It is a little awkward referring to women that you supposedly respect as "females," "girls" or "feminine fighters." I suppose a clearer way to put my point is that if any corporation or video game convention has the option of prioritizing "serious tournaments" or diversity, it is in their best interest to focus on the latter, particularly in an industry that is absolutely infamous for being hostile toward women.

I'm sorry, I don't comprehend the stigma, just trying to use as many synonyms as possible. I agree with you in the case of these laid back Nintendo exhibitions or conventions, so long as the distinction is clear. If Nintendo were to supposedly sponsor MLG or Evo, and give women preferential seeding so their bracket would be easier for the sake of diversity, that would be a problem. F. Yeah that chaingrabbing woman would have been cool but I'm guessing her smash nickname of Syphilis wouldn't quite work out. Also other dude don't say "females" when talking about people. Female or Male is only acceptable as an adjective for humans. Males and Females are wild animals. An adult female person is called a woman. An adult male person is a man.

Women, dude. The one word you've never used is women. I don't mind going 'chicks' or 'girls' or whatever I'm not gonna call you sexist for that, but it is kiiiiinda weird that you've usually literally every word possible for them but 'women.' Anyway, if you have to spend 20 posts repeating that you totally aren't sexist, for reals, buuuuut, maybe you actually are being kind of a shithead and should just shut up.

Like diversity is good and we can take that from that conversation but in the time I was asleep I came to the realization that we almost gave respect and consideration to the smash brothers game for children competitive fighting industry and for that I apologize and have already rewired in my brain to pay that respect towards a more worthy endeavor like the Coney Island hot dog eating competition on July 4th

In the scale of importance, there are of course a ton of things that are more important than women feeling more comfortable participating in video games, but it has so much more relevance and importance than "the integrity of Smash Brothers competitive play" that the latter is not worth considering.

For instance, respect. Do you not get how, in the context of 'these people shouldn't be here, or are not as good as the others', calling them 'girls' could come across disrespectful and rude? As if you're calling them immature, or worth less respect than the men. Endorph fucked around with this message at 17:33 on May 30, 2014 |

It's a little funny how the relative sizes of hitboxes, the advantages of the currently extinct wavebird and Waluigi poetry are all perfectly acceptable topics but the second that the participation of or depiction of women comes up, even when it is relevant to the most recent published news items, there is always a panicky crusade to change the subject as quickly as possible. I do hope they re-release something like a Wavebird and that it's affordable. It would do a lot to get the Melee crowd interested in the game.

Golden Goat posted:Sooooo the adapter thing is pretty cool. Does that mean we're getting a rerelease of Gamecube controllers too? Most likely, the controller they showed has a new Smash logo so it's probably a reissue. This is the best news of all because it will keep the Melee scene alive, even better if they release Melee on virtual console or an HD port. The two remaining questions are: will it lag? and will it work for Wii games? It's pretty much a given we're getting 3 Fire Emblem characters now that Ike's confirmed, right? I can't imagine them not giving Chrom/NotChrom a slot when Awakening was the best seller that series had and Star Fox had 3 last time when that series was deader than dead.

Yeah, definitely getting 3 FE characters. The only question I have is if we're getting a second FE stage, too, since 3 characters with only one stage is kind of weird. A stage based on the Tower or the Ruins from Sacred Stones would be pretty cool, you could have monsters run by and attack and poo poo.

TheKingofSprings posted:Was the stage from Brawl a map in an FE game, or was it just ~generic castle~? Well I can think of a couple battlefields from Awakening that would make awesome stages. At one point you fight on an active volcano, another fight is on the roots of a giant tree.

And given that yes, they're pretty much for Smash, branding them with the logo isn't too bad of an idea (it owns, actually, I really like that logo they went with). Edit: ^You mention those, and not about being on the back of a giant dragon ? I was thinking about places more from games not named Awakening, since Arena Ferox is the (pretty cool) place that represents that game and I don't see it needing more than one stage. TheKingofSprings posted:Was the stage from Brawl a map in an FE game, or was it just ~generic castle~? It was a generic castle, the designers thought just a multi part castle siege represented the series as a whole well, since apart from certain instances all the stages in Fire Emblem games are kinda interchangeable. At least until Awakening.

TheKingofSprings posted:Was the stage from Brawl a map in an FE game, or was it just ~generic castle~? As for iconic places? Absolutely. One place that comes to mind is The Dread Isle from FE7. About a fourth of the game takes place there, including the climax of the game, and it's got a magical gate that summons dragons and poo poo and everything. It'd make for a neat stage. And as mentioned, The Ruins/The Tower from FE8, which are infested with creepy monsters that'd make for fun stage hazards. They could even have Lyon (and his sweet-rear end cape ) appear as a boss hazard if they went that route. Not to mention, with Marth, Ike, an Awakening rep, and Lyn as an assist trophy, FE4/5 and FE8 are the only games without any gameplay representation in Smash. Speaking of though, I hadn't thought about it, but since Ike's still with us, in Radiant Dawn form, we'll hopefully get some tracks from RD as well as Awakening. 'Cause I really wanna Smash to some mix of The Devoted, don't let me down Sakurai. I don't really care what music they pick from Awakening, it's all fantastic, but I'd be surprised if they don't include Id Purpose.
