Jerry Manderbilt posted:Jesus Christ, Heritage. I only got the header from Facebook, but wow: Wow, that is one of the most devoid-of-meaning articles I have ever read. Except for a single paragraph 1/3rd of the way down, it seems like they got out of their way to not actually say what position the organization holds on marriage. Instead, it's a bunch of doublespeak about "sexual integrity" and the "culture of dialog and tolerance." [insert Princess Bride "you keep using that word" image, here] Isn't any person or organization battling to expand marriage so that more people can enter into marriage pro-marriage by definition? How could anyone possibly be any more pro-marriage than the people who want to let more couples get married? Tut, tut, I am disappointed in anti-marriage activist Judy Romea.

Haha I checked out the website for that girl's hate group quote:The Stanford Anscombe Society (SAS) is a student group that promotes discussion regarding the roles of the family, marriage, and sexual integrity in the lives of Stanford students both now and after graduation. SAS is neither religiously nor politically affiliated, instead basing our positions on human principles. We hold that the family is the key unit of a stable society, and we define the family as one man and one woman bound together by marriage, along with any children that they might have. SAS defines marriage as a union, until death, between one man and one woman. We promote the idea that sexual integrity is necessary for this family unit to be successful.

Found this in GBS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ6bUfOVf1g It's from Answers in Genesis so I assume you're meant to support the creationist dad, but from the trailer he just seems like an evangelical jerk who has no idea what he's talking about compared to the guy who actually researches and teaches evolution for a living.

You are exceptional and deserve success and wealth, otherwise God would've chosen a different shovel. Your employees deserve minimum wage, and deserve to be abused and treated like poo poo. Otherwise, God would not have hired them to work in His business. I am not saying that these people necessarily treat their employees like poo poo, only that it's okay if they do, because God.

What they are basically asking for is freedom from criticism, which is already granted liberally to anyone who doesn't open their mouths in public. The persecution they seek relief from is the feeling of fear they feel before spouting their insane ideas, because they know that every time they do it in mixed company, they get ostracized. It would also be especially great if companies would defy the profit motive and cease to hide the bigotry of its management from the public. They demand three rather significant things, that are granted to pretty much no one under any circumstances. These expectations could come only from a privileged group.

I've gotten to the point where I can barely watch more than 10 minutes of anything about climate change before I start to want to flay my own skin and strangle the person talking about it. As a scientist watching journalists pontificate about "why does the climate change study think it's the last word on climate change. You don't see people saying 'well this Is the end point of microbiology' haha isn't this silly!" NO ONE FUCKINGSAIDTHAT THATS NOT HOW ANY OF THIS WORKS. YOU PEOPLE ARE LITERALLY CAPTAIN PLANET VILLAINS NOW. e: Bill Nye is the closest thing I can consider as a martyr on this by subjecting himself to the endless waves of madness that erupt towards him in the hopes that he gets through to some people. Watching Sippy Cupp try and catch him with a pointless gotcha by asking "well cows produce the most greenhouse gases should we all be vegetarians? Call them cowards and tell them that it's the rhetorical equivalent of using a little girl as a human shield. You're not going to change their mind or convince them they're in the wrong, but you can at least do something that might get under their skin by challenging their manhood. It helps that it's a completely accurate comparison.

Since Nye is an advocate for a bunch of other science and education-related issues, I assumed she was thinking he'd back off and give a politician style non-committal answer (e.g. "Uh, well, I didn't say it was the most important but for many people...").

Bill Nye is an effective advocate because he's spent his entire adult life in the media, S.E. Cupp should know better than to play that kind of game with a guy who was talking about science on television when she was still wearing pigtails.

I've figured that since most of those types are all about "hating whiners" and "not being a pussy", mocking them for being precisely that should at least shut them up for a while. Trying to do anything more dignified is really just a waste of time and effort on your part. Also, with regards to global warming and other sciency subjects, I recommend people watch the documentary A Flock of Dodos. It's about the evolution/"intelligent design" debate, but it goes a bit into why scientists are pretty terrible when it comes to fighting the anti-science crowd. It's because they don't have a pr firms to help promote their findings while countering whatever anti-science is trying to say and are pretty much incapable of filling the role themselves
