This will get you pumped up Ravel, I read this on the guardian earlier. The Brazilian FA thought the coolest thing about the 2010 World Cup was the Vuvuzela. So, they paid some guy no doubt hundreds of thousands of dollars to design a uniquely Brazilian instrument that was cheap to make and anybody could use without training. He came up with the Caxirola: Everybody can shake them and summon sweet samba rhythms. The Brazilian FA decided to try it out and gave out a whole bunch of free ones at a brazilian league match, and then discovered what happened when you give people a relatively heavy object that sits well in the hand and their team starts playing like poo poo/the other team starts diving: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ9NVKxxZ3M&t=82s Apparently the rings are fairly useful as knuckle dusters, too.

I love a creative mowing pattern, me. I wish our groundskeepers would do fun stuff more often, there was a good one at Eastlands a couple of seasons ago with two or three concentric quarter-circles around the corner flags and I think circular mowing in the centre of the pitch. It managed to be a bit different without being hideous. Very few teams even bother diagonal cross-hatching any more, it's just boring rectangles. E: this one wasn't too long ago was it?

It would take at least 8 bud heavies to get me to watch a friendly on a pitch like that, so I guess St. Louis was the perfect place to have it!

And apparently the Busch crew did a decent job on the pitch for the Bosnia-Argentina match, but then again that was like a month after the baseball season ended. (They also were smart enough to let people bring in flares/horns/other stuff to that one, which along with the fact that 37,500 drunk Bosnians were in the stands made it a very fun night despite the Argies winning.)
