King of Solomon posted:I'm starting to get really frustrated by the BoB Arena. Matches never take too long to find, but losing is loving harsh. Not only does it count against my covenant progress (I don't care too much about that, but it's stupid), but I don't get an orb, meaning I've basically wasted my time. Plus, the people in the arena are actually occasionally pretty good at PvP or have phantom range like crazy (the worst was when I got hit by a greatsword combo from what seemed like triple its range), making the duels basically impossible. I strongly suspect that people are CE'ing themselves the red orbs at this point. Hell, you can do it even with VAC on and not get nabbed for it as long as you are offline. It sucks because I can't figure out why any game dev would design a system in such a way.

I didn't know combustion had 360 degree tracking. I guess I should have used it more often. Also I don't know people complain dex weapons are weak when twinblades exist; a single combo has one shot me every single time on two characters. e: Haha the guard break counterattack for a caestus is just a haymaker. I can't even find a CE for the PC. I searched for one and found a bunch of 360 ones but none for the PC, and I didn't really feel like digging through shady sites full of hackers. Not gonna risk poking around those places just for some red eye orbs. Speaking of invasions, I just had a pretty great one. I invade the world of 'TheDiddler' in Hunstman's Copse. He's being escorted by white phantom 'Kill la Jill', and both of them are sporting greatswords. They're fighting the two undead by the start of the level, so I apply both of my buffs and charge in, trying to kill the host while they still have their hands full. I nearly succeed, but Kill la Jill starts whacking me in the back of the head with a club. Not sure where his greatsword went, Diddler chugs estus back to full, so I have to make a strategic retreat to heal. They try to pursue me across the bridge, drawing the attention of the sickle fatty. Again I nearly kill the host, but Kill la Jill saves the day with his club again. Fatty gets gutted and now I'm at a disadvantage again. I back off but they don't follow. I look back and see that Kill la Jill is at half health. He evidently has no healing whatsoever. Meanwhile the host his disguised himself as a totally inconspicuous torch, and they're obviously trying to bait me. I respond by shoving a lightning bolt into the host, and now they come charging after me. I manage to vanquish Kill la Jill, but Diddler escapes again. To make matters worse I have low health and no healing left. I move in to try and secure the kill, but he's gone. A little later I realize he's run all the way back to the loving bonfire to summon a sunbro to protect him. Oh, and Kill la Jill is back. Well against 3 players with almost no health, the odds are next to impossible. One hit and I'm dead. I withdraw to where the 4 torturers are, but even with their help I can't fight them. All I can do is channel lightning at them from across the path while they fight. I actually manage to vanquish Kill la Jill a second time doing this. The other two are at full though, and the only obstacle between them and the boss is me. In a desperate gambit I try to lure them onto the rope bridge, hoping I can knock them off with force spam. Sunbro chucks a sunlight spear, and I gently caress up the dodge and go tumbling off. But I won anyways. I have no idea why but the host tried to roll after me but instead went off the bridge a second before I did. He died from the fall first, so it counted as a victory for me, albeit in the dumbest way possible. I'll take it though.

If you're going all out with dodging I personally would just go with what looks nice, when you're dealing with light armour the difference is so negligible, if you get hit you're pretty boned anyway, go for the prettiest and lightest.

The VAC ban stuff usually gets blown out of proportion, and if people were getting banned just for using CE to give themselves some items there would probably be a whole lot of noise about it. I've run into a couple of invaders that either had their health locked at max, gave themselves 999999999 HP, or had a script that would refill their health instantly with (presumably) a button press. If those dudes are running around and playing, you're probably ok giving yourself some items.

I just noticed there's no boss tails to harvest in this game. You can cut the tails off of the Scorpion Queen boss but you don't actually get one as a weapon and no one else drops tails either. That was sort of fun in Dark Souls. Edit: I have a feeling all this VAC stuff is blown way out of proportion. I've been using a hex editor to bump my SM down to reasonable levels on my oldest character since the game was released and haven't had any issues. I think its unlikely that From actually gives to many shits about cheaters in the game; they certainly didn't do much about it in Dark Souls. Hmm, maybe I should actually make a dragon weapon build in 1...

Sniping the tail off of the Hellkite Dragon on the bridge in Undead Burg was a good way to set yourself up with an awesome weapon for the first half of the game. It didn't scale worth a drat though so you'd want to replace it eventually.

I wouldn't be surprised if Valve called up From Software and told them, "That's not what VAC is for, knock it off chuckle fucks."

The simple fact is, From chose not to use locally loaded VAC modules. Meaning that if there is any cheat detection, it is something like Cheatpunch for Rust. Except that this is From Software. I really doubt they have the know-how to make something like Cheatpunch. Maybe Valve is lending expertise now, who knows? Has there even been a single report of anyone getting banned for megamuling on consoles yet? That stuff would be dirt simple to detect, when you consider that eur0pa could make a tool in a day to do it. Tallgeese fucked around with this message at 23:55 on May 16, 2014 |

Does server side VAC support require any actual coding or is it simply a toggle in your developer steam account? It could have just been something they turned on by mistake without having any actual support built into the game.

DSauer posted:Does server side VAC support require any actual coding or is it simply a toggle in your developer steam account? It could have just been something they turned on by mistake without having any actual support built into the game. If you don't load usual VAC modules, you have to make your own anti-cheat which reports to Valve to issue a VAC ban. That's really why Dark Souls 2 VAC is most likely toothless at the moment: it depends entirely on the competency of the Dark Souls 2 PC server team. You know, the one that apparently misunderstood what VAC was so badly that they seemingly just implemented a server-side check for any VAC ban and called it a day. Not that I use KB+M for this, but don't you need an AHK script to fix issues with basic mouse clicking? That really doesn't signal well. The mouse controls for DS2 aren't that bad... unless you want to unbind doubleclick, because if you do your character will just stop to do nothing whenever you double click.
