TheEggsBenedict posted:So, what's next for Bryan and Cena after this? I really can't think of anyone else those 2 can feud except for Cesaro and each other. For Bryan it's Brock Lesnar or Taker...but no streak. If Bray breaks Cena and he has a dark period it's a lot of faces. For both there's Cesaro. The SHIELD just ate everyone on the roster. There's always Jericho! Bruno! HBK!

I didn't really like the opening segment and I'm not sure why. It was a cool visual but it didn't do much more for me. Also I kinda hoped Kane dragged Brie down to Hell. Maybe since he went through the trouble of bursting out of the ring in the first place? I loved Magneto though.

If Cena lost and went away for awhile (haha), Bray going "Hey, remember when I was the only person to beat you square in the middle?" to Bryan would be pretty neat.

I'd like that person to be Punk but...Cult of Personality/Straight Edge vs Bray Wyatt's cult. Oh God, Punk, come back.

Korak posted:So it seems like Flair was legit drunk and he was escorted out quickly when he got out of the ring. Feels sad how he had to get liquored up to go out there for a promo. They had him do another interview later so I doubt that? Flair may have been drunk, he may not have. He kind of always sounds like that now. Every time I've heard him since the blood clot issue in Japan and Reid's death he's been kind of slurred. It's possible he's been drunk each time, but he's really old and had a shitload of stress in the last year.

Cena/Wyatt is hyped. Kane/Bryan was pretty good tonight, Brie did great and the bitch line delivery was on point. Barret owns, Heyman owns, Magento always owns, Shield promos are always top tier, I like evolution because Orton and Tista get to do something and not be incompetent, Flair was Flair. Everything else was a saturday afternoon cartoon.

Ric Flair is 65 years old and has been on a bender since like 1981, probably earlier. He could Flair Flop over dead like Warrior tomorrow, but who knows for sure. I prefer my theory that he was so slurred and weird tonight because he was sober instead of in his natural state.

I know Flair being always being drunk is the new joke and all but as a harcore WCW guy back in the day....I can't ever tell. He's always like that. He developed a slur a few years ago.

Good Listener posted:I didn't really like the opening segment and I'm not sure why. It was a cool visual but it didn't do much more for me. While I enjoyed the creepiness of it, I think I've identified why something just feels off: The angle of a new rising star taking children away from Cena because the kids love him despite not understanding he's a clear villain is a loving brilliant concept. However, Bray Wyatt isn't and has never been a child-friendly gimmick that kids ever latched onto, so the idea doesn't quite sell. It's not like they had ever built up the idea of little kids wearing sheep masks and booing Cena. So while I love the idea of using children as Cena's kryptonite, it's the Cena-hating adult fans that have always and continue to bother him. But when they do, he's always had the younger fanbase to fall back on, and WWE is trying to pretend he doesn't have that anymore just because the adults are cheering for Bray. Ironically, that angle would be far better suited to Bray's real life brother, who's portraying a "believe in yourself" gimmick that's going to go over the heads of kids who don't understand subtlety.

It's not like children didn't love Jim Jones either, although Jones did dress better...

Daniel Bryan, SHIELD, and The Wyatts have been perfectly booked for a long time now, and I'm honestly really surprised at how long they've gone without loving any of this up. Wyatt vs Cena is still strong, stronger than ever Daniel Bryan is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion (But feuding with Kane) The SHIELD are taking on Evolution as the last real remaining threat to the group, which is brilliant.

Even with how horribly exploitative and carny the wrestling business is, I have a hard time believing that their handlers (they must actually have handlers for people like Flair, right?) would let someone who is actually that sloppy-drunk go on camera. Much more realistic, and significantly more depressing, is that the years upon years of head trauma and substance abuse has lead to a state where this is just who Flair is, drunk or not, camera on or not. The miracles of DDP yoga can't restore brain function that's already gone. This is the legacy of a lifetime of getting hit in the head for a living.
