blakyoshi posted:So... what advantage does the Fire Bar have? So far, it just looks like a worse Beam Sword. I like the concept, but I have no idea what role it has in gameplay. I'd imagine it hits harder for the few swings that you get with it, and you can probably chuck the used-up hilt at somebody for some good knockback. But hey, even if it's just a worse Beam Sword, that's another chance for a sword-like item to spawn.

I'm imagining it gets shorter because it shoots the fireballs out with each swing, so it can be used up close and at range.

Yeah, I'd expect it to maybe hit a bit harder than the beam sword, but the range gets shorter with each use. I'm guessing it loses one of those fireballs with every hit. Sounds like fun, I LOVE all these new items were getting.

Echo Chamber posted:I hope the WiiU version would let you use custom music from the SD card, because I have a few music ideas for stages that chances are won't be in the game. I wouldn't count on it at all. You can't use the SD Card slot for the Wii U's data management beyond the one time data transfer from the Wii, and even other games that you think could utilize it can't. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on 360 and PS3 had options to play custom music from your HDD, Flash Drives, and shared network music, and that feature is completely and totally absent from the Wii U version which is widely believed to be because Nintendo doesn't allow Wii U games to access the SD Card slot (And external drives are formatted and encrypted to deter piracy). Nintendo got spooked in a big way by the ease with which a Wii could be cracked wide open with nothing but a PC and an SD Card, I'm pretty sure the only reason they even allowed the Wii U to even have an SD Card slot was for that initial data transfer from a Wii. We saw a video of the Fire Bar in the Nintendo Direct. It doesn't launch the fireballs (or at least, it didn't in the video), and each hit removes one of them, but it looks like at full length it's got a slightly longer range than the Beam Sword. Maybe it does more damage but less knockback, maybe the hilt is a powerful projectile! Who knows.

Maybe it's just worse than the Beam Sword because it's not like there aren't items that are objectively worse than other items.

Nintendo are not known for half-assing their copy protection since the DS/Wii hacking turned out to be so easy. When the 3DS came out many people said it seemed unhackable. So much for that I guess

Its still pretty rough to hack it, as the only hack I know about relies on a firmware that's more than a year out of date and has a nasty habit of bricking the system. Which is a far cry from the ease of hacking the DS and Wii.

I figure if the Wii U is ever cracked it will be through an exploit in Wii Mode like Smash Stack.

I like the new ranking system. Instead of telling me how many people are better than me, it'll tell me how many people I'm better than hahaha that just made me realize someone in the world will have to be "rank 1" or "rank 0" as in nobody is worse than them

Maybe it's like the Subspace Emissary: you can walk through the blast zone no problem, but if you're launched through it, then you die. "No characters from The Wonderful 101?" I like this one.

ThisIsACoolGuy posted:I find it hilarious that everyone was saying "Greninja is super popular in Japan" and reading "Yeah Greninja must be loved by foreigners" I love Greninja's presence, because he isn't a mascot or a publicity driver. He hasn't even appeared in the anime yet, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't in any X/Y pre-release material. Instead, he's become the lead in Gen 6 because he's legitimately very well-received. He's not adored by a very specific group like Pikachu or Lucario, but he's got a lot of good points, both visually and mechanically, that mean that he's considered highly by every subset of the playerbase. I don't think he was anyone's first choice for a Gen 6 Pokemon in Smash. But he was definitely in everyone's top five.

I take it Greninja fulfills both X/Y representation AND having a water starter final form to rival Charizard. That's why I'm also speculating we'll get a final form of a grass starter. It's a way to have "successors" to all three of Trainer's Pokémon.

I'd love it if they brought back Ivysaur. If only because I like the idea of a four legged fighter. Pikachu fills that role when running but Ivysaur felt unique. I liked that he ran around on all fours and his vines did all the hand work

There was something really satisfying about the way his spore attacks landed and propelled you away. I loved ROB for the same reason, his air attacks were everything. Maybe I just like hitting people with explosions.

I wouldn't be surprised Ivysaur isn't back since they seem to completely removed the Whip Up+B move from Zero Suit Samus and Captain Olimar. I don't think there is a move that Ivysaur could use that would let him fly in the air.
