I like Blood Orange, Toro y Moi, and Twin Shadow. I've given other bands listed under "Chillwave" on Wikipedia a shot, but none of them really caught my fancy besides Com Truise.

Any recommendations?

Neon Indian is also okay.

I'd say Washed Out and Wild Nothing but you probably already heard them if you looked through Wikipedia. Maybe try Chromeo? Alternatively, all of those bands really want to be a mash-up of Prince and New Order so maybe look into those dudes

if you're educating yourself on the great bassists, Larry Graham should be on your list. he was in Sly and the Family Stone before forming Graham Central Station, which also made some great music, but his self-titled stuff from the 80s is pretty weak and not at all funky.

Let us not forget Bootsy Collins, the greatest funk bassist ever. He performed with notables like James Brown and Funkadelic and later toured as part of the P-Funk Collective with his own group Bootsy's Rubber Band. Afterwards he went into producing and worked with Zapp and Roger, the Ohio Players as well as the Ramones. And he also collaborates sometimes with Victor Wooten.

I'm already familiar with his output in the Family Stone during their peak, but I'll check out Graham Central Station for sure. Bootsy's Rubber Band is also on my radar, as I do enjoy P-Funk every now and then.

Hopefully this is an easy one, but any good celestial/spacey music? Like something that could complement night time driving. Could be soothing and relaxing or something a little harder and more exciting. I understand this is some really broad request, but I'll check out any suggestions you guys have. :)

Yeah I enjoyed Sky Valley and Dopesmoker.

Auto-Pilot for one, it has this dreamy, melancholic feel to it, I'd like to hear more like that.

Anyone have any recommendations for music podcasts? Here's my last.fm for reference: http://www.last.fm/user/Ialdabaoth But if you don't feel like looking, I mostly like indie pop, dream pop, indie electronic, electropop, ambient.

I listen to NPR's All Songs Considered but it's pretty hit or miss with me. They play a lot of indie rock, which doesn't really appeal to me, aside from a couple bands.

Hello recommendation thread!

There's a great Chromeo remix of an Aeroplane song called She's a Superstar, and while it's sorta similar to some of their other work it's a lot more melodic and less electronic and the piano is super awesome. What genre would this qualify as, and can anyone recommend some similar sounding songs/bands? Also here's a link to the song on Spotify which doesn't have a robot saying "THIS IS A PREVIEW" every minute.

Sound Opinions is good; two music critics talk about a different subject in-depth each week. Most of their shows won't line up with your interests but they're almost always interesting. Maybe browse through their archive and find a show that sounds interesting and see if you like their format.

The Needle Drop is pretty good too, but the focus is on unknown + indie rock. Also he says 'drop' way too much and it annoys me ("Here's a track from DaIndiestBand, their new album drops on the 23rd", every band has a mention of when their new single / album will "drop"), but that may be a personal thing.

Hooverphonic, particularly the first two albums (Blue Wonder Power Milk and A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular). Fairly different from most of Portishead's work while still being trip hop. Similar to Sneaker Pimps, or (on Blue Wonder Power Milk in particular) like Portishead - It Could Be Sweet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKZedCwd5zA

Lamb.

Mono. Not the Japanese noise band, it's a one-and-done project but that one album is pretty great! The wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_%28UK_band%29
You may recognize the song Life in Mono if you watched the Ethan Hawke "Great Expectations"
If trip hop existed in the 60s and was used to score Sean Connery Bond films, this is what it would sound like.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4o0reNjF04

All of the above have female lyrics!

And as above, Tricky - Maxinquaye is a great suggestion. Angels with Dirty Faces is good too, but not as good as Maxinquaye.

Alpha (although some of their albums are instrumental, and they do have a mix of male/female vocals but iirc so does Massive Attack), and Ethero's first album "Breath From Another" (she had a second album I didn't like at all despite some fairly big name producers, and I think another project a couple years ago I never checked). Ivy's "Long Distance" would also fit in I believe. Possibly Bjork's Homogenic if you've not heard that yet-it's a bit more abrasive than the other stuff I think but I believe Tricky handled a lot of the production there and there's some similarities if you like his stuff. Most the other stuff I can think of has been mentioned.

Unless you're thinking of just music played at weddings, in which case I'd point you to The Chicken Dance, Cottoneye Joe, or The Macarena.
