My disappointment in not getting #1 is fading after seeing more and more good things coming from Parker and Embiid. I've known how good those guys are for the entire season but between Embiid's back and Parker's defense I had fallen in love with Andrew Wiggins. Truth be told, I really think there are 3 superstars in this draft and the fact that the Sixers got into the top 3 (which in reality was only roughly a 50/50 chance) is reason to be happy enough. I can't wait until next month.

Tae posted:This is honestly my first time seeing him, wow that's definitely a reason to be a top 3 pick. That's a really smooth jumper. The fun thing watching him last year was seeing him improve week to week. Like if hosed while being double teamed, within a game or two he would be ready for it and make the right pass out of it. I seriously can't say I've seen a guy who clearly improved as quickly and noticeably as he did last year. For some real dunk porn, watch Embiid's high school mixtape here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0nxBm5TaI0 Compare his jumpshot/post motions from the draft workout vs. high school mixtape. Insane how much smoother his shot/moves are now, but the athleticism is the same. He throws down a ton of Dwight Howard throw-the-ball-in-from-above dunks.

Chad Ford tweeted out the measurements for Embiid/Wiggins/Parker: Embiid: 7' 1" in shoes, 7' 5.75" wingspan, 9' 5.5" standing reach. Wiggins: 6' 8.75" in shoes, 7' 0" wingspan, 8" 11" standing reach. Parker: 6' 9" in shoes, 6' 11.75" wingspan, 8' 11.5" standing reach. They must be wearing Cole Aldrich shoes because each of them is an inch or two taller than I expected. Just compare the Wiggins measurements to Randle from the combine: Randle: 6'7.75" w/o shoes, 6'9" w/ shoes, 7'0" wingspan, 8'9.5" standing reach. For further reference--Embiid's numbers are about the same as Brook Lopez's, a bit better than Tyson Chandler's, and a few inches (between wingspan/height) better than both Oden/Noah. For Wiggins, assuming Ford's numbers are correct, consider this: (EDIT) I'm a dummy and can't read the measurements (END EDIT) bearic fucked around with this message at 03:10 on May 26, 2014 |

Embiid in real shoes is probably closer to 7' than 7'1, but he's got a 7'6 wingspan and is now 265 of muscle, so that's insane. I've been an ardent Wiggins proponent but you almost can't pass up Embiid at #1 with those measurements (not to mention everything else he brings to the table). That length combined with the athleticism, it really does look like Embiid's practising on an 8 foot hoop. Totally different point: Anthony Bennett has consistently measured 6'7 in shoes but is billed by ESPN and a few other places at 6'8. I'm inclined to think he's 6'7, is there any proof he's taller than that? Poor Bennett. Cigar Aficionado fucked around with this message at 05:29 on May 26, 2014 |

Parker's workout video was a lot more impressive than Embiid's. Parker's jumper looks fantastic, too. Is he primarily a perimeter guy? Keep in mind I never watched Parker play before this video and I only saw Embiid play for about 5 minutes in some random Kansas game months and months ago

He was nominally a power forward but did most of his scoring from the perimeter, yeah. He started the college season off absolutely on fire from three, then cooled way down at the start of conference play, and then heated up a little bit towards the end of the year. He is also pretty good at catching the ball on the block and either facing up to blow by slower guys or punishing smaller guys with his post game. Scoring will probably not be an issue.

Would Embiid be able to work as a 4 if the team drafting him already had a traditional center? Because if the Cavs are dumb enough to give us their pick for Love I'm curious about if he'd be on their radar for the pick.

kiimo posted:The problem is that the workout video doesn't show defense which is Parker's weakness. He's an offensive machine. I'm not trying to get defensive at all over the videos but Embiid's shows him doing the Mikan drill, shooting a couple of very flat 15 footers, and basically just dunking beyond that. Parker's has a lot of dunking too but he shows a lot of quickness and shooting range, along with some good iso moves. I just don't really see what people are drooling over with that Embiid video. I'm not saying he's not any good or anything like that; I have almost nothing to go off of to make that claim. I just haven't seen the proof yet. He's quicker than most but he does look a bit mechanical, too

Was hoping they had a Wiggins video, he's been NBA-smooth since 17 and I want to see how much he's improved. They got this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1cxcDSzDB0 Good that he has a little range. A whole lot of it looks like things that should never be happening in an NBA game but that's impressive size. What's his deal, did he stagnate this season?

He actually got worse last year but he's always been pretty bad. He's a huge wuss who wants to stand around jacking up jumpers even though he is 7 feet tall and not especially great at shooting jumpers. He's averaged like 5 rebounds a game last year. His hype was all projection based on his size and ability to dribble at a vaguely competent level for someone that big, but he never actually gave any signs of living up to it.

Yes. They lack rim protection. Dieng looked really good over the last quarter of the season, though. It should mean they lose less close games next year, at least if he keeps it up.
