Here in women's prison they run around looking for magical chickens and having adventures, almost everyone is a good quirky person who just went wrong in life, except for the literally insane redneck Christian drug addict. I think the one scene that represents the show best is when that cool inmate Poussey is doing her full-on "bitch, girllll" ebonics-speak while namedropping The Smiths or someone like that. When I watched the last episode and saw it was setting up season two I was pretty disappointed that I didn't get a conclusion because I'm definitely not watching season 2.

How does it compare to the 80's Fox comedy hit Women in Prison?

Get up on culture a bit. Morrisey and the Smiths is huge for a lot of Latinos and other minorities in California and other places. And I loved how empathetic and dedicated the show was in not portraying people as irreversibly evil (especially for what I suppose is a low/middle security prison). But whatever, YMMV. EDIT: Though this is the reason why I feel the show's biggest misstep is the redneck lady. Just a whiff. EDIT 2: And appreciation for the 12 Oz mouse discussion last page, that show was legitimately good for me, and by the end epic. Shageletic fucked around with this message at 02:08 on Apr 17, 2014 |

In one episode it has the same number of deaths as the film and I'm thinking the body count will keep rising. Martin Freeman's accent wasn't distracting after a couple scenes.

Hahaha. Yeah I'm sticking up convenience stores, but are you stupid? That dude is clearly Sikh, not a Muslim! Or how about this exchange, that actually happened: Taystee: im innocent Poussey: what you did or did not do is irrelevant, you have to show remorse... foo'. *incisive response* *tacks "foo" on the end of it, because that's apparently necessary* I mean, it just all keeps stacking up.

Freaks (1932) is very popular to reference in womens correctional facilities. Its endearing how all inmates speak in the same voice as the not-hack writer.

Morrissey's Latino fanbase is primarily confined to Los Angeles and Mexico, but yeah, it's a thing. He wrote a song for them ("First of the Gang to Die") and they have a convention in LA every year called "Viva Morrissey". Here's an 11 minute documentary on it: http://vimeo.com/19840180 I'm not using this to justify the reference in Orange is the New Black, but I also don't remember that line so I have no opinion on it.

Mixology is doomed, right? I know it's not a great show but it's got a certain realism to it that I really like. It really does a decent job of showing how dating works in 2014 without going "this is what 'selfie' means, granpa!"

With Fargo being brilliant, and the success of True Detective, are we about to wnter an age of 'limited series'?

I can't find the link any more but I remember some of the fake one-liners goons were making up and they were pretty funny. *punches corrupt mayor* "Sorry, it was a Freudian slip."

I'll accept it if one episode is Freud declaring the killer couldn't possible be a woman, because the killing was too competent and women are subhuman. Just so we can get the full Freud experience.

I hope Freud goes to a lot of strip clubs and does blow all the time. And also is played by Johnny Lee Miller.

Amazon put up both Kill Bills a few weeks ago and all I can say is, drat, young Lucy Liu was a fine looking lady. edit: I only say that because I didn't realize how fine looking she was at the time, having been conditioned to hate her from Ally McBeal and Charlie's Angels. This show is not for you maybe. I've caught random sketches of the Amy Schumer show, and I really encourage people to check out the M'lady sketch. Its great. I mean, if you want a recent and prime example, read through the True Detective thread, which I assume is still insufferable because people still think it's a giant Lovecraftian prequel or some dumb poo poo they surmised from a millisecond glance at something or a reference that is more the author putting in a reference than him making some huge loving long con that will pay off in four years, even though the creator and showrunner has gone on to state the show was nothing more than a character study.
