I want you to be so right! I have been working on story lines for exalted and just holding out till 3rd Edition to use them. Of course, things may change with the canon.

Part 3 of Playtesting (Mental charms) has not been released yet. And as far as I can remember there have not been any sample evocations released, though I could be wrong on this front.

I don't really know much about the exact time frame it takes to release material once it has been finished, but I would be surprised if Ex3 was released before July and maybe even August at the current pace.

Edit: To add a little more content to this post, according to Mørke's latest GoFundMe update he is feeling better and the entire charm set is nearly complete bar Craft.

I cut War mainly because I didn't want to deal with a mass combat system when I was writing the hack, and because I felt like Brawl, Melee, and Ranged were the most important distinctions for fighty Excellencies.

Moving Medicine to Eclipse was for a few reasons. They needed a third Excellency since Bureaucracy and Socialize collapse into Negotiation while Ride and Sail collapse into Travel. Linguistics never really felt broad enough to be a whole Excellency on its own, so its Charms got folded into other Excellencies.

Meanwhile, Twilight had four really good Excellencies in the form of Occult, Medicine, Investigation and Making. None of those really collapsed down in a way I liked, so after thinking about it for a while I decided that "wandering physician" was a strong enough concept that it warranted giving Medicine to the Eclipse.

That's a description of when you can apply your Excellency dice to a roll. Large groups and organizations in Cortex+ are handled just like characters, so basically any Charm can be used on anything from one dude yo a mob of dudes to a Guild branch office. Likewise, you can use any Charm that fits on any action that includes your Excellency, so most of them can apply to large scale criminal enterprises.

Hmm... I kinda like merging Crime and Stealth, but I was intentionally avoiding having Socialize and Bureaucracy as separate Excellencies. Because of how the system handles organizations and crowds, I don't want two Charmsets that do basically the same thing, just against individuals vs. against groups. Especially with paring down the Excellencies to three per Caste, it feels redundant.

Giving Nights Investigation makes them even more the Batman Suns, which I'm not opposed to. On the other hand, taking it away from Twilights kinda pigeonholes them more as the wizard Caste, which I'm not as sure I like, and giving them back Medicine returns us to the problem of Eclipses only having two Excellencies--and that's not even getting into how a change in Excellency spreads ripples out to the Terrestrials and the Sidereals. :)

Hummm, I'm going to make this same warning closer to the book dropping, but I will say it would be *highly* advantageous for any players of 1e or 2e to read the book when 3e drops, make some basic characters, and play them against each other before declaring something is broken/weird/ruined forever. Just from my own experience, the 2e rules and ways of thinking are like tar on the brain. They seep into every crevice of awareness around the game.

Since they're from a white wolf forums poster they should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's still pretty encouraging w/r/t combat being usable. The bit about the mechanics not really being like 1e/2e/Storyteller-in-general at all is interesting, I'm assuming he's referring to more advanced mechanics than the "assemble a dice pool based on your points in a stat + skill" bare metal stuff.

That sounds like good feedback. The game should be smooth for new players to pick up, and combat and social stuff both should be completely different from 2e to the point where 2e strategies make no sense, or only make sense for completely different reasons. The whole time I have been hoping the new Exalted is not too mechanically similar to 2E or the 1E nostalgia edition. But, at this point, I have heard quite a lot from playtesters and just want to see and try out the system myself.

I should have said fast action I guess, I just mean games that emulate hand to hand combat or more 'fluid' weapon combat to simulate martial arts and action anime.

Thanks for the cross-post comments! I don't browse the WW forums so this is indeed uplifting news. I do hope a PDF comes out in July as unlikely as it is. I am very excited about this, can't wait for all the forum games that will pop up too. We'll need a new Trad sub section for all the Exalted games.

Wuxia Fantasy is a genre that doesn't get enough love in rpgs. As far as I know, the only published games are Qin (which is low fantasy), Legends of the Wulin, Tianxia (FATE core based), Exalted and maybe Feng Shui.

For all it's flaws, I think Asura's Wrath is as close as it gets to Exalted in vidjagame form as it gets.

I ain't got no kickstarter survey, just a bunch of horseshit on Holden's facebook saying how crafting's allegedly fun now and he wants to make a cool guy who crafts and fixes poo poo through application of mechanical engineering and basic programming, like this drat game wasn't already ninety percent voxel slingers in the main when it comes to the tabletop and online gaming ecologies! :mad: Maybe next it'll be an open-world zombie sim, you chucklefucks! Perhaps you can integrate a roguelike procedural generator and some hats!

It's a long running irritation of mine, and one that I am not sure how much is "playerbase" and how much is "the rule set." I was annoyed in 2E how it felt like "Twilight" stuff got the lion's share of creative attention. Granting that "artifacts" and "spells" are things which it is easy and useful to create quantified lists compared to "military tactics," "religious and social movements," and "diplomacy," it was irritating how they seemed to get all the Real Ultimate Power poo poo, to the point where it seemed like the purpose of all the other caste abilities etc. were to screen and support -- the Twilight!! Caster supremacy once you scratch it with your thumbnail.

This is not to say that "artifact guy" or "sorcery guy" are bad concepts, but I personally would be a lot more enthused if Holden was like "I was just playing with the diplomacy model and OH MAN IT'S COMPLETELY AWESOME. I just started a civil war in a Malfean cityscape just by chatting with Mnemon's blood ape while she went to take a piss." That would be new and different (and would get me far more curious).

We actually don't want a system where you can easily get lolrandom results like starting a civil war in Malfeas by chatting with a blood ape for half an hour. We had that in 2e, where you could rewrite a culture by spending any two half-hour periods over the course of a year by speaking to anyone in that culture, and the result was, uh, dumb. And seriously contributed to that whole late 2e vibe of "The details of the mortal cultures of Creation are unimportant because it's all going to scatter like chaff in the face of Exalted influence anyway, so let's talk about Yozis and supernatural weirdness because at least material about that isn't just wasted wordcount that'll be rendered obsolete the first time one of the players uses Taboo-Inflicting Diatribe."

This is completely unrelated to Holden and John being super-excited about a fun Craft system. That mostly comes from... well, as I said on Facebook myself, I remember the Skype conversation we all had where we tried to work out how to handle Crafts. And one of us said "Well, okay, what games have fun crafting systems?" And then the rest of us when "Um, there's... no, wait, how about... gently caress. There are no fun crafting systems, are there?"

Which is a shame, because I loving love crafting. One of the best parts of tabletop fun - for me - is when someone stabs Ye Olde Badde Guye through the middle and I get to go "gently caress Yes, I made the sword that did that, that is awesome."

The only good ones I've seen are ones that handwave it, like most superhero games. "I spend a point and have the thingy I need." or "I make a skill roll, get X effect I can blow during the next scene".

Most of the unfun quality of Crafting systems comes from the time dilemma, where they almost invariably involve a character slaving over a forge for two days or two months or two years while the other characters get to do more interesting things. I don't expect Exalted 3e to fix that, but it always has the issue of either A) you pursue plots swiftly, in which case Builds The Things doesn't get to do much with her Craft charms, or B) the GM lets the plots halt so Builds The Things can have the year-long build session she needs just to make a 2-dot Manse for her Circle.

The solution in my Exalted game was to have the PCs just hire an NPC crafter instead, who could sit at their hometown and refurbish the airship and manse and things like that instead of having a PC spend the time necessary to make those things go. They still needed to support the infrastructure and alliances necessary to make things happen, but nobody had to slave over a hot forge while the rest of the PCs sword-fought Fair Folk on a boat riding down a giant waterfall.
