My only issue so far is getting my music back. Xbox Music won't cloud sync with most of it (Lots of JRock/JPop :v:) so I have to manually move it back. Beyond that it's not too bad. My pictures and docs are synced with Onedrive, so that's not an issue either.

EDIT: And now my phone is freaking out again. The start menu is not loading half the time and the power button won't work. Well, time to switch phones again!

Remember, app data is only restored if the app supports it.

Messenger is dead. They replaced it with Skype ages ago, and this is just WP catching up.

I'm aware that the "Windows Live Messenger" branding is dead, but the service itself is still working, for example, with Rooms. I don't care about the label for the feature, I want to know how to stop the texting-like feature on my phone from using carrier SMS and restore it to using the same texting-like service which now powers Skype chat and Rooms.

I know. What I'm saying is that you can't do this.

Good. I hope this is a sign of faster agility. Because there has been none up until now. Right now I'm hesitant on whether to preorder the Lumia 930, which releases on June 19th, or wait another week and see what new things Android's got to offer. If Microsoft were dragging their balls in regards to fixing Xbox Music, it wouldn't have helped my decision, since music is a big part of a phone for me.

The bug that manifests as an audible split-second spurt of the previous track when moving to the next song is still there unfortunately, if not increasing in frequency with the last update I find. I've played about 30 songs so far and have had it happen likely 12 times. Guess we'll see in 2 weeks from now if it's squashed.

Not crippling, but geez - in 2014, should "be able to play multiple mp3 tracks in a row without skipping" be an actual milestone for a modern music player even if at the alpha code stage (which Xbox music certainly shouldn't be)? You would think this territory would be somewhat well-worn by now.

I think I remember having to go to outlook.com and deleting the birthday calendar and adding it again because you can only change the reminder settings while setting it up

So I've been continuing to work on the Windows phone version of my awful forum reader, and now I'm at a state where I can have a beta. It's not at feature parity with the Windows 8 version (which itself is getting a rewrite more or less.) but it's getting there.

If anyone wants in, just let me know. Again, this is not feature complete, and I know they're plenty of bugs. This won't be as stable as Bootleg Robots version. It's just something I'm playing around with.

They are basically the same thing. FM drops logs onto your phone so you can break them over and debug. The other gives uploads them for us to do the work.

I'm looking to get an inexpensive no- frills smartphone. What is the consensus on the Lumia 520? This is going to be a temporary phone for now so I am not looking for anything fancy. All that really matter is if it can play Candy Crush smoothly (not a joke) and social apps like Skype and Facebook.
OS not a big deal. This phone is for someone coming from an iPhone 4 so being behind the curve abit is not an issue

I had a Lumia 900 and cracked the screen last month. I'm close to my renewal date on my contract, but want to wait and see what the next set of Nokia phones looks like. Maybe AT&T's version of the Lumia 930 will hit the sweet spot for me.

Anyway, I got the Lumia 520 to tide me over, and holy poo poo, what a great phone. I was afraid it was going to be shittier than the 900, but the experience has been so much better that I am pretty loathe to get rid of it unless AT&T's new phone rocks my rear end. Crashes I thought were common place on apps because of low RAM don't happen often if at all on the 520.If you don't take a lot of pictures and don't mind a smaller form factor, it's totally worth $59 to try it out.

Moto G for $179 if you don't have any local music. I'd really suggest the extra $20 to get a 16gb version as there is no SD slot and 8gb would be hard to live within. It's the only moderate sized phone with Droid Maxx/LG G2/Note 3 battery life. Oh yeah and camera is not so great.

Don't let any haters fool you it's a fine permanent phone for 1/3 the cost.

I bought my wife a 520 after she broker her 900 and was a few months away from an upgrade. I was impressed by the phone.

She now has the 1020 and that camera is really impressive. I sure wish Microsoft would make an updated version of it.

And, in other news, I took the otterbox off my 920 because it needed cleaned and I had forgotten how nice the 920 design is. And it is a shame how much the built in screen protector of the otter box ruins the beauty of the display. I'm rolling case free for a few days now!

The 920 is an incredibly rugged phone - there are youtube videos of it surviving ridiculous punishment that would destroy any other smartphone. I can't imagine why someone would want to put it in a case. Every time I see a friend's tablet or phone and they've put one of those screen protection films over the screen it almost makes me want to gouge my eyes out it looks so awful.

loquacius
Oct 21, 2008

I've had a 920 since it launched and it's still basically pristine; my girlfriend has had a 1020 for maybe four months now and it's beaten-up enough that she's thinking of actually getting a case. The idea of putting a case on a Nokia product just seems completely foreign to me because the 900 and 920 were just so indestructible. Either the same doesn't apply for the 1020 or she's been dropping it even more than I've seen.

Either way, think twice before getting a 920 with the intent of putting a case on it, because it is a fairly substantial phone, and a case pushes it into rather impractical territory I feel. It is also not necessary from my experience, but this kind of stuff is always anecdotal.
