Vinyl pre-orders for the new Jeff Rosenstock side project Antarctigo Vespucci are available on Really Records. Apparently the digital version is available Tuesday. You can listen to the track "I'm Giving Up On U2" here. Really catchy pop punk.

Well, most of the Apple Stomp 2 lineup is posted:

Stubborn All-Stars
Big D and the Kids Table w/ Marc Flynn back singing for Apple Stomp (so OLD BigD songs!!)
Five Iron Frenzy
Slow Gherkin
The Toasters
Jiker
Dan P and The Bricks
The Allstonians
Johnny Too Bad and the Strikeouts
Hub City Stompers
I Voted for Kodos w/ Jay Tea on keys!
King Django
High School Football Heroes
Sammy Kay and The Fast Four
Dan Potthast
Vic Ruggiero

Slow Gherkin on the East Coast! I'm probably going to this. Of course, Saturday conflicts with Menzingers tickets I bought before this was announced, but maybe all the bands I want to see most will play on Sunday.

This year's lineup is pretty awesome. Seeing Slow Gherkin again will be amazing, and IV4K is just icing. Last time I saw them was some bar in Philly with maybe five other people. I may not be in town for Saturday though, so I'm really hoping for a heavy Sunday show.

Hah, at the reunion show IV4K made it sound like a one-time thing but you could tell how badly they missed playing.

May 31 and June 1. The Irving Plaza website only lists two day tickets at the moment, for $55. I'm assuming 1 day would then fall around $30.

Streetlight has been the most painful band I've ever followed. MAYBE 2nd to Weezer, but in a different way. Streetlight's history has just been very slow and lots of waiting and sad stories. I hope there is a tell all blog someday.

Ugh, but it turns out that Friday is part of a no-travel week at work. I only live a few hours away so I could leave right after work, but...is it really worth it for only getting two days, plus maybe a little bit Friday night? It's annoying that I only have a 48 hour period to refund/transfer the ticket so I have to decide this right now.

hito posted:

A thousand times yes.

It's probably changed, but when I went (2012) Friday was a night-only thing, and it was just a separate concert at some venue elsewhere in Chicago with a mediocre lineup (Neon Trees, Offspring, a few others). Even if they changed it now and it's a full carnival day, there were like a dozen "secret shows (they're not that secret and IIRC the VIP tickets get you guaranteed access to all of them)" each night, with some awesome bands playing, so if you've got the stamina you could go non-stop from Friday night to Sunday to make up for the part of Friday you missed.

e: tbh I'd say this beats out Coachella or any other big festival as far as a huge variety of music going on. Look at these schedules for 2012. Keep in mind that most of the secret shows at night were bands not at the actual fest as well.

I was running back and forth between stages half the time, thank god Humboldt Park isn't very big. My personal attendance was 31 bands over the 3 days.

If I sound like I'm gushing, it's because it was one of the single greatest weekends of my life.

Thanks man, that's good to hear. I think I'll keep on with this. It has extra fun factor because I don't even know who the second person is gonna be yet, I'm just sorta hanging on to a ticket and seeing where life will take me. That adventure should be fun even if I miss Friday.

They announce them around a month before the festival AFAIK. I believe you can buy tickets to them, but if you have a VIP ticket you can get into any of them for free. I dunno why I keep calling them secret shows, the website refers to them as after parties.
