Legendary Enchantment Creature -- Bird God
The point of Atogs is they're cartoony looking. Like, to the point Lithatog had new art commissioned for it because the art meant for it was too serious. The original art ended up on Chainflinger and Lithatog went on to have one of the best Atog pieces.

:colbert:

The background's fine. It's like there's some sort of river delta behind him. One that might be polluted.

Yeah, that implication really is something. Hopefully the fall Duel deck helps add to that story.

Also forgot how great Xenagos's VA was, so thanks for that.

It's different but freaking out about is dumb. The art looks fine, it's just not nearly as cool as the original's. Oh well! Not like there's a million different alternate art versions of a thousand other cards.

If it sounded like I was freaking out then I need to work on my phrasing. I'm disappointed, but it's obviously not a big deal.

Because neo-nazis are racist, so a neo-nazi would be able to easily make art for it that fits. That question is easily answered, I wanna know why the card was made for a game about wizards and magic and poo poo like that.

I actually doubt that, I'm pretty sure Wizards owns the rights to every piece of art they've used since like 1998 or something.

What's confusing is the two glowing blue circles. Is Elspeth a flatfish now? They look similar to her sword, if that is supposed to be an implication?

The Returned mask that Elspeth has is made from the golden hilt of godsend, which is why it had those two circles. You can see the shattered blade and shaft at the base of the pillar the mask is on. Elspeth the Returned wears godsend.

gutterstorm asked:

So is Elspeth less dead on Theros than she would be on any other plane? I mean the underworld is a known location on the plane even to the mortal Therosians right? Shouldn't she be able to planeswalk right out without having to become a returned and lose her identity?

Like other mortals who die on Theros, she went to the Underworld, where she will reside for eternity unless she’s able to find some way out. She’s unable to planeswalk out of there, sort of in the same way she wasn’t able to planeswalk directly into Nyx — those realms have special properties that are not travel-able by planeswalking. Elspeth will have to find some other way out of the Underworld if she ever wants to planeswalk again someday.

"Doug Beyer posted:

So, wait, Elspeth is a Returned now? We're just going to completely annihilate her character?
Anonymous

No.

The conclusion of the Journey into Nyx stinger shows a mask with two gems, similar to the shape of Elspeth’s sword / Godsend weapon. So Elspeth’s Returned mask is indeed forged — but she isn’t wearing it. Escaping the Underworld as a Returned, at the cost of her identity, is an option that may be open to her, but obviously it’s not a very palatable one.

As we now conclude the Theros story, Elspeth retains her identity along with the other deceased in the Underworld, in the clutches of Erebos.

To be fair, Harold McNeill stopped being commissioned to do art right around the same time as that lady who turned out to be a prolific furry porn artist, so my guess is Wizards in its early stages didn't bother to do a lot of background research on its artists (and you can bet McNeill's Hitler-soaked internet gallery didn't exist in 1995). Once Magic got bigger they realized they could afford to/probably should hire someone to look into the backgrounds of their contractors and WHOOPS.

Welp, Pauper is no longer fun after 3 decks playing about 22 counters each, when I'm playing RUG Tron. I keep winning a game and losing to time because they do almost nothing all game except counter a spell or make me sacrifice the 1 guy I manage to land. Why would people play this format?

Went to the PTQ in Michigan yesterday. Went 3-4 and ended up in 49th place. My pool left a lot to be desired though I doubt I made the best deck possible for it. I had no duplicates in the one I ended up with and the only creature removal was an Excoriate and a Glare of Heresy. Most of wins came from using Harness by Force to steal their creatures and attacking with all of my creatures + their's.

It was a fun experience except for one match where the guy went on a rant about how he hated this format and I was playing a mouth breather style because the only creature I had out was a Hero of Iroas that I was pumping up.

The vendor that was there were great. Ended up picking up a near mint foil Eye of Ugin for $20.

The guy that owns the store I play at said he is going to start running Modern events so I ended up buying all I needed for a burn deck. Get to go pick up about half of it this morning and the rest should show up this week.

I would but my wife sorted my cards for me when I came home with last night. Here is what I had wrote in my notebook:

Deck: PTQ Sealed

//Lands
9 Mountain
8 Plains

//Spells
1 Ajani's Presence
1 Dragon Mantle
1 Excoriate
1 Fearsome Temper
1 Harness by Force
1 Oppressive Rays
1 Ordeal of Purphoros

//Creatures
1 Archetype of Courage
1 Evangel of Heliod
1 Everflame Eidolon
1 Fanatic of Mogis
1 Griffin Dreamfinder
1 Hero of Iroas
1 Leonin Snarecaster
1 Nyx-Fleece Ram
1 Nyxborn Shieldmate
1 Pensive Minotaur
1 Priest of Iroas
1 Rageblood Shaman
1 Reckless Reveler
1 Sigiled Skink
1 Traveling Philosopher
1 Wild Celebrants

//Sideboard
1 Flurry of Horns
1 Glare of Heresy

Display deck statistics

Most of my other colors had only 3-4 creatures. I really wanted to go white/black based on spells I had available in black but the only creatures were the deathtouch asp guy, Grey Merchant, and would have let me play Underworld Coinsmith.

Edit: I was keeping any hand that had 2 lands in both colors or 3-5 lands. A few matches I would end up with 1 mountain and 5 plains out somehow. I also got deck checked and I don't think I shuffled well enough after that because I drew 6 lands in a row after keeping a 3 land hand. This was my first sealed event though I've drafted a few times. It was a learning experience.
