If he's awesome enough, do it, but that's the problem... you have no idea if he's going to be Jonathon Martin or Jonathan Ogden.

I'd think they wouldn't have to go get pick #1 but I guess Clowney isn't an absolute lock to go #1

In all the mocks (I know) I have seen, I don't think I've ever heard the Texans having any interest in him. I've seen a lot of STL selecting Robinson, but not any Houston. Who knows.

Is Robinson worthy of the #1 overall pick I guess is my big question.

From the "tape" I've seen, he's a loving road grader in the run game... no idea about passing, because Auburn just didn't ever do that effectively.

That's the knock I've heard as well, isn't nearly as good in pass blocking.

Atlanta does make the draft interesting, this came out of nowhere.

It's not so much that he isn't "good" at pass blocking, it's that he's an unknown quantity in that respect, because of the system he played in. I mean, worst case scenario for whoever drafts this guy, you've got a starting Right Tackle or Guard.

Martin wasn't regarded as a top ten talent though. Don't O-Lineman usually have a pretty good success rate at the top of the draft?

Ogden and Jones, hell you could throw Pace into there too, were such unbelievable all world LTs that if you could guarantee getting someone like them with the #1 pick you take it and don't look back.

Tackles and Guards are just as much of a crap shoot as any other position in the draft unfortunately.

The entire draft is sure, but I think Ice is onto something. Is there any site that shows hit % by position? I feel like OLinemen hit much more frequently than any other position.

Tackles definitely. Guards not so much. Almost every highly rated and highly picked guard in the last five years has panned out.

Yeah they really are a gamble. But oh man, if Atlanta takes an offensive lineman, it means they understand that they have a somewhere from above average to really good quarterback, an amazingly talented reciever, a wily vet reciever and a promising young reciever. If they can keep Matty Ice upright since he was one of the top 3 most sacked QBs last year, then they have an offense that can put up points and claim a free agent running back around training camp (because no running back on their roster is the answer).

Heck, even if they take a flier on a fourth reciever instead of going for a new tight end, it could be pretty interesting. I can see the Atlanta front office thinking having an offense based on a 4 reciever set as being a good thing.

I mean, getting out leveraged happens... obviously you shouldn't make a habit out of it. And I've not seen anything anywhere pointing to Robinson having a habit of letting DLinemen get leverage on him consistently.

Antone Smith and Jacquizz Rodgers are both brilliant in the pass game. Rodgers in space is scary elusive. When the pass was respected because the line was serviceable, that guy could turn a 3 yard check down into 20. Antone hasn't been used or seen much thusfar, but with Snells officially out to pasture, he's going to be in the rotation.

I don't know technique at all but what should a lineman do there, where the DL has obviously diagnosed run and has the leverage on you? Put your hands on his back and push down?

Yeah but I'm just talking about the top of the draft, not the whole thing. Like top ten, top 20, that sort of thing. Martin wouldn't be in that. It would be interesting to see the hit/miss percentages by position for that range over the past ten or so years.

Yep, play dirty and hope you don't get the penalty. Real football X's and O's would say follow him and go for a chip, but players often result for the former rather than the latter.
