Yeah, I say "Shit" a shit-ton of times. What of it, shithead?
You should only have the crossbow out for as long as the switch in speed buff is on. Switch to it, get to one of the animations where you cock it to get the spread buff, lay waste and then when the buff ends switch out to something else until you need to knock someone's health down quick.

I picked Guan Yinping as my first character when trying ambition mode, and she just wrecks poo poo like no one else I've tried afterwards. Her EX-weapon has awesome range, she can self-buff for increased attack speed and movement speed (it also makes guarding officers drop their guard), and her final strong attack, when she's self-buffed, creates whirlwinds that sweep up enemies in a large area and deal a ton of damage to them. Her regular musou attacks don't really seem all that great, but her true rage attack sweeps up all nearby enemies and she runs really fast once she gets going.

Just a heads up if anyone wants a copy of DW7 Empires.

Amazon sells the digital code for PSN and they currently have it for around $18. I don't think I've ever seen it for that cheap. NOTE: It's actually listed under regular DW7 page, but if you click on 'PS3 Digital Code' it's for the Empires version of the game. I can verify that it's actually DW7 Empires as I purchased and redeemed a copy successfully today.

They're pretty nice. 7 Empires is pretty much you pick a scenario, Yellow Turban Rebellion, Chibi and so on for the backdrop. Then you pick your character, who can be anyone from one of the current rulers, to a strategist, marshal or general officer under one of them. You train the kingdom's troops, conduct diplomacy, gain supporters and wage war on nearby kingdoms to claim their territory. Plus even if you only start off as say a plain old officer, if you can amass the resources to do so, you can rebel against your ruler with any sworn brothers or spouses you may have to take the reins for yourself.

It's like every Dynasty Warriors fanfic come to life. Ever wanted to play Zhang Jiao and actually lead the Yellow Turbans to victory? Are you a Lu Bu fan that wants to blitz down every fool who'd dare to pursue you and then steal their land? Well now you can!

For $20, definitely. I paid full price for it at release and feel like I got my money's worth. 7E is self-contained so it's a good one to get, too.

I haven't gotten into Ambition mode yet in 8XL, but from what I read they lifted a lot of stuff for it wholesale from 7E. It's DW gameplay with some simple strategy stuff on top. Battles have an emphasis on capturing bases and keeping supply lines intact/disrupting the enemy's lines. You can be a grunt and just fight or work your way up to emporer, woo officers to your side or kill them, build up your home base and make better stuff, etc.

The Edit mode is pretty good, too. You can let other people's Edit guys into your game and see lots of He Mans and Hung Dongs. There's 6 (or 7?) endings to get, 1 for each alignment, and a few different scenarios to play through. So the replayability is there.

I'll be contrary and say the the Empires games are not worth getting unless you are desperate for more DW to play. The strategy side is very shallow and the action side tends to feel more like a grind unless you really like beating up random mooks - your kingdom is pretty much unable to successfully attack or defend without you. On the plus side, you can marry Dong Zhuo.

You've got big battlefields common to the type in Warriors games. There are bases scattered around the battlefield in camps and towns that are manned by a garrison, and those bases spit out units of troops that attempt to go take opposing bases. Your character isn't particularly strong on its own, but it can freely 'attach' to any of the unit types wandering around the battlefield, and then you control that unit of troops as a single entity. Your moveset changes based on what unit you are commanding, so if you take command of a group of cavalry you'll get a horse and you can move around quickly and do charges and stuff, but you're vulnerable to pikes. You can take a group of archers and shoot volleys of arrows, or any of the various foot troops as there is kind of a weapon triangle thing going on with certain types being strong against others. Your character's abilities improve at commanding each specific type of unit the more you use it.

I think between battles you can somewhat improve the survivability of your character by buying better armor and weapons, and those kind of carry over to make the entire unit you command slightly better. Also I think you can hire mercenaries between battle, which basically means you can store up unit types that you like, then plop them down in battle and immediately attach to them. I had lots of fun with it when it first came out, but it felt kind of dated when I played it later and the overall story and voice acting are embarrassingly bad.

7:E is another of the good Empires games as the various modes help stretch the gameplay out

I love bladestorm, I honestly have no idea how long it is though because I feel like I've pumped dozens of hours into it but the wiki's reference a slew of characters I've never met and units I've never seen. I haven't even met Joan of Arc!

The biggest problem with Bladestorm is how repetitive it is. Once you've played it for an hour you've seen basically everything in the game and the only thing that changes is unlocking different weapon types, and the entire game is just playing rock/paper/scissors with those. Also you probably have to pump like 100 hours into it to unlock everything. It's a shame really because underneath the whole thing is a pretty interesting idea that could have lead to a good Bladestorm 2 with more variety, but I guess it didn't sell well enough to bother.

I know calling it repetitive might sound silly in the DW thread but every single Warriors game has more variety and things to do than Bladestorm.

I won't disagree with this, but if it wasn't for the terrible mid-game lull, Bladestorm probably would've been much better received. Once the historical battles start coming fast and somewhat frequently, the game seems to pick up speed again. Unfortunately, the only way I found this out was through like 2 days of basically auto-pilot grinding while laying on my couch, too medicated and/or sick to notice how much I was grinding.

I would probably try a Bladestorm 2. Or if they did something similar for the RoTK/Sengoku eras.

I meant the story. Regardless of the character, Basara 4 basically doesn't have one. You do stages in any old order and have mostly generic conversations with the officers, and then maybe in two stages per character you say something unique to them and yell a lot.
