Benny the Snake posted:Hey guys. My first week went well, I guess. I was asking questions constantly to my manager, but he's thankfully a very patient person. I've made like six or seven sales so far but one of them had to be cancelled on Friday because our warehouses didn't have it in stock. I double-checked the inventory of all my listings but I forgot to check a handful of them before I left, so I'm nervous that there may be another cancelled order come Monday. What's worse is that we didn't make much of a profit off my sales. At first, my manager had me price items according to the competition and then on Friday he changed the pricing structure based on markup. This was because I was starting their eBay account so the idea was we'd dip our toes into that market. Even if we didn't make much of a profit, we could at least build customer satisfaction. I also spent Friday re-pricing every listing and I had to end a good chunk of them because our competitors were undercutting us. It's tedious work but overall it's not too bad. I'm dong my best to prevent carpel tunnel syndrome by stretching my wrists regularly. For some reason, I've developed stomach pains. I don't know if it's stress or something else. Looking forward to Monday. The stomach pains are probably stress, and there's really no way through that but muscling through them when they come up, they'll ease up as you become more confident in your job. You need to be careful with double-checking your work. It's better to be slower and look like you're thorough than pretending you're fast and on top of poo poo and then getting caught out. A cancelled sale is a lot worse than one less listing going up. Also while I understand your concern with carpal tunnel, until you start experiencing pain I wouldn't get too worried about it.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a legit concern with a data entry job, you guys. You're just sitting there typing for the entire shift. That said, Benny you should be fine. One thing that helps is to keep the keyboard flat. Though this doesn't sound like a typical data entry job from the way you describe it. Benny, why are you so concerned with sales? That's for them to worry about, not you. You're just the guy that types and submits it to the web. And even if they are putting sales pressure on you, while you should do your best, you also shouldn't stress too hard about it, they're not paying you enough to be any kind of salesman.

Benny for gently caress's sake don't sabotage yourself by doing rushed work and inventing work-related maladies after 1 week on the job. Also, note that carpal tunnel syndrome would not be a good excuse to use when calling in sick. If you wanna try, please record and post that phone call, thanks.

Benny, if the carpal tunnel keeps up, keep in mind that you can make an OSHA complaint to your management on ergonomics grounds and they pretty much have to oblige and can't retaliate. Perhaps a nice Kinesis and an Aeron would help cut down on the eBay stress

But its not your fault, it's theirs for having lead paint in the building.

Yeah, working to avoid carpal tunnel is fine. There's nothing wrong with doing stretches and stuff to keep it at bay, and I ... I was going to say I'm not sure why the thread leapt on him for that, but it's because he's Benny and the rest of his posting is so poo poo. Benny, keep doing your stretches and whatever. But also keep doing your job. And loving double check that you have things before you try to sell them, holy poo poo. You've heard that last before, but you need to hear it again. Do not sell things your company does not have. Christ.

Benny, are you still doing library volunteer work? If so, please make sure you only ever carry one book at a time to avoid back strain. If it's a really big book, just leave it for someone else to re-shelf. We all know those old bags that work at libraries have already destroyed their bodies anyway.

If it is, of course, then yeah. Attention to detail is the whole of your job right now, Benny.

It's because he's been posting on SA for a year so everyone kind of assumed that, much like anyone with an ounce of insight who uses a computer for anything on a regular basis, he would have already taken steps to prevent CT. But instead, it seems like he doesn't recognize that you can get CT from using a computer no matter where you are, and thinks that "getting paid to work" = "you now have to worry about CT".

I'd argue that one stain of this nature is enough to ruin the couch, no matter the area it covers, so yes, the number of stains is relevant.

Obdicut posted:"less staining" is a better way to put it, since the total amount of staining, rather than the sheer number of stains, is what's important. It's really a question of what you want to emphasize. If it's the stains themselves, use "fewer stains". If it's the act or condition of staining, use "less staining". It's a subtle —but important— difference. Benny is a writer, after all. Benglish. Let none of us write it, ever. Not amongst ourselves, and not to our hire-ups. 'kay Holmes?

A few splotches on a corner is gross, but a long, thick stripe of a stain, going across all three cushions like some sort of snail dragged its rear end across it to do die, that'd be worse. However, I'm betting there's both quantity and quality.

They think making a sale is more important than anything else. The upside to this is people get suspicious of listings that are basically too cheap to be true. Did you decide to delete the listings on your own? I hope not. You started the company eBay account? Jesus, have these people sold anything online, anywhere, before? It sounds like they haven't. Don't let them blame you for the learning curve that is already happening, the one where the first example is bored housewives checking prices daily and lowering them. Also, have you done anything on Amazon? People assume everything from Amazon is 'better,' and from a real company, and are therefore willing to pay more.
