Surely more interesting would be the salaries and the value of the players on Wrexham and the value of the players on the other club. That let's you assign a value to his management skills.

Then comparing squad value to Total transfer fees paid over a 2-5 year period would then capture the other half of the equation by identifying how good his player development and evaluation is.

You get the 3 year contract at £50k/wk, 20% yearly raise, but neither of the other two escalators. You've certainly done well, you don't really have as much leverage as you seem to think you have. One year in 7th place in the Premier league isn't enough to get you to a megabastard club, which are really the only improvements over Wrexham you could get in England.

I would have said the same thing, if we had simply come in the bottom third of the table this year. That would have been an impressive, worthy result. To be in contention for Europe in the first year in the Premiership, even if we don't quite get there, is an unbelievably good result; a feat that is at the very least comparable to taking a megabastard club to silverware. And we're set for next year, too. Any bolstering or changes that need to be made will only improve the team and the club.

In real life, a manager like would be snapped up immediately, no doubt at all. Look at Brendan Rogers, who's had a far less impressive rise than Brown, and he got the Liverpool call, too. We shouldn't blame our American friend here for taking calls from other, highly respected teams; that's only natural. What we need to do is secure his services for years to come. I vote 2.

I like that idea. As chairman I hereby endorse bounties on the top clubs. You get £10,000 each for finishing above Chelsea or Man City, the oiligarchs. You get £5,000 for finishing above Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton or Spurs, the traditional powerhouses. You get 20,000 for finishing above Arsenal because reasons. Feel free to help yourself to that as a part of the next contract.

Our player values are pretty low, because they're a function of team and player reputation. Shirra just won one of the two big awards in English Football, but is only worth 4.9m. Meanwhile the loaner from Manchester United is worth over 11m.

Thirded: I'd also be willing to renegotiate next year with additional escalation based on performance. You definitely earned a bigger contract.

Part of my reservations in going full hog come from the fact that I suspect mean average salary is a misleading statistic. One truth you've expressed to us is that premier league talent is concentrated. As a result, I feel that the megabastards drag league average way up. I'm interested in knowing how many clubs currently pay above the asked for £50K/wk? If it's more than 7, I'd be willing to vote for your bonus clauses.

I'm for this as well. We wouldn't be the first club to experience an Icarus effect in the PL: what really matters is consistency and we haven't had a chance to see that yet. Hell, I'd even be happy with a lower finish next season as long as our place in the top flight is solidified. Add any 'screw the megabastards' bonuses that you can and I'll sign off on all of them.
