stuff she is doing have been talking about the Asiatisch and her older work. But anyway if your interested in something that explores in the same realm as this, then be sure to check out Ohnetrix Point Never. Especially R+7. While not vapor wave it they both share a lot of common themes with that scene.

He's my favorite artist by a decent margin. With Gorgon Sound, with Neek, and his own solo productions, he's been putting out the best in bass music for awhile. Plus his vocals I've heard are pretty loving incredible.
