My favorite part of the interview was when she referred to scientists bullying people to their side of the debate.

If you show someone evidence for something and say "Hey, look at this! This poo poo is important!" and they just put their hands over their ears, it's not bullying to want to pry their arms off and say "NO. This poo poo is important. Pay attention!"

Bill is a patient man, I would of wanted to strangle someone during that.

Also loved the "I'm not a denier. Buuuuuuut, I deny everything you just said."

Conservative ideology in general is all about trying to own victimhood despite being the ruling classes. Look at just about everything they complain about and it gets down to them being "oppressed" by someone or something, be it rich assholes comparing themselves to slaves, religious extremists saying that gays marrying affects them, abortion doctors pre-murdering the heroes of the future, businessmen being harassed by environmentalists when they just want to employ people, and racists being victims or hate crimes and being denied their freedom of speech. Literally everything they do is get up on the cross to claim oppression when really it's the freedom to oppress is what they want while also greedily wanting their victims to not be able to so much as complain about it.

Sure why not. There's not really any single good burn on that thinking because it's a completely illogical, hypocritical mindset that's there to shield them from thinking about it. If they cared about having a consistent set of values or an actual defensible policy stance beyond "gently caress these gay people" they would've already had to ask themselves why their religious beliefs and rules apply to two consenting adults who don't subscribe to them.

As I was trying to scrape my brain for a concise way of explaining it that came up for me too. If they're the type who thinks good christian white folk are being overrun by the horde ask them whether or not they want other people's heathen religious rules applied to their FREEDOMS based on not much more than "Because that's what Muslim God said" or "That's how it's supposed to be" or "That's how it's always been". Which is not so much an argument than a whiny complaint that America is a free country. gently caress it, just ask why they hate America and freedom, why do they want Sharia law in America?

Honestly, Bill Nye is basically the best person to explain climate change, since almost everyone under 30 remembers watching "Bill Nye the Science Guy" in school or on TV. Nye has the advantage of popularity, and he is definitely using it, whether it's debating against S.E. Cupp on climate change, calling out truth is in the middle bullshit, or going against Ken Ham in a creationist "debate". For that last one, you "win" a creationist debate by being the better speaker/presenter and being more charismatic, and the consensus is that Nye's presentation was a hell of a lot better than Ham's was. Nye is also really good at explaining science to kids, which is essentially what he was doing in that debate.:v:

Also, CNN just straight-up calls him "The Science Guy".:allears:

I would suspect someone who's actually evil like the cast of ex-ciggarette defenders who coincidentally popped up to muddy the waters on GW/CC would be better informed and ready to debate. Cupp is just treating the issue like any other GO TEAM GOP issue and assumed Bill Nye was doing the same thing, when in fact he's not a piece of poo poo and has his own convictions on top of actual knowledge. LOL at you and your mom doubling up on your dad.

One of the key appeals of shows like Limbaugh's is the way he leads listeners through these arguments with straw-liberals that he (and, by proxy, his listeners) always win. A lot of times his listeners try to take Rush's arguments out for a spin in conversations and gatherings (usually inappropriately, like at a family barbeque or kids' soccer match or something), and when they try that poo poo on a liberal who is familiar with Limbaugh-style arguments and who can parry their smart-sounding but actually dumb arguments, they tend to lose their poo poo spectacularly and hilariously.
