The Host was decent if you like that kind of stuff. You also might like Monsters, its one of my favorites and having its director attached to the new Godzilla film made me so stoked for it.

I'm also looking for good horror movies to watch on netflix and I just keep getting overwhelmed by the amount of garbage out there. The bad horror movies aren't even cheesy enough to be entertaining any more. I hate all the shaky cam and found footage horror as well, but not as much as I hate anything someone might call a slow burn. Which means pretty much anything that has to do with ghosts. Especially Ti West. I can't loving stand Ti West. The last thing my girlfriend and I both enjoyed was Frankenstein's army. The monster designs were so goofy they were almost cute. I thought Haunter had an interesting premise but kind of dragged on. Most of the stuff that's actually good is subtitled and I'm usually looking for something that doesn't require a lot of attention.

The Others was a nice creepy movie and I should probably watch it again. The same goes for Stir of Echoes, even though it's from 1999. Looking at my Recently Viewed, I wanted to like Atrocious but it took forever to have much going on. The found footage part didn't help either. I highly recommend Murdoch Mysteries, season 1-5 are on Prime. Murdoch is a nerdy police detective in the 1880's who 'invents' modern-ish criminal science to solve murders. It's a little bit steam punk and there are many cameos by historical figures of the period like Buffalo Bill, Tesla, A.C. Doyle, and Jack London. The show covers all the bases from comedy, romance, serious, political, and philosophical, along with genuine character development. Rarely are the mysteries straight forward yet avoid cheesy twists.

I just saw Street Thief and thought it was really good for a low-budget, unknown movie. Spoiler of the obvious: It's not a documentary. Heck, netflix lists it as a thriller and the star is the director. But I don't think that detracted much from the film, especially after reading a couple of film festival interviews.

The Last Stand is bad, really bad. But fun to watch. Also forest whitaker as a supporting character who is literally angry all the time is pretty funny. He just looks so fed up with this whole making movies business

Just watched Odd Thomas. It had some neat ideas and effects if you can ignore Willem Defoe being completely wasted and every single line of dialogue sucking poo poo. I'm home sick today so I'm going to continue on to watch Frankenstein's Army based on this thread's recommendations. I'd planned to watch Deep Space Nine, but they dropped all but the first season

It now costs an additional $4 a month to stream on up to only 4 devices at the same time. I just found out about this today, not sure how long that has been in place. Narco Cultura: Documentary about the culture surrounding the cartels and the violence that goes along with it. Very interesting. Noggahide has a new favorite as of 00:29 on May 2, 2014 |

Pain and Gain, the movie with Dwayne Johnson and Marky Mark Wahlberg being gym dudes who rob from a mob dude is up. I think Bram Stoker's Dracula, the one with Keanu Reeves and Gary Oldman got added really hush-hush like. Instant 5 Stars on that one. Anthony Hopkins is Van Helsing. It's good. Also Also, there's a B-movie added called Ravenous, I recommend it.

And also this: From imdb "Director Francis Ford Coppola was insistent that he didn't want to use any kind of elaborate special effects or computer trickery when making the movie. He initially was given a standard visual effects team, but they told him that the things he wanted to achieve were impossible without using modern digital technology. Coppola disagreed and fired them, replacing them with his 29 year old son Roman Coppola, who set about achieving some of the effects by using old-school cinematic trickery." The effects look dated, but it is a bit on purpose, and it gives the film a pretty unique look for the 90's. EDIT And Gary Oldman was cemented as one of my favorite actors because of this (and The Fifth Element)

Guy Pearce isn't even the best or most recognizable actor, you've got Jeffry Jones (Ferris Bueller's principal), David Arguette, and Robert Carlyle, as well. A really wild and funny horror movie with an interesting mythic premise, and all the actors really seemed to put some heart into their roles. I have watched this one a few times and always been pleased.
