I kinda liked Defiance but it didn't really have any depth. It was a fun tie-in with the show.

Defiance basically was done by an entirely different studio within a studio, that has since been gutted and nearly burnt to the ground. Hence Defiance going F2P and basically not getting more content in the summer.

I don't recall seeing this yet: If you're creating alts and want to keep your UI setup, after you create the new character, go to "My Documents\ArcheAge\USER\Data\Account\Alpha\" and copy the contents of the folder with your main character's name to the new character's folder.

I started playing around on the Russian beta for now and I went Archery/Shadowplay/Occultism. Anyone know what kind of melee weapons/stats I should be going for? Even with Google translating the Russian wiki, I'm having a hell of a time trying to figure out that much though so far I'm enjoying the skilltrees I went with.

So I'm pretty sure I must have done something retarded, because I'm almost level 30 and all I've done with regards to farms is plant potatoes for a quest once. I definitely have no idea where to get a scarecrow. Should I backtrack and try to find it or leave that until after I hit 50?

I've gotten a few levels in the 30's just doing my farm work twice a day. Plus, if you need a good source of any material, it's a great way to grow stuff quickly. I've been crafting the cloth armors for myself, and I need a lot of Cloves/Roses for dyes, and cotton for fabric. Since I have the small and large plots next to each other, I can amass these mats quickly and easily. It is definitely worth going through the trading quests to get it.

This is a bit of a trite question, but how's the atmosphere in this game, generally speaking? I really like the idea of a fantasy sandbox PvP game, but my experience with Korean MMOs is that they're always kind of... Tacky, with awful music and totally dead feeling worlds with awkward mismatched aesthetics.

For humans/elves, you get your first scarecrow on the second area, around Windshade in the Lilyut Hills. By then you'll probably be level 10-13. If you somehow skipped getting your mount, they're in your starting area (around Wardton in the Solzreed Peninsula for humans, around Gweonid Lake in Gweonid Forest for elves). Humans also get a row boat just following the quest lines. Around level 13-15, following quests in Lilyut Hills and moving to Bear Mountain, you'll get your first glider.
