He said manga.

Five Star Stories is my favorite mecha manga. If only for the designs and huge scope of the universe.

Getter Robo is a great action manga.

If you like Gundam YAS' The Origin is incredible and has a great release, bar a few odd choices in dialog, from Vertical.

Break Blade has some great fights in it.

Appleseed is Shirow's best work even if GitS is his most recognized. Lots of detailed action and world building.

If you're into your older manga Yokoyama's Mars and Giant Robot are both great reads.

Fenrir posted:

I've posted here before, most of you know me. I have a problem. I've mostly run into the best anime has to offer and according to the few friends I have who watch this poo poo I'm pretty picky. I'm looking for more great stuff but it's not easy.

Even typing a list of things I've seen may not be the best route here. Let's just say I've watched at least a few of the top 10 of every year since ADTRW started doing the lists and the wiki got rolling.

I like real robot mecha, good drama, psychotic characters, general insanity, and I love cheesy poo poo as long as it's got some sort of base in at least a skewed reality (for example I loved TTGL but could not watch FLCL)

I know this is vague and I know it's dumb, but I just want more good poo poo to watch and my tastes seem to be too broad to ask for any certain thing, I just want something GOOD.

I'll answer any questions that can help me narrow things down, because I think that would really help.

e: I've seen all the classic good stuff, like Cowboy Bebop and Lain and Trigun and GitS and Steins'Gate and Tiger & Bunny and Death Note and Code Geass and blah blah blah. If it's really good and over 10 years old I've probably seen it. I've watched Legend of the Galactic Heroes. I don't know if anything will ever be that good but where do we go from here?

e2: To help a little as far as taste goes, my 3 favorite animes are Chihayafuru, Code Geass and Trigun. Macross Frontier is probably the closest 4th. I don't even know if that helps at all, though.

e3: VVV drat this is difficult. Seen Utena, and yes it was good.

For people just looking for general quality I pretty much always recommend The Twelve Kingdoms, which is my favorite anime ever. I think the best way to describe it is a very rich character development story with drama that's very personal to the characters, in a very detailed ancient-China-style fantasy setting. It's also one of those shows that people get recommended here and then consistently come back to re-recommend it to others. But if you've gone through the wiki lists you might have seen it.

Along the lines of your prefs though, you need to see the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime if you haven't already. I wish I had more suggestions, but it's hard when you've already seen all the good stuff.

There's also Cyber Blue. It's a Tetsuo Hara drawn manga set on a future colony world.

Been stuck at home sick for the past few days, been burning through some anime. There's actually not a whole lot of shows I've seen, so I'm a little bit out of my element when it comes to finding new ones.

Shows I have seen:
Attack on Titan
Kill la Kill
Gurren Lagann
Neon Genesis Evangelion (few episodes shy of completing)

There's a few episodes I've seen of Full Metal Alchemist, but not a whole lot. My favorite from the list is either Gurren Lagann or Kill la Kill, so anything like either of those would definitely be up my alley.

Both seasons are owned by Funimation in the States, so by logic both seasons should be up on Netflix, or at least the first season, but nope. Just the second season and the OVA that takes place between the two seasons.

Honestly the only thing about the Netflix audio options that really annoys me is that it defaults to Japanese, and Blu-Ray player is one of the 4 that doesn't support either subtitles or changing audio tracks.

Netflix does this really, intensely weird thing where they cycle what anime they stream at any given point. I think it's probably because of whatever deal they have with Funimation.
