After I cash in, I'll post his site and let you guys pick him apart.

I need to start dumping commons and uncommons...

I picked up more the other day though.

LGS (which is more comic shop than games store, but they fun FNM so whatever) put out a 10p cards box...

I got 30 artifact lands in it, along with gitaxian probes and a grave pact. (a friend got an 6th ed Enlightened Tutor.)

jassi007, have you considered asking him what the gently caress is going on with his buylist? If he's been in the business for a while he must know that his rates are way above par and I want to know what his reasoning is for setting them like that.

Right after I bulk out on him, I'll be sure to ask. He hasn't engendered good will toward our local community, he basically was in business for 18 years because there was no viable alternative. The second one opened up people flocked there. The funny part is, another group of players appeared after all the competitive people left, essentially he gets a very casual crowd now. He is a store owner who gets literally angry if people shop elsewhere, has been known to charge different people different prices for things, keeps 1/2 of the free product he gets from Wizards for his personal collection, makes you buy 3 packs to play standard on Mondays, so its costs $12.xx to play f'ing standard, FNM was draft only, forever, despite us asking him to switch it up a bit for years. 6 months after the new store opens, has regular modern events etc, now all the sudden he hears there is demand for other formats.

This is basically why nobody feels bad taking advantage of this, we have a store we like and don't really care what happens to his store.

I pay different prices for things at my LGS, but that is because I am in sales and know that everything can be negotiated. Maybe people just know how to do that. :)

There is one LGS locally that ALWAYS feels like you are getting ripped off...he treats you well if you are trading (trades at like 80% or more), but if you go buy singles he charges TCG High End on a lot of stuff...

There is one LGS that I always go to for trade ins and singles. I'm friends with the main buyer, so he treats me well. I just tell him, "This is what I can get/buy for X online. What can you do for me?" 9 times out of 10, he will make the deal to get the business. It never hurts to ask for a better deal.

Yep. It's really weird to me because back home haggling is the rule while here in america it's more the exception. People don't even haggle for high-end stuff like cars. :psyduck: Haggling with trade-ins is how I can get board games at decent prices for wizard cards because the store knows, or I let them know, that the cards I'm trading in have a much higher demand than those board games that occupy more space and sit for a much longer amount of time. My LCS is currently buying everything from bulk to staples at scg buylist prices.

Would it be worth it at all to organize my common/uncommons and trade them in for store credit?

I really don't want to go through the trouble if the payout is gonna be lovely.

I figure its about 4000, 5000 at most, probably about 1000 lands.

That's about what, 25 dollars?

Remember that we still have another year of Thoughtsieze kicking around in Standard. I was behind on the thread but you should remember the last time Thoughtseize was in standard and like none of the control decks played it and there wasn't even a 4-cmc sweeper in one of those rotations.

Thoughtseize is generally more of a midrange/tempo card than a control card.

Granted the decks in that format were like, way more saturated in business spells.

The worst thing that happens when you ask for a discount is they say 'no' and you are in the same exact position you were before you asked. Always ask. It will be uncomfortable at first, but once you get used to it, it will be second nature and you will wonder how much money you could have saved before.

The singles that are really worth playing in other decks (the deck alone is not going to be competitive outside of FNM) will run you less than the $75.

If you want to play WW, you're well better off just buying the cards individually.

I understand you mean well, but there are a lot of things about how this person treats his customers that irritated a lot of them. He won't tell you how he distributes FTV's. Just won't say. You ask him is there a wait list, can I prepay, is it a raffle, he just hems and haws and refuses to answer the question. He also denies things like getting 2 sets of game day promos. I saw a 2nd mat for the Theros game day behind his counter and asked him about it, he ignored me. He is an advanced store and he only runs 1 fnm a week and gives out 4 promo's. Advanced stores get enough promo's to hand out for 2 FNM's. He has as far as everyone recalls kept 1/2 of his promo stuff for himself. The part I really don't understand is why Wizards doesn't do anything. Multiple people have reported him for the game day promo thing. They can clearly see through reporter that he has never scheduled two game days. Oh well, the store I go to know was started by people who had enough of this shops bullshit and they've been knocking it out of the park.

I went through it and pointed out the fetches and then offered to sell them for him, but he said it was too much effort to deal with so he said I could have the box if I gave him a bottle of rare beer from my cellar that he wanted. (we're also beer nerds) It wasn't a sleazy deal or anything.

Wow that is really shady...yea I'd stop giving that guy my business too. Let me know when he is going out of business so I can send you some money to get some of those Game Day Promos when the clearing house happens.

Or the new store should just take all their junk commons/uncommons and cycle them into the other store for a profit!

He's just funny. He will say "I will give you XX for that stereo system" and of course the floor guy will say he can't. Then my cousin hands him a business card and writes his cell phone on it. We weren't gone for more than 30 minutes and the store called and said they'd sell him the stereo for his price. He must have some kind of crazy salesman charm.

It seems to be Onslaught block and just Mirrodin set. So far there's a Flooded Strand, a Bloodstained Mire, a Wooded Foothills and a Goblin Piledriver.

That big picture site is pretty helpful. There's a Glimmervoid and an Oblivion Stone, but no Chrome Moxes. Doesn't appear to be a Stifle, but there's a Seedborn Muse and an Akroma, as well.
