He said manga. Five Star Stories is my favorite mecha manga. If only for the designs and huge scope of the universe. Getter Robo is a great action manga. If you like Gundam YAS' The Origin is incredible and has a great release, bar a few odd choices in dialog, from Vertical. Break Blade has some great fights in it. Appleseed is Shirow's best work even if GitS is his most recognized. Lots of detailed action and world building. If you're into your older manga Yokoyama's Mars and Giant Robot are both great reads. Wandering of Emanon is pretty good, but i'd avoid the sequel. Felt like the author kind of fell in love with his own character in a bad way.

I assume you mean Memories? "Wandering" seems to be the sequel.

Fenrir, while you're watching classics of the mecha genre: if you've not seen Space Runaway Ideon then you are doing yourself a disservice. Don't let yourself be put off by the children's toy style main robot; the legend goes that Tomino just outright lied to his financers about what sort of show he was making.

I've mostly run into the best anime has to offer and according to the few friends I have who watch this poo poo I'm pretty picky. I'm looking for more great stuff but it's not easy. For people just looking for general quality I pretty much always recommend The Twelve Kingdoms, which is my favorite anime ever. I think the best way to describe it is a very rich character development story with drama that's very personal to the characters, in a very detailed ancient-China-style fantasy setting. It's also one of those shows that people get recommended here and then consistently come back to re-recommend it to others. But if you've gone through the wiki lists you might have seen it. Along the lines of your prefs though, you need to see the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime if you haven't already. I wish I had more suggestions, but it's hard when you've already seen all the good stuff.

Princess Tutu scares me but I'll have to at least give it the 3-5 episode test. mossyfisk posted:Fenrir, while you're watching classics of the mecha genre: if you've not seen Space Runaway Ideon then you are doing yourself a disservice. The art in Appleseed is actually pretty amazing, especially if you're a fan of super elaborate backgrounds. It was done way before Shirow developed his current greasy porn style.

You might want to check out the New Savior Legend series of movies and OVAs. It's three movies and two OVAs that update the Fist of the North Star anime. They came out a few years ago and they're more Raoh focused. There's also Cyber Blue. It's a Tetsuo Hara drawn manga set on a future colony world.

Been stuck at home sick for the past few days, been burning through some anime. There's actually not a whole lot of shows I've seen, so I'm a little bit out of my element when it comes to finding new ones. Shows I have seen: Attack on Titan Kill la Kill Gurren Lagann Neon Genesis Evangelion (few episodes shy of completing) There's a few episodes I've seen of Full Metal Alchemist, but not a whole lot. My favorite from the list is either Gurren Lagann or Kill la Kill, so anything like either of those would definitely be up my alley.

Gunbuster is one of Gainax's very early works, the first thing that Anno directed and one of the best super robot shows out there. If you want sheer over the top robot action, go for that or check out Getter Robo Armageddon/New Getter Robo.

If you like Gurren Lagann and KLK for being over the top, you should give the Sengoku Basara anime a try too. Just watch the first episode at least, it's really something that should be experienced by everyone.

Both seasons are owned by Funimation in the States, so by logic both seasons should be up on Netflix, or at least the first season, but nope. Just the second season and the OVA that takes place between the two seasons. RyuujinBlueZ posted:Wait, what? Does Spice and Wolf only have the second season on Netflix? That's hilarious. Honestly the only thing about the Netflix audio options that really annoys me is that it defaults to Japanese, and Blu-Ray player is one of the 4 that doesn't support either subtitles or changing audio tracks.

So I have a conundrum. I have weird and possibly poor taste in anime, and have a hard time finding things id enjoy watching. I can spotlight my faves rather easily though. No 6 Kuroshitsuji Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Samurai Flamenco Un-go Mushi-shi And my guilty pleasures... Code Geass, Evangelion, and Valvrave. Is there anything out there for me? This is also the largest extent of what ive seen in the past few years. Ive skipped most major series that have been out there. Some of my fellow friends have run out of decent suggestions for me.

Houzuku no Reitetsu LOOKS AMAAZING. First 3 minutes of it hooked me. I know what im doing tomorrow. Makai Ouji looks like the better combination of Pandora Hearts and Black Butler. Im in. Tsuritama looks like something id watch too. Very cool looking slice of life.

Try Kino's Journey, Haibane Renmei and Mononoke. All fairly slow paced shows with varying degrees of weird supernatural poo poo happens that the characters have to deal with. Throw Seirei No Moribito and Shin Sekai Yori / From the New World in there if you want more action but with some similar themes.

It opens with some pretty goddamn awesome action and then basically pulls the drag chute on that. I still loved it, it's just not what the opening act led me to expect.

And it has Norio Wakamoto playing God.
