No, if you look he has persona cards and a meter for Kuro. His gimmick is probably that he has two types of strikers/assists/whatever you wanna call them.

I think it's more the fact that in the first arena not many characters had any major mechanics and now in the sequel they're bringing out everything they have into the new characters.

There are actually several characters that have mechanics their gameplan revolves around. Naoto has her death counter, Yukiko has fire boost and break which were how you sink in damage with her. Aegis' Orgia Mode and Bullets were an effective part of how she's meant to be played too. This not mentioning both Labrys' axe levels (And the bull for Slabrys) being a large part of how you play with them. There already existed a ton of silly mechanic based characters, really they're just adding two more. The other characters they've added are more traditional in how they play like basic rushdown (Sho) and zoning (Yukari). SHO also seems like a pretty simple character too and for all we know Adachi will be basic too, although the latter is just speculation for now. It's pretty much how the story progression in P4A went. Yu, Yosuke, Yukiko and Chie introduced you to the basic archetypes - Shoto, speedster, zoner, rushdown, and none of them (barring maybe Yosuke) are too difficult to play. Teddie and Kanji are the unpredictables and the grappler, who need a bit more skill to play well but are still pretty viable to mash. Then the P3 cast and Naoto have more complex mechanics, before finishing off with Labrys, Shadow Labrys and Elizabeth. Among the new cast, Yukari is supposedly easy to learn, Junpei and Ken look a bit more complex to pull off well, and Rise and the two Shos are a bit quirky but not too bad, so I'd say it's a nice learning curve.

I think they're retiring the character out of respect for the Japanese VA, who passed away. They just reuse voice clips from the games for the P3 movies and the P4 anime.

I'm just excited to see what the new Velvet Room is. After going from an elevator to an old Mercedes limo, I hope P5 has you and Margaret and whoever just bouncing through the void on pogo sticks (the most emancipated form of transport) or something. Also I am much more intimidated of Shadow Ken than I feel I should be. He is a teen, and will shank me.

If they're really commited to doning something new on P5 the best they could do is have completely new staff on the Velvet Room. Having any of the white hair family would serve as a constant reminder of the P3/P4 world. And how ATLUS' gonna milk it until the end of times the three are a lock to show on P5
