Should I let the army cut my eyeballs open with a laser? On the one hand, I have enough experience with army healthcare to be cautious. On the other hand, it's free*!

Well, being blinded is an automatic 20 rating. On the other hand they will try to pull the "Not service connected" card. So its your call.

I envy you because I had to pay for my PRK; I could never navigate the paperwork to get it done as a reservist. Just be aware that you won't be doing poo poo for about five days. Your eyes will be too hosed up to even watch a movie, read a paper, browse the internet, etc. I almost went loving bananas until I decided 'gently caress it, I'll just get drunk'.

The first day afterward wasn't too bad, but once your cornea starts to heal it's loving awful for day 2 and day 3. I paid for it out of pocket, and I honestly think it was some of the best money I've spent.

My PRK was done by some military doc but was also being supervised by two civilian nurses, so it's probably whatever the hospital deems fit to let jam things into your eyeholes.

They've been doing it at Bragg for years, at this point it's almost an industrial assembly line type thing there. My one eye has started to decrease again after four years, but it's still one of the best decisions I ever made.

is the service requirement for corrective eye surgery at Womack still 8 months? I tried getting it before I got out when I had like 7 months left but APPARENTLY when the dude that made those decisions returned from Afghanistan a few months prior he arbitrarily decided to up the service requirement. I don't exactly remember the requirements but I know that I was still under the old ones but those fuckers changed it without telling anyone and DQ'd me. That's the sort of thing the post commander should blast out to the brigades/batts/companies and have everyone briefed on as a heads up considering the popularity of the procedure but, you know, gently caress soldiers.

Mike-o posted:gently caress CIF civilians I don't think I've ever seen someone get as mad as the guy who was PCSing with me that got turned away from CIF two times for his sleeping bag being "dirty" (it wasn't, gently caress CIF) and then the third time around someone next to him spilled a bottle of water on it and CIF was all "Welp can't take it not clean". I honestly believe the indecision of who he wanted to beat the ever loving poo poo out of more was the only thing that prevented either one from getting an rear end whooping.

The CIF civilian gkt extremely angry when I pulled the cover off of my ACH and handed it over instead of the helmet, directly in front of him and pointed out that my hand receipt said to only turn in the cover. That and all my poo poo being hosed up. I just handed in a xerox of my Purple Heart orders and said that it got hosed up in Iraq. I only got away with it because it was 2005 and a ton of dudes were pulling the same poo poo.

I bet is the real reason why people on post go on murdering sprees. CIF turn in.

When I left Germany when we were all running off like rats off a sinking ship, the CIF civvy was this German guy reading a porno mag. Walked in, said "I'm ETSing." he said "Ja, ja, over there, just drop it all, sign here." I did what he told me, he stamped my poo poo, I left the next day. When I left Hood the guy at CIF tried to be an rear end in a top hat, but I was given like 72 hours to clear post, so my 1SG told me drop that poo poo in the supply room, had the SMG sign a waiver, and off I went. When my wife left Hood, oh holy poo poo, they tried to make her buy new ammo pouches because hers were damaged, and poo poo like that. Took her 4 days to clear CIF. I was with her and some SFC lost his poo poo on the civvies. I mean flat out screaming at them.
