RE tolietchatte, I think it's just because she knows the husband (whatever his name is) is a forever, and constant horndog, and if she lets him in her book will get wet, and her wine will get knocked over, and she won't be able to finish her story.Tiggum posted:Is the depression cat French? I don't think Dick Tracy does any actual police work anymore, just waits in the car until a family member bumps into his current target. Still better than what Inspector Danger does, mind you. Oh god I just realized why Inspector Danger wears yellow.

Wanamingo posted:Lost Side of Suburbia Mm, I just think it hasn't really kicked in yet. Reynard is a classic French trickster, depicted as a fox. As with most trickster archetypes, such as the Coyote, Reynard is notorious for getting himself into trouble due to his curiosity and cunning, and then getting himself out via pure wiles. I think the implication here is that it's more of a hereditary title, or family thing, since Reynard is also usually male. The cockroach is Archy, who is a REALLY old reference on par with Krazy Kat, Everett True or Out Our Way. It would seem like a bit of a long shot considering the others we've seen are much more well known and have been depicted contemporarily, but if you need a typist for a group of vermin your options aren't exactly enormous. Toad Hall is the luxurious home of one Mr. Toad, the eccentric, dashing, adventurous, and extremely rich impetus character of The Wind in the Willows. You would be hard-pressed to find a better character to fill the role of the benefactor. Brer Rabbit is an African-American creation in the most literal sense, having developed from African slaves based on the African character Hare. He's usually a positive character but has very little restraint or morals, with his most famous appearance having him fistfight a baby, so he can be a villain. He has a LOT of parallels with Anansi, who we saw on the cover. No idea who his bird friend is though. This is cartoon as hell, incidentally, compared to the last story which was grounded comparatively strongly in reality and all its nasty bits. Should be interesting. I don't remember Geech having a kid in it.Wanamingo posted:Lost Side of Suburbia Lost Side doesn't feel like a kids' book. Heckbender's story was really static and dry. Alan Moore's League is downright pornographic in places, and even if a kid can figure out the premise borrowed for this, they're not going to get the references. I think this is more an adult book in the style of a kids' book, like Go the gently caress to Sleep. I'm kind of interested in this, but I can't place all the characters. Purple coated weasel thing? Danger Mouse? Reynard the Fox, okay. Anansi the Spider from West African folklore, and oddly enough, the ancestor of Br'er Rabbit. Toad of Toad Hall. Kotik the White Seal and Rikki Tikki Tavi from the Jungle Books. I assume that's Peter Rabbit. Everyone except Kotik in the photos, who's replaced by Moby Dick, and I still don't know who the mouse is. Some sort of Redwall reference?
